The Society's role is to improve access to public registers and private muniments relating to Scotland by publishing volumes and calendars of such documents. We aim to publish a volume annually and provide a copy to each member. Publications are available for purchase to the general public. The Society is now making available e-books of volumes which are otherwise out of print.
Objectives: The objects of the Society shall be: 2.1 to promote the study and advance the knowledge and understanding of the historical records of Scotland by commissioning and editing works of appropriate significance. and 2.2 to publish such texts of original documents and of calendars and indices of public records and private muniments relating to Scotland as are deemed by the Council to be of particular value to historians and genealogists.
