## **Chairperson Report 2024/25**

Dear Members and Friends of the Carnoustie Scout Group,

What a fantastic year it has been for our group! We've had an incredible array of activities that have brought joy, learning, and adventure to our young people. From camping and singing to learning new skills like kayaking and fire-starting, we've built friendships and stepped out of our comfort zones together.

This year, our adventures took us to some amazing places. We slept in a museum, camped on the beach in Lanzarote, baked delicious cakes, delivered hundreds of Christmas cards, and fundraised thousands of pounds. Our annual Jamboree on the Trail (JOTT) walk was, as always, a fantastic family day out, complete with a BBQ at the end. Walking together towards a better future through scouting is truly inspiring.

I had the pleasure of attending my first Scout Gang Show this year, and what a fantastic show it was! I will certainly not miss any in the future. A huge well done to our young people who participated – your talent and enthusiasm were outstanding.

Congratulations to all our young people who took part in the Arbroath Music Festival at the Webster Memorial Theatre. What an amazing achievement!

Our Lanza Jam event saw a large group of young people and their families spending a long weekend camping on the Lanzarote beach, engaging in many fun activities. A huge thank you to all the leaders and volunteers who made this a memorable experience for our young people.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Hall Spring event and beach clean. It was a fantastic day supporting our group and the local environment. Well done to all the young people who achieved the awesome uniform badge – Collect the Whale.

As I step down from my role as Chair of the Carnoustie Scout Group, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported me in this role and as Group Secretary before that for almost six years. I wish all the best to the group's new chair; it's a fantastic group with dedicated and passionate volunteers, and it has been my privilege to be part of it.

Thank you all for a wonderful year.

Chairperson, Carnoustie Scout Goup

Camoustie Scout Group Report
2024125 has been an another extremely busy and active year for Camoustie Scout Group with all
our sections offering high quality and varied activities. skills. challenges. events and of course
residential experiences. It is great to see such a diverse range of activities provided by our
innovative leadership teams.
It is with great pride that I see the great number of chief scout challenges being presented at our
awards ceremony this year as a result of the determination and hard work by both our young
people and the leadership team.
Our numbers this year have decreased to around 140 young people and this is noticeable with
vacancies in both Squirrels and Beavers.
The Scout Group currently comprises the Squirrel Colonies running over 3 evenings on a Monday,
Wednesday and Thursday which includes our satellite at the Boyack Centre. 2 Beaver Colonies
meeting on a Monday and Tuesday, 2 Cub Packs meeting on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 2
Scout Troops on a Thursday and Friday and our Explorer Unit on a Friday. As we are able to offer a
wider range of outdoor activities especially camping.
My highlights from the past year has been the Ireland Adventure 24to the beautiful setting of
Crawfordsburn in County Down. We had 36 members ofthe group attend LanzaJam25 in
Lanzarote. We had Cubs, Scouts and Explorers in the Dundee Gang Show. Our Squirrels and
Beavers did well in the Arbroath Music Festivals.
All sections have been offered a selection of camps over the past year and it is great to see so
many of the Zodiac Awards presented this evening. All of this is only possible thanks to our team
of dedicated and committed volunteer leaders. section assistants and helpers. Thanks go to our
volunteer leaders who have stood down over the year - namely
from Beavers and StewartBisgrove from Explorers. Their commitment and time over the years is
appreciated by all.
We currently have the following leadership team - Squirrel Team - 10. Beaver Team - 3. Cub Team
4, Scout Team - 7 and Explorer Team 2 plus a further 17 section assistants. We continue to have
great support from parents willing to help out on occasion. As always, we are continually on the
lookout for anyone able and willing to help in whatever way particularly as part of the leadership
team. It's great to see so many leaders receiving their long service awards this year.
Thanks also goes to our group chair￿ ho has continued to oversee the Trustee
Board and is standing down this year. Special thanks goes to our treasure
Thanks
also to
ur very efficient group secretary who will also be standing down this year.
Thanks to
r coordinating the hall bookings. Thanks also go to our well organised
Scout Pos
ho successfully
achieved a huge increase in fundraising income this year and trialled other forms of income raising.

We continue to have a strong relationship with Monifieth Scout Group and this has continued both in the in our outdoor meetings with mutual use of leader’s talents. I am also Group Lead Volunteer for the Monifieth Scout Group at present so this ensure close working between the two groups. We have a full line programme lined up for the forthcoming summer.

Scouting in Carnoustie continues to be solid and we look forward to the many activities planned in the future. Speaking to the youth it is clear that they simply look forward to the residential experiences whether in the scout hall or at a camp site. We have a committed, talented and dedicated team of leaders suitably complimented by a hard working trustee board.

My personal thanks go to the Group Leadership team o or their support and encouragement during the year and their enthusiasm, commitment and drive to make things happen for the benefit of all the young people in the group. We are so lucky to have a diverse range of talents within the Group.

The future growth remains optimistic with a busy programme scheduled by all sections for the year ahead.

Scouts
Lanzarote 2025
At the start of the Easter Holidays some Scouts went to Lanzarote. We were going to
a camp called Lanzajam. After going on a bus. plane and another bus we finally got
there. I was excited about Paddleboarding and seeing the Komodo dragon at the
animal park.
I was sharing a tent with the other Beavers
In the middle of
the nigh• ut on his tonie box by mistake and it gave us all a fright. It was really
funny.
We all did different activities. On the first day I went kayaking around the island. I
shared a kayak with my dad and he had to do the most of the paddling. In the
afternoon I went paddleboarding and I think I'm getting much better at it!
and I climbed the mountain at Camp Lanzajam. The next day we went to the volcano
they cooked the chicken for the cafe over the volcano core. It took one hour to cook.
On the last day we went to Rancho Texas animal and water park. I hung out with

When we got back to the camp site we to quickly pack up our tent because there
was a huge storm coming. We moved to sleep in a hall. We had our closing
ceremony at the hall and l enjoyed dancing to all of the songs. I was wearing my
pyjamas with my Lanzajam neckie. I stayed up so late and was very tired when I got
home the next dayl
I had a great time at Lanzajam. My favourite bits were seeing the Komodo dragon
and spending time with my Scout friends that don't go to my Beavers. I made some
new friends and I loved the Lanzajam chant. I can't wait until the next camp.

My Experience at Blair Atholl - by Evelyn Bisgrove
Blair Atholl Jamborette, otherwise known as the Field of Dreams, is a two week long camp for
selected explorers in the heart of Scotland. with scouts having the opportunity for a four day camp
in the middle of the two weeks. There are so many activities it's impossible to try them all, but
there's something for everyone: from D&D, Imake, and crafts, all the way to River Rescue, Atholl
Experience, and High Ropes.
My favourite part of 81air Atholl was meeting new people from different cultures. Some came with
communication issues, some were completely different cultures, but all sharing the love for
adventure and scouting.
Those who know me may know me to be quiet or shy• however one thing I learned about myself is
that I can be outgoing. and confident, and that has since brought me a new self image.
I would recommend that everyone go to Blair Atholl because it truly is the best camp I've ever been
on, even if you are like me and maybe don't have the most self confidence, try it - you'll surprise
yourself once you get stuck in.

SEAVERS
Report 2024125
Like the rest of the Scout Group the Beaver Colonies have had a successful year taking part in lots
of outdoor activities as well as meetings in the hall. We have managed to remain outdoors as
much as possible and completed a wide variety of challenges, learned lots of new skills and taken
part in fun adventurous activities.
Our numbers have decreased this year to the lowest level for a long time with many of the older
ones moving on to Cubs. We have 15 beavers on a Monday and 12 on a Tuesday. Both Colonies
have run the same programme to achieve the same badges and all Beavers have the opportunity
to attend themany joint events as well as activities run by the Group.
Our key activities this year have been working on the various activity badges. We have worked on
the teamwork and international challenge badges we well as the individual challenges to allow
many of the Beavers to achieve their Bronze Chief Scout Challenge Award.
During the summer holidays we had a beach adventure in Carnoustie where the young leaders
showed everyone how to safely light and look after a fire.
At Christmas we attended the panto in the Camoustie High School Theatre and enjoyed fun
watching cartoons in the Dibble Tree Theatre on Christmas Eve.
In March we returned the Arbroath Festival trophy to Carnoustie for the Under 12 Singing Games
having lots of fun on the stage and increasing the confidence of everyone.
We took part in the Big Barrwood Camp in May and then in June took part in the Jorr walk
hiking from Broughty Ferry to the Boyack Centre in Monifieth on the sunnist day of the year. We
also attended the Group Family Camp at the Lochearnhead Scout Station. Beavers had the
opportunity to take part in paddleboarding at the Willowgate Activity Centre by Perth. We took
part on the Gala Day Float. We visited Newton Farm to help feed the lambs and care for the
animals. We had a visit from the local dentists to find out about caring for our teeth.
In Carnoustie we have benefitted from having a committed and resolute leadership team and this
is reflected in the face that we have been able to continue to offer beavers an amazing programme
of event. This has also included our young leader
talent, enthusiasm and as fantastic role models

**Since the last AGM, we have had a busy year. Three cubs moved up to Scouts, and two earned their Silver Chief Scout Award. We now have nine cubs who are registered and attend regularly.**

**The cubs have enjoyed working with the leadership team to decide the type of badges they want to work towards and have earned numerous badges over the past year which include; their personal challenge badge; their teamwork challenge badge; the chef; backwoods cooking and their DIY badges where they made a holder for a bird feeder. The cubs have had the opportunity to go sledging as a group in Dundee and go to on a number of camps throughout the year.**

**The cubs enjoy working as part of their sixes to earn points throughout the term for their six, where they were able to choose the theme and name of their six.**

**I would like to thank everyone who has helped with running Tuesday Cubs over the last year, especially the Leadership Team** ee **who come along every week taking time out of their busy schedule to take part, and ensure that the cubs can learn new skills and be able to attend each week.**

## ‘ **C’ Pack Cubs Annual Report 2024/25**

## Thursday Cubs Annual Report

Thursday Cubs have remained at consistently good numbers with the pack being almost at capacity throughout the year. We have completed many activity badges including Astronomer, Money Skills, Communicator & Scientist. These included a visit to the Museum on the Mound in Edinburgh where we also managed to squeeze in a quick visit to Edinburgh Castle, Mills Observatory in Dundee, exchanging postcards with a Cub Pack in Portsmouth and even making our own ice cream.

As part of our Money Skills & Community Impact badges the Cubs saved up money by helping family and friends around the home, they then prepared a weekly shop using a set budget from the money saved and off they went to the Co-op with their planned weekly shop and purchased food for the Royal Legion Food Bank in Carnoustie. The foodbank team were extremely grateful for the Cubs generous donation.

We took a night hike to Monifieth spotting constellations along the way and then we were rewarded with a bag of chips at the end. Later in the term we made the constellations we had spotted using STEM resources which were very cool!

In September we were extremely lucky to get selected to attend the Cubs Howling Camp at Fordell Firs in
Dunfermline along with almost 500 Cubs from all over Scotland. We are sure all the cubs who attended will
agree what a fantastic camp this was. Lots of activities on offer over the weekend including a fun fair. disco
and of course huge campfire. We are delighted we have been picked to attend again this yearl!
Due to popular demand we held our second (now annual!) Christmas Sleepover where everyone had great fun
eating Christmas treats, making Christmas crafts. playing Christmas themed games and watching a moviel
The money raised from this sleepover was donated to the Royal Legion Food Bank.
The Cubs enjoy trying new activities and this year was no exception we purchased a Pickleball set. however,
our new Tomahawk throwing set was an even bigger hit! We made wormeries, grew cress, cooked pancakes
on Trangia camping stoves. made bird feeders. drew Akela. visited the climbing wall, built new planters for
the scout hall and even saved Baloo!

## **Carnoustie Scout Group Report 2024/25** EXPLORERS

The Carnoustie Explorer Unit have had a busy year of adventurous activities, camps, challenges and learning and improving skills. Our membership is now sitting at 24 explorers which is great to see.

Our programme over the year has included developing the young people’s camping and survival skills as well as a lot of activities that included food.

We took part in JOTT with a hike from the Law in Dundee to Monifieth, Barrwood Summer Camp, kayaking at Willowgate, Cally Rally in Inverness, Carnoustie Panto and skiing and winter activities at Sub Zero National Camp at Auchengillan.

Most of our explorers are also young leaders supporting all other sections at the Group. 8 of our explorers attended the Blair Atholl Jamborette in the summer. a

Many of our Explorers also attended as a Unit to the LanzaJam25 jamborette in Lanzarote, Spain. One of the highlights was a visit to the Timanfaya volcano and a night hike along the coastal path with star gazing. The Jamborette had 17 nationalities in total and the Explorers met many new friends. The final evening saw the jamborette evacuated to a community centre due to a forecasted storm.

Thanks to ho has continued to provide inspiration and support as assistant leader LS has stood down as a leader after 10 years of volunteering. I would like to add my personal thanks to all his time, commitment and loyalty over the years. It really has been appreciated by all the explorers as well as their families.

## We welcome a who has joined the Explorer Leadership Team.

We look forward to many more national and international adventures in the coming year.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of 1[st] Carnoustie Scout Group**

## **Charity Number SC031744**

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025 which are set out attached.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities

Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.

It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters.

The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
