Achievements and performance
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the financial period |
As a result of financial pressure within West Lothian Council effort has been made to increase operating income and improve efficiency to allow future financial sustainability. Rental charges have increased, more groups have used the hall, and energy usage has reduced. Operating surplus has increased but more is still needed to meet the future demands of West Lothian Council. The hall is extensively used for: - after-school child care - Rainbows, Brownies, and Guides - local church worship and events - parent & toddler group - art group - pop-up café - community cinema The hall and grounds are used for other social and community events. Individuals and groups hire the hall for celebrations and meetings. More trustees were recruited at the 2024 AGM to ensure future sustainability and succession of the board. |
|---|---|
Financial review
| Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves Details of any deficit Donated facilities and services (if any) |
The board strives to maintain a positive cash flow in order to maintain a reserve for future commitments. West Lothian Council is currently reviewing provision of community centres and some of those services may be reduced. If that happens it is hoped that there are sufficient funds to ensure continued use of the facility. |

December 2007
Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of
Murieston Initiative SCIO
| report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 May 2025 which are set out on pages 1 to 11.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (a) to (c) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently’! do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner’s statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention [other than disclosed below*]
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
e to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
-
e to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations ;
have not been met, or
- to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
