Ther Autumn Concert in the Church with a James Bond Theme and the Christmas Concert was the usual success. May saw the second Tweed Valley Brass concert, with friends from Peebles Burgh Silver Band and combined the excellent Mills of Tweeddale exhibition. For this concert, the Future Band working with Peebles Burgh Youth Band in a joint performance.

The Borders Entertainment Contest was held in Innerleithen Memorial Hall and the Band enjoyed great support in carrying out the duties of host band. The Band was placed sixth in the competition.

In terms of fund-raising events included a Family Games Night in September; the Prosecco Afternoon Tea (December) and quiz night (April) the Coffee Morning (August). All were successful. The Silver Club continued to provide important income. We obtained grants from the SCOPS Trust towards the youth programme

St. Ronan’s continues to put youth development at the heart of the work.

The youth groups meet weekly and the players have been given opportunities to continue to develop their musical skills through these weekly lessons and ensemble playing. This summer saw the start of a new pBuzz group and an intake of older children on brass; all are making good progress. There have been some opportunities for the Future Band to play, particularly at the organisation’s various concerts.

The Future Band received a first prize at the Innerleithen Youth Brass Band Contest. The solo and ensemble players all acquitted themselves very well, with one player qualifying for the Scottish Finals and one of the Junior Ensembles becoming Scottish Champions with the other taking third place. The young players also turned out to help with the Round Table’s Santa Sleigh, earning a donation of £250. Two young members attended the NYBBS. Several took part in the biannual Borders Workshops which the Band subsidises for St. Ronan’s players.

A fourth Band Camp is organised for August.
