Objectives and Activities
Charitable Purposes
The purpose of the Fife Festival of Music is to advance the education of the public in the art of Music and all its branches by public performances and other related activities. and in particular by nolding or promoting annua! Festivals. incorporating both competitive and nancompetitive classes; presenting and promoting public performances, concerts and recitals; supporting and developing music making in the community, and encouraging people of all ages and abilities ta develop their musical talents to the full
Activities
Founded in 1981, the Fife Festival of Music exists to support and develop music making in the community. Whether a young musician in a school group or part of a community music ensemble. an adult musician, a teacher, a parent. an audience supporter and a willing donor, Fife Festival of Music has something to offer.
The Festival has two or three periods of activity during the calendar year: The pnncipal event takes place in January/February across locations in Fife. This is the largest and busiest part of the year with two weeks of vibrant music making, both competitive and non-competitive. ranging from instrumental. through vocal to choral, with solo, duet. ensemble and large group classes available. Participants are invited to use the Festival platforms to display their talents. This event is populated by people of all ages from Primary 1 aged pupils upwards and by school and community groups alike.
The second event usually in May aims to give younger schoo! age musicians a Festival
2
experience through group, non-competitive participation. This event has not taken place since before the Pandemic. The third event generally held in November brings the increasingly popular Family Fundays of Music to a differant location in Fife each year.
Achievements and Performance
Fife Festival of Music exists to prornote and develop music making in the local community through performance and education, and as such continues to engage with the full range of people's ages, genres of music and al! communities, musical and physical.
The Family Funday of Music Making in November 2024. was held in Kirkcaldy High School. This was again well attended by members of the community giving families and in particular young children a chance to participate in musical activities.
The main January/February event again took place in Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline. After the successful introduction of entry fees online in 2023 this was continued for 2024. There were many exciting performances on platforms — at the Vine Centre. Dunfermiine, and in Kirkcaldy at the Adam Smith Theatre. There was also a welcome return of entrants to the Organ class which took place in the Old Kirk, Kirkcaldy using the magnificent Gern organ As ever, primary and secondary schools brought their wellrehearsed music to perform to audiences of parents/carers, friends and interested members of the community. There were also many solo instrumental and vocal performances from all ages. A continuing major feature of the Festival is the community element: which includes adult choirs, large ensembles and other smaller ones, proving that music encompasses all and is a vital part of life for so many.
The final event, on 7th February, was the Young Musician 2025 final, the competitors comprising the winners of the Open solo instrumental classes
Once again active encouragement was raised within the community through engaging with volunteers. schools, public services, businesses, individuals and families and giving the opportunity to participate fully together and be involved in participation within the Festival programme.
In summary. the outcomes of the programme of events.-:
-
provided an extended opportunity in the use of knowledge, skills improvement. expenences and competencies to facilitate personal development as well as employability by participating in organising and running the Festival programme.
-
- showcased a programme of musical events and local music talent that added value, improved quality and raised the profile of music making in Fife.
Financial Review
There was a deficit for the year of £7, 399.75 (deficit 2024 £2.588.16). Total receipts for the year were £27,405.03 compared to £32.115.60 in the previous year. a decrease of £4.71058 This was partly due to fewer donations and no grants were applied for Expenditure in the current year totalled £34,804.77, compared to £34.703.76 in the previous year, resulting in a small increase of £101.01. Due to the receipt of generous donations from other musical organisations in 2023/24, it was possible to again subsidise bus travel for some schools participating in the Festival.

Reserves Policy
The reserves consist entirely of the bank account where funds are retained towards Festival activities. The reserves policy is to retain a level of unrestricted funding that matches, at minimum. the general level of specific grant received. to fund the Festival for a further year if the grant income is withdrawn. Reckonable reserves were £30,862.28 at the year end which are well within the target range.
Plans for Future Period
The Management Committee works hard to continue and develop the Festival and meet the demands in the community. Efforts continue to generate income and attract funding from a variety of sources, whilst managing costs, that provides sustainability of the Fife Festival of Music into the future.
