Recruitment and appointment of Trustees
Recruitment and appointment of trustees is on a voluntary basis.
Governing document
Golspie Heritage Society is an unincorporated association and the purposes and administration arrangements are set out in our constitution.
Charitable purposes
The overall purpose of the Society is the advancement and education of local knowledge and history in our community and to stimulate interest in this area by providing regular meetings and exhibiting materials together with the sharing of materials and knowledge within the community and with other groups and individuals.
Activities and achievements
Monthly meetings are held with guest speakers giving talks on history relevant to the area. The Society’s premises are open on Tuesday mornings throughout the year for people to drop in and chat. They are encouraged to share memories of Golspie, some of which are recorded. Old photos are looked through and names often added.
Volunteers attend on Monday mornings and are currently working through materials and artefacts, organising them and cataloguing them. This has increased awareness of the lack of storage space. Plans have been drawn up to build a new store and grant applications have been made to local windfarm community benefit funds. Confirmation was received on 20.03.2026 that the first one has been successful.
Other volunteers are working to complete the Millennium Project. Books with a photo of every house in the parish with a space opposite for the occupier to record something about the family that lived there, were begun at the millennium. Not all the spaces were completed at the time. It is hoped most spaces will now be completed retrospectively.
The Society’s volunteer Researcher has been working on a ‘People At School Project’. Their collection of over 300 class photos from village schools, dating back to the early 1900s, has been collated into 3 binders. Names have been added to many and a database created. The Society will continue to add to this fascinating collection.

Golspie Heritage Society Scottish Registered Charity No. SCO30553 Independent Examiner's Report
Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Golspie Heritage Society registered charity number SC030553.
I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2026, set out on the following pages.
Respective responsibilities of trustee and examiner
The charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanation from the Trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
Independent examiner's statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention
-
1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements :
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
have not been met, or
- 2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
