Ayrshire Rivers Trust (ART) is a conservation charity, centred in Ayrshire. Founded in 2000, its original aim is the conservation of wild salmon and sea trout stocks in Ayrshire's rivers. ART's purpose has evolved to encompass the conservation of freshwater ecosystems throughout Ayrshire using all available resources through collaboration, education and investment. The Trust has created a five year Strategic Plan and this plan recognises that the Trust has moved from simply the conservation of wild salmon and sea trout and, although these keystone species remain as vital indicators of the health of our rivers and burns, the best chance of their survival is through conservation measures of the entire aquatic ecosystem, the riparian zone and through landscape scale approaches.
Objectives: 1 . Promoting and undertaking research into and study of the freshwater fishery resources (including salmon, sea trout and brown trout) and associated habitat in the area of Ayrshire, including the areas covered by the District Salmon Fishery Boards of the Rivers Ayr, Doon, Girvan and Stinchar, and the catchment areas of the Rivers Irvine and Garnock, and for the benefit of all persons interested in such fishery resources and associated habitats 2. Advancing the education of all persons interested in such fishery resources and associated habitats by raising their awareness and understanding of the importance of such fish and fishery resources, habitats and their conservation 3. Such other purposes as are recognised by law to be exclusively charitable within the meaning of Section 505 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 or any Act amending or replacing the same and which relate to the conservation and management of such fish and fishery resources, water, water quality and environmental conservation as the Trustees may from time to time in their sole discretion select and that without prejudice to the foregoing generality and without in any way fettering their said discretion
