## **NORTH LEWIS WAR MEMORIALS** 

## **ANNUAL REPORT BY CHAIRPERSON** 

Welcome to all who have come along this evening to the AGM of the North Lewis War Memorials.  It is an honour and privilege of mine to present the Chairperson Annual Report. 

Memorial services were held in November 2025 in the customary way at both Cross and Borve. 

The Committee met as required throughout the year. 

The Committee’s main activity over the 2024-25 year was the general maintenance of both memorials at Cross and Borve. 

Mel who has worked very hard to maintain the ground around both memorails, in announcing his retrial from the task, on behalf of the committee, I wish to acknowledge and thank Mel for his help over many years and wish him well. I would also like to thank Duncan Mackinnon who ensures that the flags are flown at appropriate times at both memorials. 

On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank Comunn Eachdraidh Nis for their display of war memorabilia at their premises. It is important and imperative that through the act of remembrance we keep alive the flame of hope. The memorials are more than stone structures and inscription, they are testament to those who gave the ultimate sacrifce, who gave their lives,  and who fought for the freedom we enjoy today. It is our responsibility to honour their memory and ensure that their scarifice was not in vain and are never forgotten. 

Human history is marked by conflict and even at the present time we must remember all those who are suffering and dying in wars and conflicts throughout the world. Freedom, peace, and stability continue to be challenges for our world. 

One of the main tasks of the committee in the coming year is that since both memorials have been repaired,and that landscaping projects have taken place and the cleaning of the memorial panels has been completed to make sure for regular mainteance to take place so that the North Lewis war losses be remembered by future generations.
