Activities

'It carries out activities or services itself'

'the prevention or relief of poverty','the advancement of environmental protection or improvement','the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage'

Starter Packs Glasgow started in March 2000 as a charity that was designed to support people moving on from homelessness and into a new tenancy. A pack of essential household items would be delivered when the recipient was given the new keys to their new home. The packs were designed to help people settle in quickly, alleviate the financial burden of having to buy all these items at one time along with the stress that goes with it and help break the cycle of homelessness. In the last financial year we directly supported 1600 Households across our city (2400 people, 600 of whom were children). This year has seen the number of pack referrals rising again and demand on our service continues to grow.

Beneficiaries: 'No specific group, or for the benefit of the community'

Objectives: 4.1 To prevent or relieve the poverty, suffering and distress of anyone who has been homeless and/or in need by providing them with a starter pack of household goods upon moving in to a new tenancy. 4.2 To relieve those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. 4.3 To foster, promote and support the advancement of environmental aims through the recycling and re-use of household items and furniture rather than seeing these items sent to landfill.
