General maintenance and repairs was undertaken including a new boiler, heating servicing. Lift and Fire alarm serving. A survey and valuation of the building was undertaken for insurance purposes. This increased our Insurance Premiums adding to the ongoing cost of running the premises. Running costs also included electricity, oil for heating. The committee continue to make the premises presentable with the upkeep of flowerpots outside the ross institute and war memorial. We oversee the upkeep of the grounds and key areas of the village including the river walk. We saw an increase in hall bookings for community use with a variety of local clubs and events. Page **6** of **7** ## **HALKIRK VILLAGE COUNCIL** Scottish Charity No: SC029689 ## **Fundraising and Community Activity –** The beginning of 2024 started off as a success with co-ordinating a providing a Burns Supper with over 80 attendees, celebrated in traditional style with guest speakers, burns supper and a ceilidh band. As spring approached, we held an easter coffee morning with an easter bonnet competition, egg hunt and refreshments for families in the community. Through the year we held several live music events some of which incorporated a Quiz night and Bingo night which proved very successful. During the summer we held our annual GALA, rebranded as GALAFEST providing an upto date take on GALA events with the popular duck and boat race on the river which saw a good turn out from families and children in the village. The main event was held on the Saturday at the recreation field with a gala meets festival feeling. Bouncy castles, local highland dancers, activities for children, not forgetting floats and parade led by the pipe band. This was followed by an open mic and dance later into the evening. Autumn was met with a community spooky house competition and our remembrance sunday service at the war memorial Christmas activities included a window wonderland competition, encouraging the community to decorate festive windows and prizes were awarded for the most festive. Awards were presented at our Christmas bash which started off with a Santa Dash around the Village with families dressed up in Santa hats and suits followed by mice, pies hot chocolate and Christmas fun back at the Ross Institute along with a visit from a special visitor. We aim to provide a balance of fundraising activity and community “free” events wherever possible.
