Structure, Governance & Management
Clydesdale RDA is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). It is governed by its SCIO constitution, together with the RDA Membership Manual, issued by the Riding for Disabled Association.
Appointment of Trustees
Trustee recruitment and appointment is carried out in accordance with the requirements and guidelines contained within the governing documents.
Objectives and Activities
Charitable purposes
The charitable purpose of Clydesdale RDA is the provision and organisation of recreational activities, viz. horse riding, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the activities are primarily intended.
Main activities
The main activities encompass:
-
Negotiations with the proprietor of an equestrian centre for the hire of horses and ponies and the use of the indoor and outdoor riding schools.
-
Ensuring that the equines are suitable for our purposes.
-
Provision of horse tack and safety hats for the riders.

-
Administration of the instructors, helpers and riders as required by the RDA Membership Manual.
-
Progression of PVG scheme applications.
-
Progression of Health & Safety reviews and first-aid training.
-
Fundraising and management of the charity’s monies.
-
Recruitment and training of helpers and instructors.
All these activities are to support the Objectives of Clydesdale RDA, which are to give riders the opportunity to: Reach therapeutic goals; Achieve personal ambitions; combat social isolation, develop life skills, experience the outdoors and connect with animals.
Achievements and performance
The charity has continued to provide riding sessions for disabled people at the Scottish Equestrian Centre, Lanark. Currently providing 2 sessions a week. A second coach has been appointed to provide cover for when the primary coach is not available. Efforts to recruit additional volunteers are ongoing.
The charity has been notified that the Scottish Equestrian centre will be leaving their Lanark site during summer 2025 and moving to new premises. As of the end of May 2025, the trustees have not been advised of the location of the new premises, nor whether Scottish Equestrian Centre will continue to accommodate Clydesdale RDA. It is expected therefore that there will be a period where the charity is unable to offer riding sessions – the Trustees will work during this time to move operations to SHE’s new premises, or to evaluate alternative locations.
Financial Review
Full details of Clydesdale RDA's finances can be found in the annual accounts, later in this Annual report. The charity’s reserves at the end of the reporting period were £38,980, made up of £33,741 in unrestricted funds, and £5,329 in restricted funds – a grant for the installation of a hoist to allow riders with disabilities that prevent use of the standard mounting block to be placed on horses having not yet been spent as negotiations on positioning of the hoist are ongoing. There was an increase in the assets of the charity due to fundraising efforts over the year. Expenditure over the year consisted of Riding charges, RDA insurance and necessary expenses for return to riding, and purchase of items to support the riding program.
Apart from a small amount of riding tack, the charity does not own any assets - and employs no staff.

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.
