The Society was incorporated as a SCIO on 1[st] March 2017. Six Trustees were elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting on 3[rd] September 2024 to serve until the next Annual General Meeting.
Structure Governance & Management
Constitution:
The Charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation and its purpose and administration arrangements are set out in its constitution. The Society was registered by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) on 1 March 2017.
Appointment of Trustees:
At each Annual General Meeting, which is normally held in June, the members may elect any member of the Society to be a charity trustee and the board of Trustees may also at any time appoint any member or, where thought necessary, any non-member to be a charity trustee. At the following Annual General Meeting all of the charity trustees elected or so appointed shall retire from office but shall then be eligible for re-election at the Annual General Meeting or by subsequent re-appointment by the board of elected Trustees.
Objectives & Activities:
As a SCIO the Society’s charitable purpose is the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science with the charitable object of advancing the arts, heritage, culture or science in Forfar and the surrounding area. It is intended that this objective will be achieved principally but not exclusively by performing plays and providing a range of opportunities for people in the Forfar area to develop their interest and skills in all aspects of drama and theatre, acting as an inclusive organisation that meets the needs of its members and contributing effectively to community and cultural life in Forfar and the surrounding area

Activities and achlevements: The last year has been a challenging one for the Society as we strove to sustain our activity alld build capacity with a limited pool of active members. Despite the difficulties faced, we have a nuu]ber of achievemellts to recowse. In May 2024 we staged a higbly successful production of "Halcyon Days" by his touching play dealt sensitively with the relationship between two residents in a nursing home in Dublin. All &8pects of the production were strong, with sensitive perfoTtllances on stage, all Outstalldillg set alld creative lighting alld sound plots. Also in May 2024, we hosted a production by "Shaper Caper" a dance company based in Dundee. Their perfornlances were commissioned by Angus Council as part of an initiative to consult and engage with parents and children in Forfar on a number of isslles affecting their lives. The collsultatlOD was part of the Planet Youth initiative, a ll]ajor effort by public, private alld third sector agellcies to work with communities to improve the health and wellbeing of young people. Over the summer months members worked hard to clean up our Studio Theatre and backstage storage areas, making the space more workable for all involved. Given that il is less than 10 years since Studio 132 was established as a perfon]wice space. it was rellwkable bow mucb terial we had accumulated alld lleeded to dispose of. October brought another visiting company to Studio 132 - Deepness. The company were making a rettlln Visit and took over the Studio to rehearse and present an updated version of "Caught in this Moinent in Time" another play exploring the impact of dementia on those who live with the disease, their families and carers. The productioll then moved oll to Edinburgb to be presented as part of a national dementia arts festival. Our planned November production of "The Tyler Sisters" unfortunately had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. The small cast and supportin8 crew worked hard oll this very difficult collteillporary play and it was a gteat disappointsllellt thal theit work could llot be shared with the public. The club's next production was scheduled for May 2025. This was a bespoke piece, written by a club member and tailored to the availability and capacity of fellow members. "The Gteen Room" is desiglled to provide wtitillg. actillg and productioll experiellce that will ake the club strollger ill future. Throughout the year, we continued to host Spotlights Youth Theatre, which staged several productions in addition to operating their regular weekly workshop programme. 2024-25 also saw the Studio used by DD8 Music as a location for a balld development prograll]me and a series of music nights providing new and emergillg local ballds with a perforn]ance opportunity. In sumnw, despite many challenges and disappointments, the Club has continued to provide and promote live theatre in Forfar. As always, this is only possible thallks to the efforts of those who take on oiganisational and support roles and thanks are due to the Board of TnteeS and to all others who offer their time and talents in support of Forfar Dramatic Society.
Financial Review
The Society’s annual income improved this year due to the increase in the rental of Studio 132, a reduction in electricity costs and the elimination of ‘one off’ costs experienced last year. Unfortunately, performance income suffered due to the cancellation of the ‘Tyler Sisters’ but it is anticipated the Society will return to a full programme in 2025/26.
The Society achieved an annual surplus of £1,768 (2024: deficit £1,262), giving the Society funds of £11,853 (2024: £10,085).
The Trustees consider that these funds are sufficient to enable the Society to maintain, develop and run its clubroom and performance space.

No remuneration or expenses were paid to the trustees or to any connected persons during the year (2024: Nil).

The Forfar Dramatic Socie Scottish Chari No. SC028606 Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of The Forfar Dramatic Society I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31, March 2025 which are set out in pages 4 and 5. Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner. The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investrient (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10 (1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibilrty to examine the accounts as required under section 44 (1) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examinorfs ststement. My examination is carried out in accordan with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examinalion includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes Gonsideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees Conrning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
