## **Structure, Governance and Management**
The charity is called the Lasswade High School PHAB Club. PHAB stands for Physically Handicapped and Able Bodied. The Club is affiliated to PHAB Scotland.
The club is an unincorporated association governed by a Constitution and Club Rules which were last revised in 2002 and which have been lodged with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator. The club is a membership organisation which elects its management committee.
## **Trustee recruitment and appointment**
Club Rules dictate the Officers of the club are the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Office bearers are elected by club members for a period of three years but may be re-elected if members wish. In addition to the office bearers the committee consists of no more than 5 elected members. The Committee represent all members, disabled, able bodied, those with learning difficulties, young and old. Committee members are elected for two years and may be re-elected. If the committee feels that any group is not fully represented, two further members may be co-opted.
## **Contribution of volunteers**
Volunteers are crucial to the operation of the club. The club was very fortunate to have a wonderful group of volunteers (some of whom were young people who attended the school) who assisted with club-based activities and outings. However, since returning in May 2022 post covid, while we have had a core group of volunteers return to us, some of our young people have moved onto further and higher education and we continue the process of trying to recruit more volunteers to support our activities.
The Club holds the Queen’s Award for Volunteering (the “MBE” for volunteering groups) given in recognition of the work the club does with adults who have additional support needs.
## **Charity Objectives and Activities**
The club was formed in 1978 and is based in Lasswade High School. Meetings are usually held every Wednesday evening during school term time from 6.30-8.30pm. The Club’s aim is to provide social and educational opportunities in a relaxed club environment for adults who have additional support needs. Volunteer helpers assist with club-based activities. The club also organises a social outing at the end of each term. Members have the opportunity to attend a cooking class, a music group, play games on the tablets, to participate in crafts and games or to spend time in the club socialising with other members. The club’s objective is to encourage the integration and education of residents in Midlothian who have additional support needs.
## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**
The club’s main achievement during 2025/26 was to provide a safe, friendly environment where people from all walks of life meet together regularly, socialise and learn from one another, promoting a bonding experience and a greater understanding of one another’s needs, hopes and aspirations. The year ended 28[th] February 2026 was our third full year following the pandemic and our regular club nights have been well attended. We also held our usual end of term meal at a new venue, Elginhaugh Farm Restaurant, took Members & Volunteers to the Panto (Jack & the Beanstalk) at Festival Theatre, held a successful Xmas party at Masonic Lodge Bonnyrigg & our Easter party in Lasswade High School.
## **Financial Review**
In 2025/26 we were unsuccessful in our application for grant funding from Tyne & Esk Local Action Group due to oversubscription for the fund. Despite extremely kind donations from Masonic Lodge Bonnyrigg, Alan Watson’s Mother, John Laidlaw’s Mother and a collection following Jason’s Dad’s funeral service, we are reporting a deficit of £814 after payment for all club activities. As in previous years the Club has incurred a small annual loss, but we continue to work hard to do what we can to reduce costs and increase our fundraising opportunities.

## **Policy on reserves**
The trustees consider the reserves balance to be sufficient funds for its immediate needs and future survival.

||The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance
with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the
Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the
audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It
is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the
Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.|||||||||
||My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities
Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the
accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with
those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the

procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit
