## Activities

**Activities:** 'It carries out activities or services itself'

**Purposes:** 'the advancement of education','the advancement of health','the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended','the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage'

**What the charity does:** Achievement Bute is a small, SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) which was set up in 1998 by parents and family members of children with disabilities living on the Isle of Bute, an island with around 6300 inhabitants off the west coast of Scotland. Responding to the lack of inclusive local options parents wanted to ensure that their children could be supported to live fun, ordinary and fulfilling lives in the local community. We seek to achieve this in a number of ways including: individual direct support for children with additional support needs and disabilities through our Care Service which is registered with the Care Inspectorate. a Confidential Counselling Service open to all island families with a child with a disability, which provides emotional support particularly at the time of diagnosis and seasons of transition. and a programme of inclusive children’s clubs and school holiday events open to all children on the Isle of Bute.

**Objectives:** The SCIO will promote, advance and further charitable purposes by providing a range of services (including, but not limited to, social, recreational and educational activities, counselling and support, care, advocacy and advice) to support the evolving needs of disabled children, young people (without applying any prescription as to age), and their families who live on or come to the Isle of Bute. In doing so, the SCIO will also provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation and leisure activities so that the lives, education, experiences and opportunities for those disabled children, young people and their families may be improved and supported.
