The Directors submit their Rep)rt and Aceounts for the year ended 31 O¢tober 2025. The Trustees
confinn that the Annual Re￿rt and finan¢iaJ sfatements of the cbarity comply with current statutory
requir¢ments of the charity's governing document and th¢ provisions of the Accounting & Reporting by
Chartties: Statement of Re¢omtn¢nded Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in
accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Objectives and activities
a) To promote the achievements of the LorIm￿S as a family of the Ar￿ to locate their works and
existing archtves so as to develop and maintsin a comprehensive record.
b) To encourdge excellence in architecttlle. fine aiL stone carvin& letter cuttin& s¢ulEthre. iconography
and the decorative ats.
c) To recognis¢ the interr¢lat¢dness of the 8Tts and to inspire the work of living arbitects. paAnters.
sculptors, musician% poets and other ortists and crnftspeople.
d) To raise f￿dS for the running Costs of the Society. and the fulfilment of its aims
Achievement and Ptrformanee
During the year to 31* October 2025 the Lorimer Society eonsolidated ideas on future projects on a very
productii'e Trustees Away Day in St AndreTrs. This included an aspiration to see the book on Hew
LoTim¢r's life and work by Kate Eustace complete(L to continue the focus on the work of Professor
James Lorimer aDd to progress our WO￿ on the Lorimer Women. Our ADnual Lectures in Summer 2025
Emma Jnglis, National Trust Curator on interiors with a particular interest in textiles. Her lecture
'Daffodils that come befor¢ the swallow dares. was a¢¢ompani¢d by a tour of the textiles at Kellie Castle
and enhanced by the experiences of Monica tA)rimer whose childhood was spent at Kellie.
For our Autumn Lect[￿e in October 2025. Colonial Legacies and Hidden Lives.. Sir David Patrick
Chalmers, JoaDna Herbert. and the Lotim¢r Connection in BTitish Guyana. The first presentation by
Rod¢rick Westtll￿ whose postgraduate studies focus on Sir David Ch&lmcrs. Sir David and his wife
Alice Lorimer liyed for matty years in the fornier British Guvan& vtheff he was one of the longest
serving GovernoTS. Dr Juamita Cox stM)ke aboui the history and statlls of people of colour, particularly
women, and the experiences of Guyanese nursemaid to the Chalmers children, Johanna Herbrt who
moved to Scotland with the famil}, and who was later ￿ried in an Edinburgh churchyard.
We havt added Previously unknoNvTh paintings by JH Lorimer (or unknoiTrD whereabouts) to our record
and have responded to numerous enquiries about the Lorimer famil> s works.

a) Basis of accounting
The fJnancial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Re￿rting by
Charities: Statement of Recojntnend Prndice (applicable to ch￿ltieS preparing their accounts in
accordallce with the FinanciaI Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Irelalld
IFRS 102) (i55ued in October 2019)-Charities SORP (FRS 10?), the Financial Reporting
Stand8rd 2ppli¢able in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2tK>6.
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. as modified by
the inclusioll of f￿ed 3&set investments at tDark¢t value.
b) Fund Accounting
UnTestricted fimds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in the furtherance of the
genernl objectives of the charity. Unrestricted fimds inclllde a revaluation reserve representAng
the restatement of investment assets at market values.
