Present: Mike Collins, David Vassallo, Martin Edwards, Hilary Morris, Edward Wawrzynczak, Alistair McMillan, Will Parker

1.The Chairman Mike Collins called for a minute’s silence in memory of Sean Hughes who had played such an instrumental role in the JBT.

## 2.Apologies: Caitjan Genty

3.Minutes of the 2024 AGM:

Point 8 to read “Jasper” not “Joseph”. Duly noted and minutes carried forward.

## 4. Matters arising not on the agenda:

An additional meeting will be called by the Chairman to discuss

(a) Congress travel grants once the Trust is in receipt of an application for support for the 2027 Congress from the BSHM

(b) the JBT Lecture and award and nominations for suitable lecturers (Congress 2027).

5.Mike Collins welcomed new Trustees David Vassallo and Caitjan Genty (abs) in person and thanked them for their contributions to date in promoting the JBT. The changes suggested by David Vassallo regarding the online presence were noted as being now implemented and could be seen on the BSHM home page.

6.Hilary Morris was thanked by the Chairman for taking on the temporary post of Hon. Secretary. Due to a conflict of interest, she will stand down after this meeting. The Chairman proposed the nomination of Mike Davison as a new Hon. Secretary and Trustee. This was supported by the Trustees present and Mike will commence in this role post Congress. Mike Collins will inform Rathbones.

7. The Chairman formally acknowledged the following changes regarding the membership of the Trustees:

Hilary Morris now ex-o^icio (BSHM) and as before Alistair McMillan ex-o^icio (SSHM)

## 8.Chair of Trustees report:

Attention was raised by Mike Collins regarding the fact that the JBT had received only one research grant in the past year. However there had been a significant rise in the request for travel grants (nine to date). It was also noted that the funds were being used elsewhere as in the new Osler travel award and ongoing involvement with the BSHM Congress in the form of cash prizes for the best student oral and poster presentations and funding the JBT Lecture which is envisaged to be a permanent part of the biennial BSHM Congress.

## 9. Treasurer’s Report:

Will Parker (Treasurer) presented the latest Statement of Funds in Current Account and Investments which was formally proposed (Hilary Morris)and seconded (Martin Edwards) at the meeting.

The funds continue to grow whilst also being used appropriately to fund a range of new initiatives. The Treasurer recommended that Rathbones remain as the Trust investment advisors.

## 10.Secretary’s report:

was not in a position to uphold this commitment.

## 11. JBT Lecture BSHM Congress:

The inaugural lecture will be given by Iain Macintyre this September in Leeds. An appropriate award has been funded by the JBT and will be presented to Iain after his lecture. Due to the importance of the event Mike Blair (son of John Blair) has been invited to attend the lecture and the Congress dinner. The Lecture and award will be repeated at the next BSHM Congress

## 12. International Student fellowship:

The JBT is represented by Martin Edwards. Plans for this to take place are now being led by Graham Kyle. JBT funding has been allocated to the Fellowship for an initial period of three years.
