The minister, who is a m¢mb¢r of the Kirk Session, is elected by the congregation and inducted by Presbytery. Organisational Structure Tlie Kirk Session meets several times a year, usually in Westray Parish Kirk. Meetings arc intimated through Sunday Services announcements, newsletters, maLiai.in¢s, and local radio. All mcclingJs arc hcld in public; anyone is welcome lo attend. Objectives and Activities Thc Chureh of Scotland is Trinitarian in doctrine, refomed in tradition and Pre.sbyterian in polity. It exists to glorify God and lo work tor tlie advancement of Lhri5l's Kingdom ihrougjhoul thc world. As a national Chui'cli, il acknowledges a distinctive call and duty to bring th¢ ordinaiices of religion to the peoplc in every purish of S¢()Iland through a territorial ministry. It co-op¢rat¢s with other Churches in various ecumenical bodiLs iii Scotland and beyond. Achievements and Performance 2023 saw a continuation of traditional levels of activity in the Church and of coinmuiiity activities in Westr8y. The Church building Temained open at all ttmes during the year for anyone wishing prayer time or a quiet space. The coi)gregalion nonnally meels for public worship on Sundays at I1.30am but also hosts a nuinber of other cvcnts and services which are intirnaled locally. There are a numb¢r of orgNanisalions connected with the con&?regFation includingj a Guild. Sunday School and Youth Group. We seek to serve God in our cornmunity.. worshippin wilnessing and caring logether. Duriiig tlie year the CongFregational Roll reinained fairly constant, with att¢ndan¢¢ at services on a Sunday morning being similar to recent years. We continued to work closely with our Baptist neighbours and held unii¢d services alternating betwecn th¢ t￿0 Kirk building7S.

The eonb7resiation continue to take seriously our responsibilities towards enviroiimeiital stewardship and were awarded a Gold Eco Congregation award in 2020. Whil81 ¥ratifyin¥ to receive such recogFnition, we take it as a challengie and incentive to maintain and improve current standards. W¢ are a Fairtrade Church and have played an actii'e role in Westray s Fairtrade Island award as well as having input into the wider Orkney Fairtrade Group. The congregialion is proud lo be partnered wilh conbJrebJations in the Thyolo Highlands Presbytery (CCAP) of Malawi. We value this partnership and remain committed to developingy links with our Malawian partners in vaTiOUS ways. We also have strong connections H'iih the Gogo Olive Trust (a Westray based charity helping to empower woinen in Zimbabwe). We are regularly involved in supporting Christian Aid and other appeals includin¥ an appeal for Ukraine and continue to support several loLal causes includingy the RNLI, MS Rcscarch (uid CanL¢r C(Ir¢ charities. Aetivities for Children & Young People The congregation has a busy and active Youth Group involi'ingJ most ot. the islands. secondary agye youngsters and the Church of Scotland Youth Group (COSY) meets periodically durinsF 5ervic¢ limes for the same agJe group. Tlie minister is regularly inN'olvcd with Primary and Secondary School activities as School Chaplain and there is a Sunday School and l or crèche activity at all services, with all-a&Fe services from time to time througjhout the ye(Ir. FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023 Financial Review The principal source of income during the year was donalions under '"gJift aid" which at £9,936 had decreased by 4.8 % on the previous year. Weekly Free Offcrings wcre less than the previous year with a dccr¢as¢ of 27.00/D to £1,671 while open plate offerings increased by 17.1 0/0 on the previous year to £3,631. Inv¢slm¢nt income was up on the previous year with prevailing interest rates edging upwards from tlie lower rates experienced during 2022. The balances held have decreased slightly. however interest rates remained quite low so that interest earned was modest. A reduced level of regyular receipts was realised in the year compared to 2022, and wlien Lombin¢d with an increase in the expenditure on charitable activities, an excess of payments over receipts was Tealised. Open plate offerings were again irnPToved iiih ihe return of rcg7ular Sunday worship. The net position was an overall excess of payments over receipls of £1,206. Reserve5 Policy It is ihe Trustees. policy to hold reserves of approximalely six months expendilure including desigmaied funds. In additlon to covering general administration and running costs, there must be sufficient funds to cover the rcpair and replacement of equipmenl and to maintain the buildinbys (Westray Parish Kirk, Th¢ Manse and Ivy Cottagie) in a sat15factory state. At the year end the Church held cash funds of £105,212.49 of which £67,346.04 had been designated for the fabric fund and £28,461.38 restricted for furtherance of the Gospel. pastoral care and Christian educalioii. The remaintng balance of £9,405.07 represents approximately tour months expenditure on ordinary charitable activili¢s.
