Our aim is to combat poverty and improve the lives of unemployed people, disabled people, benefits claimants and low paid/ precarious workers in Edinburgh and area. To do this we encourage mutual aid, collective self-education and empowerment. Our activities include weekly welfare rights sessions, and outreach stalls outside jobcentres to inform claimants of their rights and publicise the welfare rights support sessions. We enable public access to ACE's Autonomous Library by regular monthly open days on the first Saturday of the month, held in the meeting room of a local Housing Coop, enabling members of the public to browse the wide range of books and reading material, and also borrow books. Regular discussions are held at the library open days. Meanwhile ACE is involved in ongoing co-operation with other not-for-profit organisations in the longer-term project of securing new larger premises.

Objectives: The objects of the Group are to relieve the poverty, suffering and distress, to further the health and to advance the education of unemployed persons and or other residents of the Edinburgh area who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress
