Trustees’ Report on Activities
Lochgelly Spiritualist Church continues to stand as a place of healing, learning and spiritual connection, guided by the principles of the Spiritualists’ National Union (SNU). Our purpose is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals may explore their spirituality, receive evidence of the continuation of life, and develop in accordance with the Seven Principles of Spiritualism: the Fatherhood of God, the Brotherhood of Man, the Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels, the Continuous Existence of the Human Soul, Personal Responsibility, Compensation and Retribution for all Deeds done on Earth, and Eternal Progress Open to Every Human Soul.
Stability and Consolidation
Following the significant disruption and vulnerability experienced during the previous reporting year, 2025 has been a year of stability, consolidation and recovery. The Trustees focused on maintaining consistent services, strengthening internal arrangements and ensuring the church remained open, safe and accessible to members of the congregation and the wider community. Throughout the year, regular services and activities were delivered as planned. Attendance at services and events remained steady, and the church continued to fulfil its role as a place of spiritual support and community connection. The emphasis shifted from recovery to sustainability — ensuring the church was not only operational, but thriving.
Activities and Events
A range of activities and events were held during the year to support both the financial sustainability of the church and the spiritual and social wellbeing of those who attend. Two fundraising evenings were held, generating essential income to support running costs and planned improvements to the premises. Two oneto-one reading afternoons also took place, with experienced mediums generously offering their time to provide personal spiritual guidance and messages of comfort while raising funds to support refurbishment works within the church. Towards the end of the year, a Christmas special service featuring Stephen Burns was delivered, raising funds for two local charities and providing a meaningful celebration close to Christmas. Food and refreshments were served afterwards, creating an opportunity for fellowship and social connection, with feedback from attendees extremely positive.

Improvements to Church Facilities
During the year, the Trustees undertook practical improvements to the church premises to enhance safety, functionality and social use of the space. The kitchen was relocated from the main social area into a previously under-used committee room, with a hatched servery installed to allow refreshments to be served safely and efficiently. The former kitchen area was repurposed into a dedicated social space, furnished with canteenstyle tables and chairs, providing a safe and welcoming environment for people to remain after services and encouraging conversation, companionship and the development of friendships. These changes have significantly improved the use of the building and strengthened the church’s role as a community space, not only a place of worship.
Funding and Grants
The church was successful in securing external funding during the year, supporting both immediate improvements and future service delivery. A grant of £980.00 from Fife Charities Trust, administered via Fife Council, was awarded for the purchase of new chairs for the church, with older chairs donated to another local community group (The D.I.C.E. Project Ltd) to support their establishment. In addition, at the end of December 2025 the charity was advised they had secured a grant from Fife Voluntary Action’s Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund (Adults) to deliver a monthly bereavement and companionship support group with delivery taking place from January 2026 to December 2026.
Looking Forward and Acknowledgements
By the end of the reporting period, Lochgelly Spiritualist Church had moved beyond a period of instability and into a position of renewed confidence and sustainability. The Trustees remain committed to maintaining consistent services, strengthening community connections, and developing activities that support spiritual growth, healing and wellbeing.
The Trustees wish to place on record their sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to the life and work of the church throughout the year. In particular, gratitude is extended to the mediums who regularly serve the church and have generously given their time and spiritual service in support of services, events and development activities. The Trustees would also like to acknowledge the commitment of volunteers and committee members who have worked consistently behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the church during a year of consolidation and progress. Their time, reliability and willingness to take on responsibility have been central to the church’s continued stability.
In addition, a group of volunteers has begun healing training during the year, with the intention of serving the church in the future by offering healing sessions as part of the church’s spiritual provision. This development represents an important step in strengthening the church’s capacity to offer holistic spiritual support to those who attend.
The Trustees are deeply grateful for the dedication shown by all who contribute to the church and recognise that the progress made during the year would not have been possible without their collective efforts.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner
The Charity Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The Charity Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to provide an independent examination of the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulation 2006. The directions given in the constitution the independent examination includes a review of the accounting records, comparing the supporting evidence and seeking explanation of any unfamiliar items. | have examined the records and the accounts and declare that the procedure undertaken does not provide all the evidence required for an audit and as such do not express such an opinion.
Independent Examiner’s Observations
The Trustees having overcome issues from previous charity trustees’ actions and have for the past 12 months followed proper and recognised financial procedure. The negative effect of the closure of the previous bank account resulted in a utilities debt of £2,364.57 which the new Trustees settled then showed a credit value for utilities. The Trustees decided to leave the credit value to show good faith and the amount will reduce utility amounts due for the 25-26 financial year. The accounts presented here are for a full 12 Month Calendar Year to December 2025.
independent Examiner’s Statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention: -
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44({1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations,
-
and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or
-
