CHILDRENS WILDERNESS SANCTUARY
Annual report 2024. May 2025
The charities aims are to encourage education through nature and the environment with children and young people. This will also empower children and young people as they develop certain skills by being in nature.
Last year was a different year. For a while we have had discussions with the organisation who plans to use our valley for wind turbines. This will mean that we will be surrounded by lots of very high turbines very near our land and buildings. The outcome of the meetings is that we have to relocate.
During the year people who still have a connection with the charity have been visiting and spent time here. Without being asked they all shared what they have learned and what difference this has made in their lives. The outcomes have been far more reaching than we ever thought possible. They all had one thing in common, they all felt sad with the coming changes. They all learned skills that helped them through their lives. They learned different and better ways to communicate with people and situations. They learned to problem solve, learned to deal with adversity, learned to appreciate nature and look after this better. Some are now working as teachers, some have jobs with trees and nature. If they have children of their own, they have passed these skills onto their children. They all mentioned the freedom for being themselves being here. They loved being here. Being here created deep connections that developed here with the people and animals here. These connections remained and when returning here again they quickly fell into place and it felt like no time had passed between when they last had been here.
We talked about why it worked so well being here and came up with these points. There was space and time, people listened, problems were being sorted with everyone together, everyone was feeling valued and being part of a community. People felt safe and within this safe and open environment they could grow and bring changes to themselves. It was so unexpected hearing their updates and each and everyone giving this feedback.
We will reconsider our upcoming changing situation and find the best possible solution for our future.
