The Scottish European Educational Trust ISEETI is an independent, non-political charity commltted to promoting international
education. 5ki115 development and langua8e learning amon8St children and young people In Scotland. SEETaim5 to rnaximi5e 5ki11s
development and encourage parDcSpants to realise their full poterntial. This is achieved through a programme olen8a8in8 projects,
which offer targ￿ed support to empower youn6 people in rural cornmunities and areas that are experiencing economic or social
dlsadvantage.
SEET is passionate about supporting and ertablins future generations of young people in Scotland to gain the skills necessary to
en8a8e and flourish in a multinational, rnulti-lingual environment. Our projects offer a context for lan8uage learnin& global
citizenship education. and increasin8 cultural awareness, while encouraging the development of a ran8e of core skills essential to
enhaacing future employability prospèrts. A kw aim for SEET in 2023-24 will be to continue to 8row both projects, parti<ipation
rates, getting more children and young people involved in SEET'S activities, ensuring that language and international education
opportunities remain accessibleto all. Wefeel strong¢ylhatwe can p13ya key role in ensuring the importance tsf language learning
and international education remain atthe forefront DI Scottish education.
It15 a partlcularly speclal year for SEET, as we are celebratinB Our 30th blrthday as a char5ty in 2023. We are proud to celebrats 30
years of Ireating opportunstie5 for primary and secondary school pupils across Scotland to bulld the skllls, knowledge. and
confidence to look outward and to en8a8e with other countries, cultures, and language5.

Our Im
SEET 15 cornrnitted to conducting regular evaluations of the impatt we are having, and the prcgress bein8 made towards meeting
our outlined goals. 7his year, we continued to offer hybrid enEa£ernent which allowed us to reach a wider audience. The feeifback
gathered from the projerts, as well as participation data, social media reach and media coverage, serve as a bèse for presenting
our impact on young people, teachers, schoo15, and the educat49n sector in Scotland.
Throughout this projert year, Euroquiz and Our World continued their trend5 of engaging with high numbers of Scottish schools
and young people. with both project5 reathing a record rate of pup41 participation. M¢ye than 2,750 pupils from 550 schools
partitipated in the Euroquiz projert and Our World worked wth over 725 puplls from 47 Scottlsh secondary schools across 20
Local Authorsties.
EUROQUIZ
Euroquii 15 an annual project for P6 pupils, which sees teams ol four working together to broaden their knowledge ol Europe and
the wider world. Subjects covered include histtsry, geograph¥, C￿ltUre. languages. global citizenship and European affairs. Through
particlpating in Eurtsquiz. pupils deepen their knowledge Of international affairs. but also have the opportunlty to develop skllls
and achleve the outcotnes set out In the Currlculum for Ex￿llence. Fleats take place in every local authorlty across Scotland from
February to April. with the winning team5 from all 8rea5 going forw3rd to the Nztion31 Euroquiz Final Sn June. Euroqijlz creates an
enthusiasm for le8rnin8, developin6 puplls. abllity to work in tearns and communicate effectively, ultimately increasin8 thdr
ccffifidence and range of core skills. More than 2.750 puplls from 550 Khools participated in the Euroquiz project in 2022-23. This
is ourhl8hest partlclpatlon rate In the hlstoryof the Euroqulzyojert, and we arè delighted that so many young people took part.
We offèred a hybrid model of en8a8ement again for Euroquiz this year, with each Local Authority choosin8 a heat format to best
suit the needs of the schools in their area. We developed remote online models for the Eurgquiz Heats, removing barriers to
parti¢ipatitsn for all. particularly for schoo15 in rural areas and areas ol high socio-economic deprsvation. This year, we host￿ the
Euroquiz Final at the University of Edinburgh'5 McEwan Hall for the first time. We were delighted to welcorne pupils frorn 31 Local
Authorities to the Final. where pupils were cheered on by parents and peers from the gallery. The magnificent McEwan Hall
provided an excellent venye for the event and ￿Presented a unique opportunity for partitipating pupils to take centre stage in
an aspirational venue. widening their horitons. while rÈcognising and celebrating thÈir own achievements.

This yearfs Euroquiz project received support from the Scottish Government, 7he James T Howat Charitable Trust, Thomas
Tunnock Itd. Fieldfishef ILP and the Faculty of Advocates. We are also grateful to several partners and Individual donors, without
whom the continuatlon of this project would ntst have been possible.
OUR WORLD
Our World is an innovative filmmaking project which uses interdisciplinary learnin8 to enga8e secondary school pupils In Screen
educatlon. languagè lÈarnin& and ultlmately develop core skills. Particlpants work in small tèams (with the help of SEET staff and
teacher51 to develgp multylin8ual film Ideas based on themes relating to global cltizenship. before receiving tralnin8 from industry
professionals on how to 5torybo8rd, shoot. arkd edit their concepts. Tearns then create their films at a filmmaking workshop.
before showcasing them at a Premiere & Awards Ceremony, where partiapants pr&ent their idea5 and receive recognition of
their achievements throughout the process. The project is designed to supplement language learnin& promote Leamin8 for
Sustainability and to achieve the outcomes Set out in the Curriculum for EX￿llence. The creative process of storyboarding and
filmmakin8 uses lang￿ageS to explore global citiienship and its relevance to pupi15' live5.

Our World was completed in a hybrid format in 2022-23. We developed an online version of the school visit5 and teacher CLPL
sessions which allowed us to work with schools from much further afield th&n we had done in previous years. We workwith loca
Authority contacts and schools to identify potential project beneficiaries and to remove any barriers to participation. To achieve
this, we offere(J a travel and accomrnodètion bursary for schools, allowin8 schools in areas of high souo-economic deprivation a5
measyred by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation ISIMDI ènd in rural areas to participate. The hybrid nature of both projects
thls year removed any geographical or acce55ibility barriers for our participants. All learning resources were available for free on
our website.
More than 725 puplls from 47 Stotllsh Hlgh SthooLs signed up to participate In Our World 2022-23. These schoo15 spanned 20
Lotal Authorltles In Scotland. This is an increase in comparison to last yearfs figures. 28% of schools which participated in Our
World 2022-23 were trorn SIMD area$ 1-3. accordlng to SIMDfigures. Forthe firsttime in 2022-23 projert year. Our World worked
with pupils in an A5N sthool (Park School. East Ayr5hirel. We offered a tailored workshop for the pupils, whieh involved SEET staff
attending the School, providin8 differentiated learning and teaching ￿sOUrces. and an adapted filmmaking timetable. Accordin8
to the feedback and evaluation forms which we tollected after the workshop stage of the projert, 45% ot participating pupils self-
identified as non-white. with an astonishing 29% putting English as their second lan8ua8e. It is an on8oing aim of the project to
continue growin8 the participation rate of schools within lowerSIMD and rur81 area5. There is a real appet￿te lor pupils with En81ish
as their second language to participate in Our World, as the project is a celebration of the diversity wlthin ourschool communitles
whieh treats all lan8Ua8es and cultures equally.
This yearfs Our Wodd project recefved support from the Scotttsh Government, the Hugh Fraser Foundation, the Educational
Institute of Scotland, Glasgow City Council. Creative1Screenl Scotland, New Park Educational frust, the Faculty of Advocatés.
Fieldfi5her LLP and the Cruden Foundation. We are also hu8ely grateful for support from individual donor5 and sgrne projert
partners too whose contributions are essential to the continuation of the project.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The Flnanclal Statements have been preparèd in accordance with current statutory requirements. The results for the year and
financial position of the charity are as shown in the annexed accounts.
Thestatement of Financial Actlvities indicates net expenditure for the year of £7.35512022- net income of £7851 and total funds
of £29,62012022 - E36,9751 at 31 July 2023, of whith £1,95312022- £6041 relates to Restricted Funds.
INVESTMENT POLICY AND PERFORMANCE
Thé trustees. having regard to the liquidity requirements of running the tharity. have kept available funds sn a current account.
RISK MANAGEMENT
The Trustees have assessed the major risks. financial and non-financsal. to which the charity is exposed and are satisfied that
systems are in pla￿ to mitigate any exposure to the major risks as a ￿SuIt of this review.
RESERVES POLICY & GOING CONCERN
Although it is the poliry of the charity to Maintain Unrestrieted funds li.e. fund5 not designated, committed or invested in fixed
assets) at a sufficient level to cover administrative costs, the charity's core activities are mainly financed by Restricted Funds.
Accordingly. the char*ty's ilnre5trirted reseryes largely represent funds arisln8 from donation5 and unrestrtrcted grants.
Unrestricted funds per the General Fund at 31 July 2023 amounted to £29,03412022- £36,3711 which was considered adequate
by the frustees.
Althou8h there has been a decrease in funds this year. Trustees have con5tdered the situation and are confldent about the
prospects of the Char￿tY for at least the next 12 months. Project empenditure tan be adjusted according to the available funding.
Therefore the trustees consider that the charity is è goirtg ¢oncern.

PLANS FOR FUTURE PERIODS
The Euroquiz and Our Worfd projects will continue to run from autumn 2023 for the 2023-24 academic year.

deprivation.

Continue to encourage schools to adopt a whole school and community approach to Euroquiz and Our World.
Enhance ourevaluation strategy In orderto collect more meaningful data in relation toyoung people's experiences takTn8
part in our projeets and the impact this h35 on their learning.
Continue tts develop and enhance language content to raise enthusiasm for language learning and meet the aims set out

ACCOUNTING POLKIES
1.1 Accounting tonvention
The accounts (financial statements) have been prepared underthe historlcal cost conventlon with items recognised
at C05t or transattion value unless otherwise ststed in the relevant notelsl to these accounts. The financial
statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice.. Accounting and
Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financ¢al Reporting Stsndard applicable in
the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 issued on 16 July 2014 and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in
the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021. the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotlandl Act 2005
and the Charities Accounts Iscotlandl Regulations 2006 las amerndedl.
The charity constitute5 a public benefit entity as defined by FRSIO2.
The prlncipal accounting policies adopted In the preparation of the financial statements are set out below.
1.2 Going Concern
The accounts have been prepared on a B￿n8 concern basi5. The Trustees have assessed the Charity'5 ability to
continue as a gcxng concern and have reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate resource5 to continue
in operational existence lor the foreseeable future. There are funds currently available to meet all liabilities when
they become due and if there are any thanges in position the Trustees will make the necessary adjustments to
serv(ce provlsion and stafflng. Thus they contlnue to adopt the going concern basls of accountlng in preparin8
these accounts,
1.3 Income
Voluntary income Including donatior*s. gifts and legacies and Brants that provide core funding or are of general
nature are recognised where there 15 entitlement. certainty ot receipt and the amount can be measured wtth
sufficient reliabiltty. Such inctsrne is only deferred when the donor specifies that the grant or donation must only be
used in future accountin8 periods, or when the donor has imposed conditions which must be met before the
charitv has unconditional entitlement.
Income from investment5 is ir¥cluded in the year in which it is receivable.
Income from charitable activities including income received under contract or where entitlemet7t to grant funding
s subjert to specific performance conditions is recognised as earned as the related good5 or Services a￿ provided.
Grant income in this category provides funding to support perforrnance activitie5 and is recognised where there is
entitlemenL certainty of receipt and the amount can be measured with sufficient ￿liabIlity.
1.4 Expèndlture
Expenditure 15 recognised on an accruals basis when a liability is incurred. Expenditure include5 any VAT which
tannot be fullv recovered. and is reported as )art of the exoenditure to which it felates.
Chèritable expenditurè comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of Its actlvities and servSces for
its beneficiaries. It includE5 both costs that can be allocated dlrectly to s¢Jch attivities and those costs of an indirect
nature necessary to support them.
1.5 Tan8lble fixetl assets and depreclatlon
Fixed assets (excluding investments) are ststed at C05t le55 attumulated depreciation. The costs of minor additiot15
r those costing below £300 are not capitalised.
Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost less residual value of eath asset over its expected
useful life, as follows..

1.6 Taxation
The Charity is not re8i5tered for VAT and accordin8ly expenditure includes irrecoverable input VAT where

Purposes of Restrlrted Funds
The Euroquiz Fund represents funds allocated to the administration and runnin8 of the Euroquiz project
for primary school pupils.
The Our World Fund represents funds allocated to the Our Wodd Project lor secondary schools students,
which involves lan8ua8e development and film-making workshops.
Any transfers from general lunds into restricted funds represent amounts paid to the charity in
donationslgrants which the Trustees have decided to transfer to cover current year project expenditure.
