Tr￿UTer ## **Strathmore JAC** Scottish Association of Young Farmer’s Clubs CHARITY NUMBER SC021928 **Annual General Meeting – Wednesday 5[th] March 2025** ## **Management Report** The Management Committee submits their report for the year ending 5[th] March 2025. ## **Organisation and Activities** The club is a charitable unincorporated organisation. As governed by our Constitution, the Club provides activities, which further the personal development, cultural education and training of young people and make rural life more attractive to the young members of the community. The Management Committee who are appointed or elected at the Annual General Meeting administers the Club. The Club is affiliated to the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs to whom the affiliation fees are payable. All members were elected at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 6[th ] March 2024 and held office throughout. Chairperson Vice Chairperson Secretary Press and Minutes Secretary Treasurer Club Advisor Club Leader Stockjudging Trainer Committee ## **Review of the Year** Strathmore Junior Agricultural Club has had another very successful year celebrating the 80[th] Anniversary. The syllabus started with heading down to the East Region Regional Assembly, where the club placed 1[st] in East Region Recruitment and 2[nd] in East Club of the Year. This saw the club going through to National Club of the Year, which is a tremendous achievement for Strathmore. Meetings started in the middle of April with our interclub sports evening, where we were joined by the Perthshire District clubs, participating in games of football and rounders organised by our Sports Convenors . Members then enjoyed a tour of Lundie Dairy Farm by kind permission of and . Members enjoyed an informative tour learning about how a dairy farm works. Strathmore then participated in a tour of Coupar Angus Fire Station, where we were shown just how hard it is to be in the Fire Services and heard multiple stories of why it’s important to stay safe on the farm. A big thanks goes to at the station for such a wonderful tour. The end of May saw members taking part in a very competitive evening of raft building, where teams built and raced raft boats around Monikie Country Park’s loch. To kick off June we held our Annual Car Treasure Hunt kindly organised by and , starting at Fowlis Easter Hall and finishing at Muirhead Church. ‘Kara’s Crackers’ took the lead for 1[st] place, winning the best prize of organising the coming years Treasure Hunt. The middle of Show season was soon upon us with the run up to the highland show, so the committee planned a Beach BBQ at St Andrews Beach. This was a great way for members to relax over burgers and a great game of Frisbee. July brought around our Annual Summer Stockjudging held at Westhall Farm by kind permission of the Greenhill Family. Once again this was a brilliant evening with 59 members, family and friends competing. A thank you must go to for judging. Our penultimate meeting of the summer syllabus saw members enjoying a wonderful tour of Ogilvy Vodka distillery kindly hosted by , showing us just how the company has thrived off such a diverse way of farming. Our summer syllabus was rounded off with our Annual Mock Auction and Valuation held at West Mains Farm, by kind permission of the Family. It was great to see such a high attendance once again, and a special thanks goes to who was our Auctioneer and for such a wonderful spread of food. As summer came to a close, we dove headfirst into our winter syllabus. Starting with a spooky new members evening in October, we saw a few new faces getting stuck into our pumpkin carving competition, which really showcased Strathmore’s creativity. The start of November brought around our Annual Basket Whist Drive. This was a great night for all generations to catch up, and for the younger members to learn the ropes from the very best Whist players. A special thank you goes to for helping us set up the evening. Members then embarked on a journey down to Edinburgh for an exclusive tour of Peggyslea Clydesdales by kind permission of the Family. This was a great change of pace for members, learning all about the history of the Clydesdale breed, showing standards and also a carriage drive around the farm. A big thank you goes to and for a wonderful tour. Strathmore were joined by members from Bankfoot, Aberfeldy, Banks of Tay and Strathearn for a tour of Abernyte Brewery, where members were able to take a practical approach learning about the brewing process. A thank you goes to for their generosity and hosting such a great evening. December quickly rolled around, starting with our Winter Stockjudging at Balmydown Farm by kind permission of the Hodnett Family. This saw another wonderful turnout, with members enjoying 4 classes of sheep and a novelty class judging Clydesdales. A special thanks goes to for the wonderful food to finish the evening, for being our sheep judge and being our Clydesdale judge. The run up to Christmas saw members letting their hair down at our annual Christmas meal at the Ardler Tavern. Special thanks to and all the staff for providing such a wonderful evening. 2025 kicked off with a great evening of Line Dancing at Millennium Hall with , who definitely showed us how hard line dancing can be. The end of January brought members together for an evening of team work at Tenpin Dundee’s escape rooms. Even though only one team escaped in time, a great evening was had by all. Leading us into the last meetings of the winter syllabus was our Press and Minutes Secretary , who held our vice night at Hollywood Bowl Dundee. and our Vice Chairperson s organised a wonderful evening of bowling for members. Our final meeting was our Leader and Advisor Night, where members enjoyed some good old fashioned young farmers team games. A big thank you goes to our leader and advisor and for for hosting the organising, and evening. and The club has had a successful year charity fundraising, kicking off with a Charity Welly Walk up Mount Keen at the tail end of August. Members grabbed their Welly’s and took the 17km hike in order to raise funds for Ninewells Children’s Ward. This was such a successful event, raising a total of £720, which was used to buy teddy bears, pyjamas, sensory lights and other items on the hospitals wish list which the club gifted just before Christmas. Hogmanay brought around Strathmore’s Annual Charity Tractor run, which this year was in aid of Scottish Charity Air Ambulance. Going from Piperdam Country Resort through Newtyle, Meigle, Alyth, Blairgowrie and finishing at East of Scotland in Coupar Angus. We had a brilliant attendance of 70 tractors coming along to support us, which raised £5705.92. With the changing times we had the opportunity to create a page on JustGiving to make donations easier to monitor and quicker to donate to SCAA. We received £3269.92 in cash donations on the day, which we transferred into the JustGiving from the club account. The club has had a very successful year with competitions. At district level, members competed in country cooks, netball, football, dodgeball, cabaret and Club Secretary and Press and Minutes Secretary competed in member of the year in which placed 3[rd] . and competed in Junior Member of the Year, in which placed 2[nd] and placed 3rd. Strathmore also took part in Angus Tayside Field Day, taking home 1[st] in team stockjudging, welding and Arts and crafts, leading to the club placing 2[nd] overall. At Agri-skills we took home 2[nd] overall. Following on from our success at District level, and competed in East Country Cooks, placing 2[nd] and qualifying for National. East Rally proved to be a very successful day for Strathmore, with us winning the produce section and taking home the Renilson cup, along with placing 1[st] in the stockjudging and placing 2[nd] , our foursomes board placed 2[nd] along with individual winnings in the produce section. We had members taking part in East Stockjudging, Clay Pigeon Shooting, with a special mention to who placed best junior, 10 Pin Bowling, East Big Night out, helping the district secure 2[nd] place, East Quiz and finally East Cabaret, where the club placed 5[th] overall. At national level we started the year out with taking part in National Curling. Members competed in National Arts and Crafts, Stockmanship, Sheep Sheering and Photography at the Royal Highland show. This year also saw the return of National Bale art, with Bessie the Cow on show between Blairgowrie and Alyth. Teams competed in National Foursomes, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Bowling and Country Cooks. took home 1st at National Beef Cattle Dressing for Juniors, and 3[rd] overall. Events have been non-stop for Strathmore in the 80[th] year, kicking off with our Neon Night in March. We have held a dance at Alyth Show, a fundraising quiz, and have a race night up and coming. Our Annual Dinner Dance was a bit different this year, celebrating 80 years of club success. It was fantastic to see current and past members get together to celebrate such an occasion, with over 220 tickets sold. A huge thank you goes to our guest speaker for a great speech, and to the dinner dance committee for all their hard work this year. We have had a fantastic year, gaining new members and reconnecting with past members. We hope this continues in the coming years and members new and old will continue to gain the benefits from being in Young Farmers. ## **Future Developments** The club will continue to organise activities which meet the objectives of the club. Over the past year we have gained new members which we will work hard to keep and encourage further new members into the club. We will also continue to support the other Angus Tayside clubs and other Clubs and Districts alike. For this year’s summer syllabus, our committee has organised meetings that will accommodate all ages and include meetings that will encourage new members to come along. As the competition season starts again, we hope to keep the passion for participating in as many competitions and events in the calendar as we can, continuing the positive attitudes that our members have to achieve as much as they can from Young Farmers and to help the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs continue to grow.
