**Objectives:** The purpose of the trust is the advancement of education in the Law of Scotland, the object of the Trust being in affectionate memory of the late Sir Thomas Broun Smith QC, Professor of Scots Law at the University of Aberdeen from 1949 to 1958, to establish a prize to be awarded from time to time in respect of excellence shown by the prize winner in reviewing in a historical and comparative context the law of Scotland and proposing change therein relating, when considered appropriate, to a topic which is at the time under consideration by the Scottish Law Commission whether as a proposal or in a consultative memorandum or in a report and to do all things necessary for the attainment of the foregoing purpose and objects.
