to further the study and leaching of Scotlish literature. its Sanguage and history,
particularly by producing editions of original texts.

Achlevement & Performance for 2025
The principal purpose of the SocEty remains the publLshing of edrtic￿s of c*iginal texts.
However. no volume was submitted for kxJb1￿ati0n in 2025. Councd very much regrets the
hiatus in puL4ishing in the main series. one volurne has been submitted for publication in 2026,
and a working party has been set up from Council to invite W0p￿LS for edited volumes to
enhance the wblicah'on schedule.
In 20C6 the Society set up a fund to eslablith a b￿nn￿al put4ic knture in memory of its fomer
President and Honorary Pre￿dent, Professor Angus Mclntosh. The texts of the first lectures
are availatAe for d¢)WI￿oad from the webg.le of the Society. On 9 December 2025. the first
Mclnlosh lecture *nce September 2022 was hekJ in Glasgow al the Ke5vin Hall, delivered by
Professor Joanna Kopaczyk. The lecture lrtle was 'Seots as a CThlerella Language,. The
audience was around 30. Planning for the next one will start in Apr￿ 2026.

Statsment of Reservos Polky:
Council keeps the resevves policy under constant review and considers that a minimum
reserve of £20.000 is necessary for ensuring the conts'nued work of the Society.

Statement of Trustees Responsibilltles
The members of the Charity must prepare financial statements which give sufficient delail to
enable an appreciahon of the transactions of the Charity during the financial year. The
members of the Charity are responsible forkeeping proper accounting rècords which. on
request, must reflectthe financial position ofthe Charity at that time. Thi5 must be done to
ensure Ihatthe finan￿al statements complywrth the Charities and Trustee Investrnent
(Scotfand) Act 2005, the Charities Accou nts (Scotland) Regulatsons 2QO6.
They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the ChaFity and must take
asonable steps for the prevention andlordetection of fraud and other iNegularibes.

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparabon of the accounts in accordan￿ with
the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scoland} 2005 Actand the Charities
Accounts (Scoland) Regulatbons 2006. The chanty trustees consid8rthatthe audil
requirementof Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my
responsibility to exarrine the accounts as required under seclion 44(1) (c) of the Act and to
state whelherparticular matters have come to my attenb'on.
Basls of Indopendont examlnefs siatement
My exanlnation is carried out in accordance with Regulaiion 11 of the Charitses Accounts
(Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examinalion includes a review of the accounting records
kept by the charity and a comparison ofthe accounts PTesented with those records. It also
includes consideration of any unusual items ordisclosure5 in the accounts and seeks
explanatsonsfromthe trustses Gon￿MIng any such matters. The procèdures undertaken do
notprovide all the evidence thatwould be requited in an audit and, consequently. I do not
express an audit opinion on the accounts.

The charity's Iruslees are responsible for the preparation of the accounls in accordance with
the terms of the Charities and Truslee Inveslmenl {Scollandl 20Q5 Acl and the Charities
Accounts IS¢otland} Regulations 2006. The chafily Iruslees consider Ihal the audit
requirement of Regulation 10{11 (dl of the Accounts Regulations does not apply 11 Is my

slate whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's staiement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts
(Scoilandl Regulations 2006 An examination includes a review of the accounting records
kept by the charily and a comparison of the accounts presented with Ihose records. 11 also
includes consideration ol any unusual items or disclosures in the accounls and seeks
explanations from the Iruslees concerning any such mallers. The procedures undertaken do
