The original purpose is still valid and that was to demonstrate and publicise the importance of the West Highland Galley to The Hebrides and the West of Scotland. Galleys were a development from existing Viking ships. They became the sole method of transport both in peace and war, and it would have been difficult for Islanders to survive without them. For over 30 years, the galley sailed around Britain visiting boat shows hosting schools visits and appearing in historical TV programmes. MCA regulations made it impossible to continue and she has been retired to the museum. We shall still continue the work from South Uist.
Objectives: The advancement of education. The advancement of health. The advancement of arts, heritage, culture, or science. Analogous Purposes.
