Constitution
The Jack Kane Centre Community Wing is a registered Scottish Unincorporated Association wilh
Chartable Status and is governed by Ihe Centre's conslitution.
Appointment of Trustees (Committee Members)
Our charily aims to recruit new members with specific skills from our conlaGt wilh th8 communily and
agencies with objects of similar nalure. eilher within or out wilh our area of operation, and whose co-
operalion will further the objectives of the Cenlre. to this end additional trustees may be ccFopteiJ during
the year. New trustees are provlded with an induction training package and ongolng support while
carrying out their duties. Members meet monlhly wilh elections being held annually through the
Charities AGM. Following Ihe AGM. Ihe managemenl committee appoinl from ils members office
bearers.
Management
The members are responsible for the governance of the charily ak)ngside Ihe strategic direction and
make all decisions regarding Ihe Centres activities, where appropriate. members delegale aulhority of
day-lo-day operaiions to the relevant staff members. Al all limes, Members seek to fulfil the
requirements of charity law. employer's duties and external funders, criteria whilst satisfying the
dernands from the local community for the delivery of services. The trustees understand their duty to
idenllfy, review and act on any risks to whlch the charily maybe exposed to and ensures that approprlate
eonlrols are in place. Risk is assessed on all aspects of the organisation from human resources.

The Community Wing was opened in the early 1970s and is situated within Ihe Greatar Craigmillar
area in North East Edinburgh. an area of social deprivation.
The objectlves of the charily are:
To advance education Ihrough Ihe provisron of a range of training and learning opporlunilies to
people of all 8g8s residing within Ihe area of operation (the 'beneficiaries');
To provide social. recreational facilities and organise educational aclivities for the beneficiarie5
with the aim of improving their conditions of life-,
To advance cllizenship and promole volunteering among the beneficiaries through th6 provision
of opportunities for people lo take an active part in the Civic life of Iheir communities.
In seeking to implement Ihese objectives, the Centre has the following aims:
Deliver quality educational provision for people in the Greater Craigmillar area and oullying areas;
Continue to deliver educational seTvices in environments which encourage and motivate people:
Priorilise work wilh people who may be curf8nlly exduded or who do no( ulilise existing mainstream
services.,
Develop volunteerlng opportunities for individuals:
Provide a platform for people to participate alongside other patlners and agencies in Lqckling local
and glob81 challenges;
Build positive working relationships wilh existing service providers to enhance their abllity to WOTk
more effectively with people.

This year has been truly exceptional for our cenlre and its aclivities. Together. we have secured
external funding. expanded our slaff team. and welcomed new volunteers. all while delivering inspiring
and memorable experiences. What makes our success unique is our recognilion that a communlty
cenlre is more Ihan just a building: it comes alive Ihrough the drive. delermination. and commitmenl of
the people who shape it. Thanks lo Iheir efforts, our Centre continues to thrive as a plac8 of conneclion
and a hub for positive enga9emenl.
By co-producing and shaping evolving pathways for children. young people. and their families, we have
built a proven track record of delivering life-changing, developmentally appropriate experiences tailored
to every age and stage. Our cenlre provtdes dynamic and adaptable educational interventions Ihat
equip individuals with the tools and SUPPDrt they need to thrive. These opportunities create a lasting
positive impact not only for individuals and groups, bul also for the communily and wrder society.
Despile operating in a challenging environment. th& Jack Kane Community Centre (JKCC) has
continued to achleve remarkable Suc￿ss. shaped and strengthened by lived experlences. This year
we have harnessed the talents, expertise, and drive ol our team to conlinue to expand and enrich our
acts'vities. We continue to play a significant role in engaging With and improving oulcomes for children.
young people, and their families. Guided by our committee's ambilions, we are commilted lo tackling
poverty, preventing negative health and well-being experiences, and ensuring equity of opportunity for
people of all agés.

The work carried oul within this organisation does not only occur within Ihe confines of Ihe brick and
mortar, neither does it solely occui in period's wliich are covered by fuiiding or 'terms'. Learning and
development is an airn for the organisation which occurs al every opportunity, every engagemenl,
every planning session and every conversation. These opportunities lake place within the building, on
Ihe streets of Greater Ciaigmillar and in the locations of everyday life lor the coinmunity. Due to Ihis,

Glrls Group Fundraiser..
Youth led projects is whal we do at the Jack Kane Community Centre, the Girls Group is a sliining
example of how by working logelher through Iheir hard work and delerminalion Ihey planned, raised
funds and saw their initial ideas turn into reality. The gioup Idenlified that they woiild benefit from an
excursion wliich would solidify Ihe group and allow some participants lo leave Scotland for Ihe firsl
lime in Iheir lives. They set of planning as lo how they could achieve this, Iising funds raised by
themselves to cover the cost of the excursion. The girls worked tirelessly in raising these funds
through a multilude of diffcronl avenue5. Alongside the management commillee's gener051ty in
matching the funds raised, the girls sel of on the expedilion in June and on relurn. reported Ihe pride
in their achlevemenls and the ways in which the efforts had forged relalionships whilst bringing the
group closer together.

Bonfire night session and street-based servlce:
The 5111 of November is a magical time of year lor some. bul for others there is an increased
requireinent for supporl and safety. The Jack Kane Comrnunity Centre are there to provide this
supporl and safety for Ihe individuals who require Ihis. In order to do Ihis. we ran an extensive. street
and centre-based programme in the lead up, the day of and the days following the 5111 of November.
This resulted in 19 sessions implemented with 212 individuals receiving a variety of silPPOrt from staff
williin the building and on Ihe slreels of Niddrie and Craigmillar. These sessions explored topics Ihal
were impoflanl lo young people which resulled in topics such as children's rights, policing, inequalily
and the cl)oices wilhin Ihe law.

some lamilies and individuals. The Jaorf Kane Community Centre ¥vere inundated wilh request for
support ffom familie5 Ihroughout the month ot December which exposed a need for ceriain members
of our communily. Not only ivere individuals requesting support foi gifts loi Iheii r.hildren due to
poveriij and the Idck of finances. bul they were also requesting food to be provided over this per￿d.
TheTefore, the oiganisalion decided lo pul logelher food hampers for Individuals in orde.r lo ease this
pressure al Ihis lime of year. Jhis food supporl wilnessed li5 Individuals ieceiving food deliveries over
Ihe course of DeLember wilh a further 113 indivNJuals receiving support towards gilts for Iheir children
dnd yOLiiig people.
