It is based on "Quaker Faith and Prartice-, the Book of Christian Discipline the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Britain. Trustees have been appointed in accordance with the provisions of t governing document which provides for the Trustees representation fro each Local Meeting.
East Scotland Area Meeting is a constituent part of Britaln Yearly Meeti (BYM) of The Religious Society of Frlends, which is the governing body the Society in Britain. The Area Meeting is the basic business unit of t Society and within It are Local Meetings. Providing for the pastoral care of individual members and attenders including assistance to those in need and for educatipn. Area Meetlng: Area Meeting met four times in 2024. Our meetings Included regular updates from our representatives o Parliamentary Engagement Working Group and from Meeting for Sufferings. Quakers in Scotland are moving towards a different st and, as a result of this, much of our business this year was concer with supporting and responding to those tasked with managing thi change, including how to manage our own affairs while the chang ongoing. ESAM sponsors and provldes financial support for members to attthd Quaker events and courses for the deepening of Individual and coll ctlve spiritual understanding and to keep in touch with developments wi hln the Religious Society of Friends. We continue to provide financial support each year to the Northe Fi lends Youth Events Trust, to Northern Fi ieiids Peace Board and t General Meeting for Scotland, the quarterly meetings of which hav attended by members from our area meeting. the cture ed is been Actlvlties of Local Quaker Meetlngs durlnq 2024 Dundee Local Meetinq: Dundee Quaker Meeting continues a cautious but steady growth sithce the end of the COVID pandemic and the return to our refurbished Mee ing House. There is a Meeting for Worship each Sunday and a blended Meetin the first Sunday of the month. We also have a shared lunch on th Sunday of the month which is proving very popular and Is a sourc wonderful fellowship. Dundee Meeting has been welcoming a growing number of visitors Including several young people Interested in Quakerism. Our Discussion group continues after Meeting for Worship once a The organisatlon and general life of the Meeting is supported by th Elders, four Pastoral Friends and a joint Admin/Clerking team. The Light Group, wihi Includes Friends from other meetings, meets on one Sunday a mont We have held four all-age meetings for worship on five Sunday mont 'Being Friends Together, is an initiative from the Pastoral Care and Eldership team in Perth to help Friends to get to know one another b and so build our community. We have been holding short discussions after Meetlng for Worshlp whlch have been well-attended. In August organised a Wltness for Peace at the Peace Pole in Rodney gardens a shared readings. stories, prayers and songs with members of other churches. tter we St Andrnws Local Meets"ng.' Meeting for Worship continued throughout the year in which several vlsltors attended and often returned. Our children's number has dlmlnlshed but older chlldren have graduated to national Young Quak attivities. The Midweek Meeting offers an opportunlty for students to attend and those wlth other weekend commitments. Organlsed discusslons over the year ranged from speclflc Quaker Issu conslderation of world events. As a witness to our Peace Testlmony, early November we Y4ere able to distribute white poppies in the town centre whlch attratted conslderable interest. Several members were actively invovled in exploring the possibility of change within the Sco Quaker communlty towards greater simplicity and sustainability of ou Quaker structure. sto Ish The Meetlng house contlnues to make space avallable to other organisations compatible with Quaker values. At t year end, Area Meeting itself held £8925. There is uncertalnty of the costs involved as Quakers in Scotland wo towards creating a single Quaker SCIO in Scotland.
