St Maelrubha's Scottish E isco al Church Poolewe Report of the Vestry for the year ended 30th September 2024 The members of the Vestry present their annual report together with the financial statements for the year ended 30th September 2024. Structure and Governance In terms of the Charities and Trustee Irwestment Iscotlandl Act 21x15 and the Chanties Accounts Iscotlandl Regulations 2006, the Vestry reports as follows: l. St Maelrubha's Scottish Episcopal Church, Poolewe is a regtstered Scottish Charity ISC0203891. 2. It is a member of the Diocese of Moray. Ross and Caithness of the Scottish Episcopal Church and is in full communion with the Anglican Church. 3. The superior authority 15 the Bishop of Moray, Ross & Caithness 4. All of its affairs are governed by the Vestry. Appointment of Vestry Members Vestry members are elected or appointed by the AGM established by constitution and under Canon Law of the Scottish Episcopal Church. There is no formal induction programme but on- going guidance is given to ensure that Vestry members are familiar with the Church's values, aims and responsibilities as the designated trustee5 of a charity. Statement of Risk The Vestry keeps under review the major risks to which the Church is exposed and has established procedures to mitigate any risks identified. Charitable Objectives & Activities The Church's printipal activities include public worship in sacrament and prayer, Christian education, charitable work and fund raising for local. national and international needs. social meetings. predominantly the youth and elderly and community groups of all ages and outreach to the many visitors to the area during summer months. Voluntee The Vestry Is grateful for all the time freely given by volunteer5. Without whom many of the activitie5 would be unable to operate. Achievements and Performance The Church continues to make r(s facilities available for use and to provide worship for the whole community. Financial Review The accounts show a deficit for the year of £3.41812023= surplus £6,135). Letting of Church HoLtse was again popular and income frorn this source increased when compared to last year. Signtficant maintenance expenses were incurred during the year in replacing some windows and doors to the Church Hall and Church House, plu5 painting and fencing arountl the Church grounds. Replacements and repairs to some furnishings and fittings were also required. After the slight reduttion in last year's utility costs for the Church and Church House, these costs again increased. Cleaning costs for Church House increased as charges were not previously made for the time to do this. The accounts show that total receipts have increased to £25,10312023.' £20,869) and total expenditure increased to £28,52112023-. St Maelrubha's Scottish E isco al Church Poolewe Reserves The Vestry has adopted a policy of trying to maintain a level of unrestrirted reseryes such that, in the event of a Significant drop in income. the Church would be able to maintain its current level of activities for a reasonable period until replacement funding is obtained. As of at 30 September 2024 the charity held reserves of £17.749 in the bank and a unit trust investment with 3 market value of £13,941. The charity has sufficient reserves to cpntinue to operate forthe foreseeable future. SL*emefit of the Vestry Mernber's Responsibilities The members of the Vestry must prepare financial statements which give sufficient detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Church during the financial year. The members of the Vestry are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which, on request, must refiett the current financial position of the Church at that time. This must be done to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities and Investment (Scotlandl act 2005 and Charities Accounts (Scotlandl regulations 2(K)6. They are al￿ responsible for safeguarding the assets of the ChtJr¢h and must take reasonable steps for the prevention andlor detertion of fraud and other irregularities. Independent Examinerfs report to trustees I report on the accounts of the Charity for the year ended 30th September 2024 as set out in pages 6 to 8. The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 21X)5 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland} Regulations 2006. The charity trustees considerthat the audit requirement of Regulation 1011) {d} of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) Ic) of the Art and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters.
