The SCDA25 Expenditure of £80.00 was entry fees for the One Act Play Festival 2025. **3.** The Summer Production 2024 yielded a small profit of £210.61 (Income of £2,247.62 less Expenditure of £2,037.01). **4.** The Panto23 Expenditure of £2108.75 was for the hire of Stonehaven Town Hall which was invoiced in March2024. The 2024 Panto, “Rapunzel”, shows a profit of £13,939.99 (Income of £24,040.08 less Expenditure of £10,100.09) as at the end of year accounts but does not include the Hire of the Town Hall. The invoices for rehearsals in September, October, November (total of£250.32) and the week of the performance (£2,070.36) totalling £2,320.68 were received in March 2025, which does not appear in this year’s accounts, therefore our nett profit was in fact £11,619.31. **5.** We had 56 Members join last year, generating a Subscription Income of £560. **6.** of The Donations Income totalling £450 was a total of two donations: £350 from the Market Bar and £100 from the Stonehaven Lions Club. **7.** The Subscriptions and Donations Expenditure totalling £330 includes our Annual Memberships to NODA of £200 and SCDA of £50. We also paid a Subscription of £30 to Edinburgh Printmakers for a new Storage Space in Aberdeen and a Donation of £50 to - , a former Ury Player member for a Reunion of the cast of The Sound - of Music, which involved several of our present members. **8.** The Social Expenditure of £51.82 was for items for the Bingo Social after the 2024 AGM. **9.** The Rent Expenditure totalling £2,160 was for our two storage facilities. **10.** Insurance Expenditure of £496.31 was for the Annual renewal of our NODA Insurance. **Treasurer’s Report Annual General Meeting** **2025** **11.** The Bursary Expenditure figure of £369.80 was paid for Olivia Barrow to attend the Summer School at The Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow. **12.** Administration Expenditure totalling £269.74 included £13.99 for the GoDaddy Domain, **13.** Equipment Expenditure totalling £2,335.96 included £2,299 for a new Lighting Board, - £16.98 for a First Aid Kit (a requirement needed for the new Storage Space) and £19.98 for new Cables. **14.** use. **15.** “Sold Out” Panto which was an outstanding achievement by all our members and crew of helpers. The Club is in a very healthy financial position. ## **URY PLAYERS – CHAIR’S REPORT 2025** As I look back over the past year, 2024 to 2025 has been another successful year for the Club. Last year I compared my Chair’s Report to giving War and Peace a run for its money, as it was a slightly hefty five-page, 2,031-word report. Since the club has gotten up to so much more since my last Chair’s Report, this one is slightly longer and comparable to “A Suitable Boy” by Don’t worry, I have a couple more years’ worth of books to compare my Report length to! That being said, please stick with me while I report on the key events, in chronological order, from the last AGM in 2024… ## **JUN 2024: SUMMER PRODUCTION** Mid-June saw the Club resurrect our annual Summer Production, which had been put on hiatus since 2019 when we last performed “DIRTY DUSTING”. Why it was on hiatus… was anybody’s guess?! The Summer Production was entitled “Summer Showcase” and was a double-header of One Act Plays. The first play on each evening was “THE SHOP” by , which was the One Act Play that the Club had entered into the Scottish Community Drama Association’s One Act Play Festival earlier in the year. This was then followed by “KEEPING MUM” by . The Town Hall was setup with Cabaret Style seating, which allowed the audience to bring along their own refreshments to consume while enjoying the evenings performances. The Club enjoys setting up the Summer Production with this style of seating, as it brings a different atmosphere to the evening. This was evident during each performance, as there was a very noticeable buzz pre-show and during the interval. Thank you to everyone involved both onstage and backstage who devoted their time and effort to our first Summer Production in 5 years. ## **JUL-AUG 2024: SPOND, KARAOKE SOCIAL NIGHT & SEASON LAUNCH** Our primary means of communicating to our Members about general club information is via email. Up until now, we then used private Facebook Groups, as the secondary communications platform when putting on our productions to share important files and information. Towards the end of July saw the Club adopt a new communications platform called Spond. Spond is a free application and a club management solution designed to simplify the organisation of teams, clubs and groups. The application is primarily accessed via mobile devices, but it can also be accessed via theweb. To accessthe application, membersonly require either a mobile phone number or an email address. This allowed us to reach the vast majority of, if not all, members of the Club. It still allows us to share important information and files to our members, like we used to with Facebook, but it also has other features to allow directors to monitor attendance, as well as allowing Members to sync events to their calendars automatically. Rest assured though, we will still be using email to communicate with our Members in conjunction with Spond. One of the first eventsthat was arranged through Spond, was a Karaoke Social Night to Bardot's in Aberdeen at the start of August. Those that attended had a great evening socialising with one another and singing to their hearts content. I can't recall all that was sang that evening, but no doubt sang "Dignity" and serenaded with "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys which has become a custom... Tell me why?! Mid-August saw us host our 2024125 Season Launch in the Upper Town Hall. The turn-out was excellentwith familiarfaces returning and quite an abundance of newones. so much so,we had to bring out more chairs and almost filled the entire room! I led the evening covering the normal bases.. Introducing the Committee, Season Timeline, Membership Information, and discussing our new Communication Platform - Spond. Once this was out of the way, I then passed over the reins for the rest of the evening to the Director of the 2024 Pantomime. our first production of the Season. I'll giveyou two guesses as to who thisyear's Pantomime was written and to be directed by... announced that the Pantomime was his adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairytale"RAPUNZEL" Within a week of the Season Launch auditionswere held and the Pantomime was cast. Thisyear we decided to use Fetteresso Church as one of our rehearsal venues, with the other being the Upper Town Hall. OCT-SEP 202&" MAKE-UP WORKSHOP & MD ASSISTANCE In mid-october the Club invited and make-up specialist from Utopia Costumes to run a Make-up Workshop in the Upper Town Hall for our Members. We have had workshops with them in the past and is an incredible make-up artist. Those that were able to attend had a fantastic afteinoon and were able to learn some make-up techniques that they could apply to future productions. Thank you to from Utopia Costumes and to Committee Member fortaking lead on contacting Utopia Costumes and arranging a date for the workshop. The first two Sunday Pantomime Chorus rehearsals of September saw the club seek the assistance of a local MD (Musical Director), to help and the Chorus with the opening song of the Pantomime, Queen's'somebody To Love" no easy featl Both the Chorus were keen, focused and up to the task. The two rehearsals with received and produced a fantastic opening number. I wonder how much attention our Director was paying to instructions, as little did he know, this would come in handy later... and were well DEC 2024: RAPUNZEL PANTOMIME Stonehaven Town Hall stage was still in the same state of disrepair as it was lastyear. That being said, we'd done it once, we could do it againl The Production Team and Cast overcame the obstacles and, after months of hard work and dedication, it was once again time to present Pantomime, "FIAPUNZEL" to the community of Stonehaven. Ury Players were proud to produce and perform "RAPUNZEL" to the local Stonehaven Community. We followed our usual format of 5 public performances and an invitation-only Flelaxed Performance during our final Dress Rehearsal. To use a golf analogy, lastyear Heather's "JACK AND THE BEANSTALK" was an absolute eagle. The run consisted of 3 sell-out performances and only had 3 tickets left across the 2 remaining available performances, equating to a staggering 99.8¥0 of sellable seats sold. This outcome was a very high bar to reach going forward, and I think would be happy with matching, if not surpassing, his first Pantomimes performance of 2 sell-out performances and 95.6% of sellable seats sold. Well, l am extremely glad to say that achieved more than a par performance but managed to bag himself an albatross and perhaps a Club first (forgive me if l am wrongl, a complete sell-out run! Congratulations to Tim and all those involved both onstage and backstage. Everyone should be immensely proud of this fantastic achievement. There was also another Pantomime first, at least from my memory of being a Member of the Club, unfortunately one we didn't want to ever happen. Unfortunately, due to coming down with a suspected virus, was unable to perform on Friday evening and had to step into a pretty big crown, so to speak, and take on the principal role of King Duncan at very short notice. For those of you I haven't caused to fall asleep yet, you'll remember form earlier that not onlydid this involve learning all of lines and movements but also dawning the walking- stick-microphone and belting out Queen's "Somebody to Love'l Although l joked at the time that surely it would be easy for to take on the role considering he wrote and directed the whole show, I know it isn't as simple as that, especially when you don't expect it to happen. Although was feeling better the following morning, the Committee took the difficult decision to request that continue to isolate for the recommended time, which unfortunately meant that he would miss the remaining two performances. As mentioned, this was not an easy decision for the Committee to make, but we made the decision we did to keep other Club Members and the General Public safe. dawned the crown for the final performances and absolutely smashed it. I was proud to witness how fellow cast and crew rallied to support with line run-throughs and then congratulating him after the Friday walkdown and again on the Saturday. A true testament to how Ury Players is like a family and Members are there to support one another. Thank you again to all of those involved for producing, yet another, amazing Pantomime! ## **FEB 2025: PANTO VIEWING & SCDA ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL DISTRICT ROUND** At the start of February, the Club hired the Stonehaven Recreational Grounds function room for our annual Panto Viewing evening. It is always a fun evening enjoying one another’s company while we watch back all our hard work and dedication, while having some refreshments and catching up after the New Year. Late-February saw the Club participate in the Scottish Community Drama Association Festival of One Act Plays. This year we had 2 Teams entering the Festival, 1 Adult and 1 Youth. Once again, was directing a Team of 9 budding and enthusiastic youthful actors. The Adult Team, which consisted of 10 equally budding, enthusiastic and (not as) youthful actors. Directing this Team was a familiar face, but one that hasn’t directed with Ury Players before, . The District Round of the Festival consisted of 6 plays (presented by 5 Clubs) and spanned across 2 nights at Culter Village Hall. Ury Players (Adults) closed the first night with “CASTING OFF” by . Ury Players (Youth) presented “WHICH WITCH?” by to open the final night of the Festival. Both nights were close to capacity, with a considerable amount of the crowd consisting of Ury Players supporters. The standard of performances from both our Teams and the other participating clubs was very high this year. Ury Players (Adults) scored a respectable 77/100 points but were pipped at the post for 3[rd] place by 1 point by Ury Players (Youth). The Youth Team were awarded 3 trophies: Third Place, Youth Winner, and Best Team from Kincardineshire and Deeside. This meant that not only were the Youth Team on their way to represent Aberdeen District at the Youth Divisional Final in Brechin but were also joining Bon Accord Players and Amici at the Open Divisional Final in Birnam. ## **MAR 2025 – SCDA ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL DIVISIONAL FINALS (OPEN & YOUTH)** Mid-March saw the Ury Players (Youth) Team travel to Brechin to compete in the Divisional Youth Final of the Festival. This round of the competition consisted of Ury Players Youth representing Aberdeen District, along with the winning Youth Team from Orkney and Perthshire. The standard of performance from all 3 Youth Teams was very high, with only 5 points separating 1[st] and 3[rd] . The adjudicator, , wrote that it was “A fun and enjoyable production of a play which the cast were clearly enjoying performing. The audience’s enjoyment was clear to see.”. Myself and a few other Members travelled down to watch, and we were very proud of our Youth Team and their performance. The Youth Team also won the Morton Cup for Best Moment of Theatre for how the Team opened the play with the set in silhouette. Despite winning this trophy, unfortunately, they didn’t progress to the Scottish Youth Final. Two weeks later Ury Players (Youth) travelled down to Birnam (Perthshire), in the last week of March, to compete at the Divisional Open Final of the Festival, with a twist… Due to a prior commitment and a last-minute illness, two of our Youth Team were unable to perform. Although this was a Youth Team performing in the Open section of the Festival, there were no restrictions on who could be recast in these roles. Therefore, stepped up to the plate and performed with the other Youth Members. The Divisional Final consists of 9 Teams, 3 from each District; Aberdeen, Orkney and Perthshire, with all other Teams, bar one, consisting of adults. One of the Team’s representing Perthshire was Curtains Up, who we had met two weeks earlier in Brechin. There were a few other Ury Players who had travelled to Birnam to assist and watch our Youth Team perform. Personally, this was the Youth Teams best performance to date, which then later showed in the marking, where they had closed the gap to Curtains Up from when they last met. The adjudicator for this round, wrote that “Overall this was an entertaining piece of theatre.”, while also praising each individual actor. Although this was where the journey ended, all those involved did themselves and the Club very proud. ## **APR 2025: TOWN HALL NEW EQUIPMENT TOUR** Lastly, in April some representatives from the Club met at Stonehaven Town Hall to meet with a few people involved in upgrading aspects of the Town Hall stage. In summary some new lights and new lighting bars have been installed, along with several new curtains. While the stage might not be perfect, or a mirror of what we used to have before, it is better than the past couple of years. IN SUMMARY AND A LOOK TO THE FUTURE... You will be glad to hear that this is the penultimate section to my Chair's Fleport. As we looktothe future the last production to round out the 2024125 Season will be our Summer Production, which this year is "FAifiwAY TO HEAVEN" by Tickets are currently available by either contacting myself or via Ticketsource. We've had a lovely email from the late wishing the Club every success with our production of one of his favourite plays that she wrote. Once the Summer Production brings a conclusion to our usual productions over a Season, we will be looking forward to hosting our 2025126 Season Launch night where the Club will also be introducing a new Membership Charter. To streamline the Membership process, we will be sending out Membership Renewal letters and forms to existing Members ahead of our Season Launch. This year for the 2025126 Season Launch, we are going to request that those who wish to attend to'purchase. a FfiEE passvia Ticketsource. Thiswill allow us to know how many seats we will require ahead of time, as well as capture some important information to, again, streamline Membership onboarding. The Committee are attempting to organise a Summer BBQ Social Evening. Once we have confirmed a date and time, this will be communicated to Members of the Club.
