Scottish Charity Number: SCO18585

The Scout Hall Playgroup (Westhill)

Trustees' Report for the year ended 31st July 2025

Charitable Objectives

The aim of this group is to provide Early Learning and Childcare opportunities for children in the local community. The service builds on the valuable learning that takes place in and around the home helping develop skills that the children will rely on in later life. This is mainly achieved through the provision of carefully planned play experiences, delivered in a nurturing, inclusive environment whilst following Scottish Government documents such as the Prebirth to Three guidance and Curriculum for Excellence. The group seeks to encourage charitable activities through which the parents can support the development of their children.

The group provides accommodation and equipment, employs play practitioners to lead the activities, pays for resources, fixes and collects fees and liaises with other bodies as required. The Trustees and Playgroup Manager are directly concerned with the employment and appraisal of all staff. In essence the group undertakes any activity necessary or desirable to enable the group to achieve its objectives.

The group has continued its membership of the Early Years Scotland, accepted its aims and paid appropriate subscription, and arranged all relevant and necessary insurances through this membership.

Fundraising continues to be challenging but the playgroup raised £12,122 (2024: £18,245) from a variety of fundraising activities (net of expenses) including donations of £5,840 (2024: £4,100). There were a number of successful activities throughout the year including a raffle £1,230 (2024:nil), Halloween party and activities £910 (2024:£2,253), Sponsored circuits £872 (2024:nil) and Christmas raffle and activities £1,071 (2024:303). A parent again kindly chose the playgroup to receive her sponsorship for taking part in the Kilt Walk and raised £1,111 (2024: £2,013).

The Redundancy Reserve account (deposit bank account) with interest applied now stands at £10,807 (2024: £10,670).

As at 31st July 2025 the Charity's reserves stand at £16,576 (2024: £17,583), retaining sufficient funds to allow the Playgroup to continue to operate at current subscription levels and allow for planned staff cost increases.
