Structure, Governance and Management
Governing Document
The Association is a charitable unincorporated association and the purposes and arrangements are set out in its constitution
Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees
All of the Association’s trustees are appointed or reappointed by the members at the A.G.M, which is held in March each year.
Objectives and Activities
As recorded in the constitution.
Achievements and Performance
The Community Hall premises continue to be used by a wide range of groups throughout the week, with all year-round use. Both main halls are well used. Groups include, the Badminton Club, Dunvegan Community Council, Dunvegan Community Trust, Dunvegan Media and Culture Club, Yoga classes, a Samba Drumming Class, Boys Brigade, Exercise Classes, Dunvegan Board Games Club, a Pickleball Club, AA and several other Community bodies hold meetings. The Joint Churches hold a service a number of times a year. Various local groups use on an “ad hoc” basis to run a fundraising activity, such as “Soup and Pudding” lunches and Dances.
We run two Quizzes each year, which are well supported. There were several concerts and ceilidhs held by SEALL and BLAS and others. We have a Barber in for an afternoon every second Tuesday. We have an annual “Christmas Fayre” run by various local groups.
The replacement of windows and external doors has definitely made a difference to comfort and energy saving in the facilities.
The halogen and fluorescent batten ceiling lights in the two main halls will be replaced with LED units over the summer.
Various painting tasks were carried out. The entrance porch roof was replaced and some harling re-done on it too. The gutters, downpipes and drains, and also the valley between the roofs were cleaned by a professional operator.
Funding has been awarded for the replacement of the Sports Hall roof, and it is anticipated that this will be done in July.
Matters in relation to the claim against Mckay Flooring Limited to repair the faults to the flooring in the sports have been settled by the liquidators. The payout was very small in relation to the sum awarded by the Courts.
New trustees, Martina Tennant, Joan MacDonald and Steven Moran, all Dunvegan, joined the Management Committee on 15th April.
The MacLeod Parliament and Gathering will take place during the first week in August. They will use the whole hall facilities for this.

Financial Review
The charity achieved a surplus for the year under review totaling £4,420 (2025 (£5,107)). The level of unrestricted funds held as at 31 January 2026 was £15,260 (2025 £10,840).
Reserves Policy
The Board of Trustees has adopted a reserves policy which ensures the charity’s continuing ability to meet its objectives.

Report of the Independent Examiner
I report on the financial statements of the Dunvegan Community Hall Association for the year ended 31 January 2026 as set out on pages 4 to 8.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and independent examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity’s trustees consider that the audit requirement of regulations 10(1)(d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.
It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express and audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner’s statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
have not been met, or
- to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

b) No expenses were paid to trustees during the year to 31 January 2026. During the previous year one trustees had expenses totaling £409 re-imbursed for the purchase of Christmas lights made on behalf of the charity.
