Cults Parlsh Church of Scotland Trustees, Report Year ended 31 December 2024 The trustee5 present their annual report and financial ststernents of the charity for the year ended 31 December2024. Objectlves and Actlvltles The Church of Scotland is Trinitarian in doctrine. Refomied in tradition and Presbyterian in polity. It exists to glorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. As n•tional Church, it ècknowledges a distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinance5 Qf rell8ion to the people In every parlsh of Scotland through a territorial ministry. It Coperate5 With other Churches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond. In Cults Parish Church. services of worship are conducted on a Sunday at 10.30 am wlth addltional evening gatherings at 6.CK) prn over the winter months. This year we have been triallinq a new way of doing this, with an onlineversion and the opportunityto gather together. All services are live-streamed and available for catch-up on the Cults Parish Church YouTube channel. There is a Sunday xlK>oI (JAM - Jesus & Mel durin8 term time and while the creche is not currently bperational we have created a welcoming space for youn8 families at the back of the church. Provision for the young also includes School Chaplaincy atthe local primary and secondary schools, plu5 an after- school club in the Kirk Centre each Friday during term time. Pastoral visiting is carrled out by the minister and elder5. The minister. along with member5 who have undertaken Worship Leading trainin& conduct monthly services at Tor-na-Dee Care Home. Deeside Care Home. Florence Court (private sheltered hou5inq) and H•wkhill House Nursing Home on • monthly basls. The Care Group focuses on the elderly and visits many of those who live alone and assists where necessary with activiti•s such •$ shoppiw. For thos• who •r• •bl to g•t out •nd IUt, th•r• is •n 050 group and a coffee shop within the Cults Kirk Centre, a5 well as monthly 'Musical Memories., a slnging 8roup to support people with dementii and their carers, family. and friends. W+de use is made of am ow buildin85 by ourchurch organisations Such as the Guild. Cholr, Badminton Group, and community 8roups Such as Mothers and Toddlers. danting. yoga. baby rnassage, youth or8anisations etc. Cults Parish Church is willing to engage with the need5 of the world beyond the boundaries of the parish by extending the outreach of the Churth of Scotland both in the UK and abroad. The Church support5 Christian Aid and other local and national charities. A Justice and Peace group raises •wareness of the Christian dimension to contemporary issues.
Achlevements and PerforniarKe A5 at the 31" Dtcember 2024 there were 552 mernbers on the Congre8ational Roll with an additiona 15 adherents. In 2024 there was I baptism. and there were 10 weddings and 24 funerals. The life of Cults Parish Church is charncterised by an energy and enthusiasm which enables • wide variety of artivities to tske place and ensures that our buildings and resources are well looked after. This means that in addition to maintsining e$tIng groups we can •150 look to do new things. The Church continues to make a warm. inclusive. and imaginative contribution to its community:. Our Hub Cafe Is open three days per week. courtesy of a team of volunteers. It is a popular meetlng place for all ages and when possible donations are rnade from surplus funds to local, national, and international charities. A monthly'men's Breakfasf was estsblished by our familiarisation rninister and has bteome a regular event each month. The "Summer Strawberry Teas" are extremely popular, and we See them as helpin8 to establish the Kirk Centre as a focal point and meeting place in our community - for member$ and non-members as well as raising much needed funds fof local charities. Our annual Christmas Tree Festival created 50rne •r1e both OUtse and Inslde the church. Trees were decorated by a number of school classes and other children and youth groups from across the parish. Our Fairtrade team Continue to raise the profile of fair-trade rnainly through an honesty stall which is set up permanently in the Kirk Centre. We contrnue to Work closely wtth ecufftenic•l partners t)ther k1 Church of Scotland Congregation5. The P•rish Grouping is now well estsblished with a number of events helping to brin8 four nel8hbourin8 churches together. Newsletters are sent to members. adherents •nd those who have requested to be on our mailing list. This proves invaluable in keeping people infomed about what is happenin8 Within the church and community. The magazine is now iued three to four times a year. The church has Vrked wtth the local Cornmunlty Councll to provlde support for those In our community. The church continues to support Christian Aid, throu8h a number of activities. The Aberdeen C<mrt Band have made their Imxne at Cults Parish Church, and we continue to build a good relationship with them and inte8rate them into the lrfe of our church through concefts and Contributions to morning worship. Christma5 Saw the church busywith our special services throughout December and particularly on Christmas Eve being well attended by Members of the community. We also hosted a suttessful Sants's Grotto organized by the Youth CoreGroup. Hnandal Revlew Totsl income for the year amounted to £275,(KKI. a decrease of £17.IJX)12023: £292,000). This current yearf5 0fferin8s linclu(ting gfft aid recovery) of E125,LHJO were £2,OCK) above the 2023 offerings of £123,(. However, there were no legacies in 2024 {2023.' £38.()). The 2024 ¢ontributions from congregational organisations of £8.OCK) were £l.CKK) above 2023. The hall & room
rentals income of £53,{xI in 2024 was an increase of £8,1XK)12023: £45.ThX)I, the income generated by the church's organisations increased to £71,(MX) 12023: £63,OLKII and other income (including weddings and funeralsl rose to £IO,(KM]12023: £9.(MJ)). The deposit interest in 2024 of £8.0fy) was an increase of £l.OCiI12023: £7.IJx)i. Total expenditure for the period amounted to £312.(MIO, an increase of £42,OCKJ from 2023 expenditures of £270,CKX). The rnain unrestricted fund spend increases in 2024 included the increased spend of £I5,c on the building operating costs refierting higher energy and contract cleanin8 Costs. There was an increase of £6.CW in the Giving to GfQW contribut•on, Presbytery dues were £l,OCKI higher, the Church's organisations expenditures increased by £IO.OCQ together with higher depreclation charges of £5.(m and an increase of £5.1MX) in other expenses. The annual deficit of £36.(MX) in 2024 compares with the surplus of £22,(KMI in 2023 and reflects the challenqes and significant cost pressures being faced going forwards. Rlsk M•n•8ement The Trustees, strategies are largely based on the expansion of youth, family. and community activitie$ and to make most effective use of both the Sanrtuary and Klrk Centre sltes wtth weight bein8 given to outreach and financial considerations. Outreach to the younger elernents of our parish is considered crucial to the medium and long term welfare of our Chur¢h life. the Trustees being particularly conKious of the progressive ageinq of our conqrqation. The Cults Kirk Centre is eleven years old but rernains in excellent condition and the buildings at our Sanrtuary site and at the Manse are also in sound condition. Both of the former sites are extrernelv important to the on8oin8 church and cornmunity activities and are subjert to a condition based rolling programrne of maintenance and repair. All of our buildings will require a continuous commitment and 24active property mana8ement In ordef to maintain and improve the overall facilities to offer expansion of new opportunities for all ages. The financing of fabric repairs and rnaintenance costs continue5 to be challenging and there is the need to consider potentially significant annual increase5 over the next few years in the maintenance of the properties at all our sites and in particular the Kirk Centre as it ages. We are also conscious of the necessity to f+nance upqrade pro8rarnrnes in the new to medium term for our older M$ •t the Sanctuary site in order to maintsin them in such a condition as to continue to attract community and ¢hur¢h 8roups. The church rernain5 in • 50und financial poSitn and is able to meet all its immedlate and medlum term commitments. The Trustees are aware that from late 2023. limitations on the extent to which the Kirk Centre is able to operate on a more cornmercial basis resulting frorn tax considerations, have timed out leading to potential opportunities for improving our financial model. Durin8 the year we have continued to operate our buildings and activities on risk assessed bases, carrying out and updating Risk Management assessments in relation to fife risks. and individual activities by church and community groups using our premises.
Resem5 Pollcy At 31 December 2024 £387,917 wds held in unrestricted funds. of which £47.963 belonged to Church or8anisations. Of the £339,954 remainin& £I(m).( is designated for Fabrbc purposes and the balance of £239,954. represents over nine months of the Church's 2024 expenditures. However, in future years normal expenditure is expected to be maintained at a high level with the addition of extraordinary fabric repairs and maintenance expenditure of over £20.CW in 2025. As a result of extraordinary fabric repairs and rnaintenance and higher energy costs there will be a significant reduction in the level of both the fabric ftsnd and the general re*r¥es. In addition, £1,601 was held in endowment fund5 and £3.318 Is held In restrirted funds for the purposes of theGrant Family Fund. Strurture, Governance and Management Th• Church is • Scottish r•8lst•r•d ¢h•rity, numb•r SC017517 and is •dminist•r•d in •ccord•nc• with the terms of the Deed of Constitution {Unitsry Fonnl and is subject to the Acts and Regulations of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Members of the Kirk Session are the charity trustees. The 1 Se5510D member5 are the elders of the Church and •rechosen from those membersofthe Chur¢h who•re ¢onsid•red to h•ve th• •pproprl•t• gifts and skllls. The Klrk Session meets in general five times a year and in addition to Property and Flnance committees, has five themed teams comprising elders and members of the congregation to support the areas of 'Worship & Faith Journey, Justice & Peace, Pastoral Care & Fellowship,, 'Outreach'. and Young People,. These teams and committee5 all report to the Kirk Se55ion.
