We enleied 2024 believing that our linkage with Sl Leonard's had ended on 315l Deceniber 2023 and thai we
were then in Guardianship and needed lo find a Locurn. We were delighted Ihat
continue lo guide us as our Interim hAoderator. and we had good conlinuily in our Piiliiil C,,,
stayed wrth us until the end of August. Thereafter we were really graleful lo
agreed lo return as our Pulpit Supply until the end ol the year. However, il Iranspirvu I

required a Congregational vole Ihal approved Si John's going inlo Guardianship In October the Congregation
voted unanirnously lo accept the 8asis of Guardianship prepared with

Presbylery had lo approve this decision, and the Kirk was very fortunate I

Achlev•mont# and P•rfomianc•
In March 2024 the Trust for Sl John's began lo employ a profèssional Fundraiser,
10 sUPPOrt
Ihe considerab18 task of raising the £2.3M funds lo carry out the essential repairs to ni¢l
Iiilding Safe.
Wind and Walertighl. 11 wa5 agreed lo lille the project"Falth In Our Futur•. Prot•ctlng Our Past".
To maintain the momelllum of the project, Session agreed lo make a further £250.000 of our resource5
available for the fundraising and prtspar810ry SLifv8y work required.
A Business Plar) for the Kirk was prepared and Ihls lormgd the basis ol the Expressions ol Interest IEOII
applications lo Iwo key funders, Historic Environm8nl Scotland IHESI and the National Lottery Heritage Fund
INLHFI. 80th thesg EOI Applications were successful. and Sl John'5 was invited lo submit full applications lo
both HES and NLHF. Work on preparing these Full Applications could not proceed wilhoul the apryoval of the
owners ol the building. the General Trustees of Ihe Church of Scotland IGTsl. In October, Ihe GTS asked lo
mèal wllh Ihe Tnjsl. Kirk Session and Pr8sbylery lo discuss what was proposed, and just before Christmas
the GTS gave Ih8ir approval lo proceed with lundraising. Th15 therèfore is a primary iask fof Sl John's going
into 2025.
Once again. the movement of funds in 2024 were not typic81 due lo the efforis lo safeguard tho b￿ldIng. Thls
continues lo make the comparison betsveen years mora difficult. The Retention from the 2023 work on the
spire1£7,0291 fell due in 2024. the rsecessary svrvey work lo 18ke ihe Project lo RIBA Stage 2. an¢ the cost5
Involved in preparing funding applications were all necessary expendiluie and incurred a lurther £29,674 01
expenditure in 2024. Together. Iheso contribut8d £36,703 to the overall loss of £59,304
The Kirk Session continues lo strive lo balance Its responsibility lo deliver bolh ils Chrisban Mission 85
envisaged by the Presbylory Mission Plan and the responsibility Il has also been given by the Church ol
Scotland lo keep the building sale. wind and walertighl. Consequently, Session will conlinue in 2025 to make
rts own resources available for both Mission and urgent repairs. Sl John's Is one ol the three City Centre
Churches with Sl Mallhews and the North Church which are required by tho Presbytery Plan to work together
lo prepare 8 City Centre Mission Plan. This is an ongoing task. which the 3 churches are working on tC￿ether.
11 is pleasing to report that the opening of the new Perth Museum in the spring of 2024 resulted In a 100.
Increase in the number of Visitors compared to the previous year.

Financlal Rèview
Results for the year ended 31 December 2024 are given in the Slalemenl of Financial Activities on page 8.
The assets and liabilities are given in the Balance Sheet on page 9.
These financial slalemenls should be read in conjunction with the accounting policies and related notes which
appear on pages 12 10 18. The financial slalemenls have been prepared in accordanee with the relevant law,
regulations. SORP 2019. The Charities and Trustee Investment Iscollandl Act 2005 and Charities Accounts
(Scollandl Regulations 2006 las amended).
The financial statements consolidalo the financial posrtion of all funds lo which the congregation has
enlillement.
The Trustees. whilst noting that measures have been taken lo reduce and control costs relating lo healing
Ikepl lo a minimum in line with guidance on maintaining the fabric of the buildingl and lighting. remain
concerned about ongoing increases in other operational costs. The regular donations from the Congregation
via Standing Orders held up remarkably well, loi which the Session is very grateful. The inlroduclion of a
donations button on the website and ol an online portal lor donations in the Kirk Ilhe Goodboxl have been a
helpful development and will be ol even greater benèfit as visitor numbers grow in future.
In summary, with rogard lo the combination of Reslricled. Designated and Unreslricled Funds total income
resources amounted lo £112.880 12023 £207,055). Total resources expended amountèd lo £173,67612023
£461,644> resulting in a nel deficit of £60,796,1£29,674 of which was work in relalion lo spire resloralion) in
comparison lo the 2023 deficil1£254.5891. when the bulk of the deficit was spire rgsloralion.
Inve•tmont Pollcy and Performanc•
The Investments are managed by Ralhbone Investment Limited. George House. 50 George Square, Glasgow.
G2 1 EH and are held in a nominee account.
Rlsk Management
The Trustees have overall responsibilily for systems procedure and control of the charity. Such systems can
provide reasonablo, bul not absolute assurance against errors and fraud. Within this framewofk, the Trustees
have assessed the major risks lo which the charity is exposed and they are satisfied that systems are in place
to miligale the exposure lo major risks.
The possibility of a lack of office-bearers remains a threat in the lulure.
The congregation is an ageing
congregation and this is also a threat. The Session has. with the help of our Fundraiser. developed a Business
Plan for Sl John's for Ihe period 2025 - 2030. which centers around five strategic areas. W ATCH.. Worship,
Arts and Culture, Tourism, Community, and Heritage. Delivery of the Business Plan includes plans to appoint
a full-time Operations Manager in 2026 to support our current Structure.
Res•nies pollcy
Delails ol the reserves of the charity al 31 December 2024 are sel out al note 14 of the financial slalemenls.
The Trustees are mindful that they are responsible for a Grade A listed building antj therefore feel justified in
rètaining extra funds in reserve lo accommodate any exlra and unexpected fabric costs which may ernerge.
Structure, Governanc8, and Managemont
The congregation is a registered charity, number SC017132 and is administered with the lerms of the Deed of
Conslilulion (Unitary Forml and is subject lo the Acts and General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
Members of the Kirk Session are the charity Trustees The Kirk Session members are the elders of the church
8nd are chosen from those members of the church who are considered lo have appropriate gifts and skills. The
Minister, who Is a member of the Kirk Session. Is elected by the congregation and inducted by the Presbytery.

Basls of preparation
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. 5taternent of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with ihe Financial Reporting
Standards applicable In the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS1021 effective l January 2019. the Charities and Trustee
Inve5tment1Scotlandl Act 2005 and the Charities Accounls Iscoilandl Regulaiion$ 2006 las amended).

Funds are classified a5 either restricted. designated or unrestricted funds, defined as follows..
Restricted funds are funds subject to specific requirements as to their use. which may be declared by the donor or with
their authority or created through le8al processes. but still within the wider object5 of the charity.
Unrestricted funds are expendable ai the discreiion of the Trustees in furtherance ol the objects of the £￿￿rIty. If part5
of the unrestricted funds are earmarked at the discretion of the trustee5 for a particular purpose, they are deslgllated as
a Separate fund. Thi5 designation has an adrninistrative purpose only and does not legally restrict ihe trustees. discretic

Income is recognised when ihe charty has the entitlement to funds. any performance conditions attached tr) the item ol
income has been met. it Is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliablv.

event that a donation is subject to condittons that require a level of performance before the charity Is efititled to the
funds, the Incorne 15 deferred and not recognised until either those conditions are fully met. or the fulfilment of those
conditions is wholly wiihin the control of the charity and il IS Pfobable that those conditions will be f￿lfilled In the
reporting period.
Legacy gifts are reco8nised on a case by case b3si5 following confirmation when the admini5trator/exe¢utor for the
estate ha5 communicated In writing both the amount and settlement date. In the event that the gift is in the form of an
sset other than cash or a financial asset traded on 3 recognised stock exchange. r￿QgnItIon is subject to the valve of
the gift bein8 reliably measurable with a degree of reasonable accuracy and the title to the 355et having been
transferred to the charity.

which are considered material in relation to rhe chariirfs accounts.
Tanglble fixed as5et5
The charity has the right to occupy and use for its charitable objerts certain iangible fixed asset5, which now are lirnited
to the Kirk following sale of the Manse. Title of the Kirk Is vested tn the Church of Scoilènd General Trustees. No
consideration is payable lor the use ol this asset. Expendrture Incurred on the repair and maintenance of this assei is
char8ed as resources expended in the statement of financial auivities in the period in which the liability arises.
Investments
The Income from our share of the sale of the Manse was £248.287 and this was lodged with the Church of scotland
Investors Trust. £40.Oc￿l was subsequently uplified from this account foi Church Expenses, reducing the current value to
£208,287.
Fixed asset investments are stated at market value at the balance sheet dale. Unrealised gain5 and losses represent the
difference between the market Value at the beginning and end of the financial year or, il purchased in the year, the
difference between cost and markei value ai the end of the year. Realised gains and losses represent rhe difference
between the proceed5 on disposal and the market value at the stan of the year or c05t If purchased in the year.
Taxation
St John's Kirk of Perth (Church of Scotlandl is recognised as a charity for the pvip05e5 01 applicable taxation legislation
and is not. therefore, subject io taxation on its charitable activitie5. The charity is noi re8lStered for VAT and resources
exoended therefore include irrecoverable inDUt VAT.

Heritage fund
This has been established following a Successful Stewardship Campaign held in 2019 and
fter eonsultation with Presbytery and the Stewardship and Finance department of the
Church of Scotlènd. St John'5 Kirk of Perth is a building ol historical significance and the
purpose ol the fund is to provide financial resources to help meet the cost5 01 maintaining
and improvin8 the Heritage of the Kirk. All transactions are restricted.
Fellowship Club fund
Have a social and fundraisin8 purpose.
The bank account was closed and tash in hand of £536 15 in abeyance until future of fund is
decided.
