The Sibbald Trust supports work, activities or matters that would not necessarily have had funding from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. The Trustees liaise with Garden management in assessing grant applications, but maintain independence of thought and deed.

Objectives: (one) To promote and encourage financially or otherwise the furtherance of Research and education in any sphere relating to the work of the Botanic Garden. (Two) To promote and encourage financially or otherwise the writing or publicatjion of works on Botany or Horticulture. (Three) To make grants and otherwise subsidise the cost for competent persons to travel and collect plans for the Botanic Garden. (Four) To promote and encourage the fulfilment of any special requests that may be indicated or provided under the terms of any gifts or legacies received by the Trustees provided that the same shall be consistant with the general charitable purposes of the Trust.
