REPORT OF THE GOVERNORS
The founding document of the Trust Is The C.K_ Marr Educational Trust Scheme 1981, Ststtstory Instrument No 857 IS881 of
1981.
The Govemors. as al 30° April 2026, are listed on page 1. Craig Mackay and Philip Saxton served as Govemois unb"118VI
May 2025 and 3151 May 2025 respectively. William Grant and Kenneth Bell were appointed in I￿r pla￿S on 26° June 2025.
Lyndsay McRoberts served 8$ 8 Governor until 31* July 2026. Scott Mulholland was app(xnled in her place on 6° January
2026.
None of the Govemors receive any remuneration from the Trust. Tfavel expensès are paid lo the ap￿InteeS of the
UniversitEs gf Edinburgh. G5asgow. and St Andiews when they attend meetings, if claimed.
The benefits of the Trust a￿ available only lo persons resident within the area of benefit defined in Clause 2(11 of the Trnjsl
Scheme, namely the former Burgh ol Tro¢n including Loans Village and Southwoods.
In terms of Clause 3111 of the Trust Scheme, the Goveming Body of Ttvstees is constituted as a Boty C¢rFrf)rate wth
perpetual succession and a Common Seal and with all the rights. powers and privileges ol a Body corp￿te. The objective
of the Govemiro Body is the edui*lional advancement of persons resident within the area of benefft.
The only regular SOUTCeS ol income lo the Trust are the rental received in respect ol the MaTh College Playing Fields and the
dividends, inte￿st, etc collected on the investment portrolio and bank accounts. Oonations are receNed ocGasionally.
The frxpendrture of Trust on bursaries, scholarships and other grants remains at a laidy constant level from year lo year.
The Slalutory Instrurnenl has specffic rule5 Oll the use of the income and permits any uNexppnded bala￿ of income to be
carried forward to tre following financial year or lo be added to the capital of the Trust. Tr Gaptsl of the Trust is held for
use on specific educational projects and is not 8vai18ble for routine bu￿aries, scholarships and other grants which are
nomially covered by the amual income oflhe Trust.
The invèstmént pDrtfdio is kept under reV￿W by Rathbones Gioup plc, Slo¢kbrokers, Glasgow in successon to Investe
Wealth & Investment UK, lollowing a lakeoverollhe latter. An Investment Managertrom that Company attends the meetirvJs
of the Finance Cornmittee at least Ihrice yearfy. The policy is to seek a balance ot gn>wth belween income and capital.
The Finan￿ Commrttee takes investment decisions after taking advice from the stcK*brokers. at the Ihrice-yearfy
meth"ngs. at three other separate meetings and also beiween Mee￿ng$, when necessary.
For many years, thè Govemors provided operational funding forthe Marr Educational Resources Centre whih wa5 attached
to the public library belonging ￿ South Ayrshire Counol in Soulh Beach, Tioon. The Centre was dosed by South Ayrshire
Council in May 2025 & the final payment by the Twsl was made during Ihe finan¢i81 year ènding on 30. April 2025.
Discussions are ongoing Wlth South Ayrshire Council about the future Provision of Educational Rèsources and the
appropriate l•vel of fulure financ4al support.
The Trust has eonb.nuèd to èncouraga postgraduate study and research by providing substantial grants to p)slgraduate
scholars. The Trust ha5 provided bursaries- mainly of £600 each- to hundreds of students from Troon engaged in tertiary
education al University oi Ctrllege level. The Trust has also encwraged the staff of Matr coll￿ and thè local primary
schools to organise and undertake travel excursions of an educational nature, both within the United Kingdom and abroad.
A number of grants are made for educational travel by indi￿ldUS1 slud8nts but there have been fewei s￿h giants or
applicatio￿ therefor Since the ¢owd pandemic. Grants have hisloricAIty been made to assist the education of pers¢ns with
disabilities but no applications for such grants have been approved during the year lo 30. April 2026.
Th& Govemors will continue lo adrninisler both the income and the expenditure ol the Trust in aC￿r￿an￿ ￿th the pracbces
established since 1981. There are no ftjture plan5 or commitments which will have any fflalerial effect uptsn the finan¢ial
KK)slbon ol Ihfy Twst.
The aco)unt5 set oulon pages 410 6 sh(swlhe financial position of the Trust at 30th April 2026 and ils income and expenditure
for the year Ihen ended. These accounts reflect the requirements of applicable ch8nty18w.
No other body is conneded wilh Ihe Trust but the Govemors are also the Trustees of the Sir Alexander Walker
Trust. This 15 a small subsidiary Trust whose accounts are incorporated within the main accounts ol the Marr Trust. The
WalkerTrusl prowKJes bursaries of a relatively sm811 amount to persons engaged in tertiary edu¢alK)n at Untiiersity or c￿lege
level. The Walker Trust does nol have powers to give grants for vocational training or educational Iia¥el. Its funds are too
limrted to allow substantial grants lo be made for poslgraduale research. The funds of the Walker Trust are fully invested in
Stc¢k Exchange investments. There are no transactions beNveen the Marr Trust and the Walker Trust. The accoun15 sel

Trust, and are satisfied that systems are in place lo minimise exposure.

The charity Governors are responsiNe for preparing a Iruslees, annual report and ac¢ounts in accordance with applicable
law and Uniled Kingdom AcLounting Standards Iunited ￿'ngdoM Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law appllcable to trusts in Scotland requires the trusts Governors, to prepare accounts for each year which give a true
and fair view of Ihe state of affairs of the trust and of ihe incoming iesources and application of iasources, of Ihe trusl for
that period. In preparing the accounts. the Governors are required lo..

reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularsties.

charity regulator's website. Legislation in the Unrted Kingdom goveming the preparation and dissemination of accounts

has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus, the Govemors
continue to adopt the going concern basis of ac(x)unting in preparing the financial statements.
