Organisation Structure

The Society consists of active members, honorary members and patrons, who may be included as life long members. From the members the Trustees are appointed as noted above.

There are no paid staff members all tasks are carried out by volunteers.

Charitable purposes

The aim of the charity is to interest public members in the dramatic and operatic arts to further the development of public appreciation and taste of the said arts in furtherance of this object:

Activities and achievements

Theatre wise Arbroath Musical Society successfully performed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in February 2025. After a slow start to the week, it culminated with a sell out Saturday Matinee and was well received by all who attended. Unfortunately, we again reported a deficit on the show overall. This is due to further costs incurred by the Theatre over which we had no control, without which we would have broken even. The Society still has sufficient funds to continue with next year’s plan.

Future Plans

We are pleased to announce that in February 2026 we will be presenting Disney's Beauty and the Beast. To try and help minimise losses we will be undertaking some social fund raising events.

Trustee remuneration and expenses

The trustees did not receive any remuneration or expenses during the year.

Report of the Independent Examiner to the Committee of Arbroath Musical Society

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025 which comprise the receipts and payments account, statement of balances and related notes.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.

Independent Examiner’s Statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
