Summary of the main activities The all-voluntary work of the Adventure Sailing Trust continues. in relation to these objects It has generated the support of private trusts for children in greatest need who are living in areas of multiple deprivation. Harsh economic times, has heralded the extra support needed for voluntary groups in the encouragement of their work. The Adventure Sailing Trust, this year, has provided grants to disadvantaged groups in Glasgow, Central Scotland and the Clyde coast, thus helping groups to provide a wide range of opportunities for young people to participate in recreational and sporting activities with the principle activities raising awareness of the benefits and safety of sailing and water sports.
This support has encouraged young people to develop their mastery of skills; increase self-esteem, resilience and social cohesion; and provide a safe space and respite away from social and family pressures.

Achievements and performance
oe
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the financial period = This year (2024 - 2025) has seen a growth in applications and as such we had further opportunities to support groups in line with the Adventure Sailing Trust’s purposes and objectives.
Monies distributed to supported groups and organisations this year have been used to financially support children from isolated and vulnerable families to experience a range of activities. Such as:
-
e Inverclyde based Scout groups were able to provide additional wellbeing sessions for the young people and purchase additional safety equipment for use onboard their boats. "Being out on the water is an excellent way to reduce stress and anxiety, boost morale and make everyone taking part feel good. In addition to these positive impacts on their wellbeing and mental health the Scouts gained new skills, for example boat safety and handling; understanding weather forecasts; how to navigate; respect for other water users and the provisions of the Collision Regulations; the importance of listening to each other and working as a team. These are all skills for life that are transferable to the modern world.”
-
e Monies were used by a Glasgow based group in Parkhead, to provide the young people opportunities to experience a range of watersports at Pinkston Watersports. Activities available included whitewater activities, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking and swimming.
-
e Young people from Govan, in Glasgow, were able to participate in high-quality outdoor recreational and
-
Holiday Club. These opportunities directly supported children’s physical activity, confidence-building and wellbeing. The provision of funding also helped to relieve the effects of financial hardship by removing barriers to participation and ensuring that all activities were free of charge.
-
e We were able to support a sailing club this year from Argyll & Bute with funding for essential safety equipment such as life jackets and some safety boat maintenance thus supporting the continuation of their watersports programme for the young people. We also provided funding for 15 individual memberships with 10 sessions each, thus taking away the financial barrier for these individuals.
-
e Guides from Lanarkshire enjoyed a weekend outdoor camping experience with a wide range of activities in a country environment.
-
e A group from Bridgeton were allocated funding to support 1-2 overnight residentials for the young people. These opportunities incorporated a range of outdoor activities which helped develop and introduce new skills to the participants.
-
e Sea Cadets from Dundee have experienced and enjoyed a range of watersports this year. Young people from all backgrounds (disadvantaged areas, additional needs, and those that are at risk of exclusion) have been catered for. Access to activities has also been provided for children who are deaf and also those with sensory problems. “Again our boating hours have exceeded previous years. Your funding assists our organisation to provide those water borne activities, and | thank your Trust once again.”
This year has extended the commitment of the trustees, to develop the support and the working in partnership with groups and local authority services. This strategy will allow Trustees to _ identify where funding can be used most effectively to develop children’s health and wellbeing by way of outdoor activities, in particular watersports.
Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
Details of any deficit
© The Adventure Sailing Trust recognises that there is a need to carry an appropriate level of reserves to provide a margin of safety in the event of temporary difficulties with funding and to enable our charity to take advantage of development opportunities if presented. The Trustees have discussed and considered that a reserve of £600 would be held for this purpose.
This year has seen a substantial decrease in our deficit from last year. We have a deficit of £163 at the close of our accounting period.
