Charitable Purposes

The objective of Hamilton Operatic and Dramatic Club is to present public performances of music and drama and other related activities, advancing the arts in our local community.

Activities and Achievements — Current Year

Hamilton ODC began its 2024/25 season with the production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in October / November. This was the first time Hamilton ODC had had the opportunity to perform this production.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tells the story of the journey of Joseph, son of Jacob and one of twelve brothers, and his coat of many colours. The production is based on the Bible’s book of Genisis and originated from a cantata

which was written for a school choir. Joseph is a much-loved family classic, written in 1968 and features lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Joseph features iconic pop and musical theatre classics, known around the world such as UK number 1 – Any Dream Will Do, Closed Every Door to Me and Go-Go Joseph. It was a production thoroughly enjoyed by both our cast and our audiences.

Towards the end of November, Hamilton ODC held our annual Awards night. A gala-style evening which allowed our members to honour our long-standing club members with the NODA Long Service presentations. These ranged from members who had completed 10 years with the club, right up to one of our longest serving members who received their 55 year medal. As well as the long service awards, Hamilton ODC also presented the 3 club awards, given for services to the club during the past year as well as the “fun” awards which rounded off an enjoyable evening.

The clubs concert party was once again honoured to be part of Gilmour and Whitehill Church annual ‘Carols by Candlelight’ service at the end of November. This was a resounding success, bringing joy and festive cheer to all who attend

ed. It was a night to remember, filled with music, storytelling, and the true spirit of Christmas.

After Christmas and the New Year, club activities resumed once more, with preparations for our May concert, entitled “A Journey Through Song”. This concert took place over 3 nights at the beginning of the month. This was an energetic production, which saw our members hit the road to both some familiar fields as well as pasture new. Our trip ranged from the misty mountains of Scotland to where the neon lights are bright and there’s magic in the air.

After a well-deserved summer break, cast members returned to rehearsals full of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming production of The Addams Family. Rehearsals for The Addams Family were both demanding and incredibly rewarding. The cast tackled complex harmonies, energetic choreography, and fast-paced scenes with dedication and enthusiasm.

With passionate performers, and continued community support, the club is in a strong position moving forward. We look ahead with excitement and remain

committed to delivering high-quality productions that entertain, inspire, and bring people together in our local community.
