Trustees are recruited in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) of The Scout Association as and when required from existing and new contacts.

Constitution and Charitable Purpose

The Group is an unincorporated recognised Scottish Charity and is governed by the terms detailed in the constitution of The Scout Association, and as detailed in its Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) and as amended by its Scottish Variations. As stated in The Scout Association's POR, the Group's purpose is to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

Activities, Achievements and Performance

Bishopton Scout Group has approximately 120 members and 25 leaders - the sections are 2 Beaver colonies, 2 Cub packs, 2 Scout troops, and an Explorer unit.

In the past year the Group has celebrated it's Centenary. We started off with a Group Camp at Lochgoilhead and a family fun event in September 2024 on the anniversary of the Group starting up. This was followed in October with a celebration dinner dance for 140 past and present members. In March 2025 we had a Fun Day at Lapwing Lodge, and in July 25 we ran a Centenary camp at Bonaly and invited other partner groups from Austria and around Scotland. All sections had varied programmes with many indoor and outdoor activities and camps. In addition to hundreds of badges being presented throughout the sections, we presented 3 Bronze, 13 Silver and 1Gold Chief Scout's Awards. Every member had the opportunity to have some nights away including Beaver sleepovers, Cub and Scout camps at Meggernie Outdoor Centre including winter camps. In May each year the Group runs the National Adventure Camp for Scouts, under the Scottish Headquaters LONE system (locally organised national event). This is a light weight camp for the Scout age group with a wide range of activities. The camp was at Strathallan Castle, Auchterarder this year with 700 participants and 220 staff - it was a great success and we were delighted that Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields joined us in his first visit to Scotland. Within the year The Scout Association has awarded our leaders with 11 Long Service awards, 1 award for Merit and 2 Wood Badges. Sincere thanks to all leaders and other volunteers who regularly give of their time and expertise to enhance the lives of young people within our Scout Group.

Financial Review and Reserves

A deficit for the year of £13,339.09 is detailed in the Receipts and Payments Account. At 31st July 2025 the Group held unrestricted funds of £85,695.96 Other Assets of the Group are included in these accounts at insurance valuation.

Reserves Policy

The Trustees are of the opinion that the Group has sufficient reserves to sustain operations in the event of unforeseen adverse future financial events, and there is no need at this time to designate funds to any specific future events or expenditure. The Group has been extremely fortunate to receive a legacy during the year of £50,000. The Trustees have decided to record this as a separate unrestricted fund until a decision has been made in accordance with the benefactor's Will on how this money will be spent.

Declaration

The Trustees declare that they have approved their report above. Signed on behalf by: rf, 4 / J, fo Andrew Woodrow, Chair 25th January 2026
