ScotWays works to uphold public access in Scotland. It combines 3 main roles: expert authority and adviser on the law of access. custodian and manager of the national resource of information about access routes and rights (CROW), and practical guardian and advocate of public outdoor access, in town and country, across Scotland. We respond to public enquiries both directly and via the Ask Ken knowledgebase on our website and provide a paid service to solicitors and developers to advise them of public rights of way and other access issues affecting land they are dealing with. We contribute to access groupings, including the Scottish Outdoor Access Network (SOAN), the Scottish Outdoor Recreation Alliance (SORA) and the National Access Forum (NAF), and promote public access through books and leaflets and install and maintain route signage. We issue two newsletters every year for our members and have active engagement with followers on social media and a regular e-newsletter, Stravaig.
