||||
|**Type of governing document**
**Trustee recruitment and appointment**|||
||The Choir was first constituted in 1989, and the Constitution has
undergone several amendments since, all duly approved by OSCR. The
most recent amendment was made on 6thApril 2021, reviewed on 21st
May 2024 when it was felt that no changes needed to be made. This
remains our current version; however, the Constitution is currently under
review but not finalised at present.||
||Our Constitution requires that all Trustees are recruited from among Choir
members. Some Trustees may be appointed as ‘Officers’ by the
‘Committee’ and some may hold more than one Office. The Committee
may appoint other Trustees as required and appoint those Trustees as
Officers. The Committee may also appoint sub-committees or Teams, to
fulfil certain tasks, short or long term. Such teams must be taken from
among the Trustees, or members of the choir who have the knowledge or
skills to bring to the task. At the close of the 2025/2026 year, there were 9
Trustees, 2 of whom were ordinary Members without Office.||

|**Objectives and activities**|||
|**Charitable purposes**
**Summary of the main activities**
**in relation to these objects**|||
||The stated objectives of our constitution are to develop and encourage the study,
performance and appreciation of musical works. We aim to provide a safe,
welcoming setting in which our members can share their passion for music, and
develop their own confidence and ability in a group environment. Through
consistent rehearsals, where friendships are built as well as voices, members can
learn the value of developing the team to achieve more than they could
themselves, individually. This all contributes to members’ appreciation, in particular
but not exclusively, of classical choral music.||
||In order to achieve our objectives we: Hire safe premises for weekly rehearsals
between Aug & May; Hire venues and plan concert opportunities, often including
external professionals for soloists, and instrumentalists; Engage well-qualified
musical director and accompanist to lead rehearsals and provide a broad spectrum
of materials and composers; Encourage social interactions through break times
and social evenings, where members help provide refreshments and we invite
people interested in experiencing a rehearsal with us; Produce quality materials,
printed and online, to publicise our rehearsals and concerts, drawing in the wider
public; Give members the opportunity to become committee members and officers
of the choir; Sometimes reduce or waive subscription costs to help those, who may
be strugglingfinancially,toparticipate.||

## **Achievements and performance**

|**Summary of the main achievements of**
**the charity during the financial period**|Our first concert of the financial year 2025-2026 held Re-Hope Church, Paisley, on
18thMay, was**‘A Celebration of Mozart’**, where the performance included the
Divertimento in D major, Ave Verum Corpus, Laudate Dominum, and the Requiem
in D minor. Joining the choir were orchestral students of the Royal Conservatoire
of Scotland, and guest singers Awen Ensemble who sang the solo parts in the
Requiem and presented a selection of their a Capella repertoire. The income for
this concert was £3481 and outgoings £6464. As our final performance of the choir
year, prior to our summer break, this was an outstanding concert, widely
appreciated by performers and audience.
Our**‘Christmas Celebration’**was held in St Mirin’s Cathedral on 14thDecember
with our guests the popular Johnstone Band. Together with the enthusiastic
participation of the audience, on their feet singing favourite carols, there was a
very well-balanced performance of choral and brass band music. Among the old
favourites were some newer carols from the ‘Noel’ series produced by Novello. A
great atmosphere and the usual fun with raffle prizes, made for a very enjoyable
evening. Income for this concert was £4357, and outgoings £2069.
Our**‘Spring Concert’**programme was a mix of choruses from both opera and
musicals. Pieces from Nabucco (G Verdi), Die Zauberflote (W A Mozart), Madame
Butterfly and Aida (G Puccini), Die Fledermaus (J Strauss) together with musicals -
Elton John’s Aida, Carousel (Rogers & Hammerstein) and a medley from Miss
Saigon (Schonberg/Maltby/Boublil arr. Ed Lojeski) delivered a great variety of
music and emotion. Our guest singer, courtesy of the Forson Bursary) was Tenor
Ben Smart, post graduate student at the Royal Conservatoire, who brought us
outstanding performances of The Boatmen’s Dance, Maria from West
Side Story, Shall We Gather At the River, Bring Him Home, from Les Misérables,
and operatic pieces Un’aura Amorosa, Che Gelida Manina, O Blonde Ceres, and
Addio Fiorito Asil. Income from this concert was £1926 and outgoings £994.|

|**Financial review**||
|**Brief statement of the charity’s policy**
**on reserves**
**Details of any deficit**
**Donated facilities and services (if any)**||
||Paisley Philharmonic Choir are aware of the need to ensure that reserves are in
place to manage both fixed costs, such as rehearsal venue hire, remuneration of
Musical Director & Accompanist, storage, insurance, website etc, and costs
associated with planning and producing events. There is an ebb and flow to our
income, with subscriptions being focused from August to year end, but also with
donations and grants when they occur, some of which are restricted to specific
purposes. This has a bearing on our decisions regarding the scope of our events,
and it is important to remember that gifts are given for us tospend on advancing
our objectives, but a balance must be kept between that and undue risk.|
||There was no deficit|
