'the advancement of health'

We are set up to support the health needs of the residents of North Berwick and surrounding area, initially by enhancing the services provided by the Edington Cottage Hospital to In-Patients and through its Minor Injuries Unit. Latterly we support the community through grants to specific health focused organisations and individuals (on request) and through purchasing and donating equipment to the local GP Health Centre and to the Physiotherapy and Vaccination services now based at the Edington.

Objectives: Purpose & Activities 3. The purpose of the Friends shall be the advancement of health of the residents of North Berwick and the surrounding area. In fulfilling this purpose, the Friends shall pursue the following activities: • promoting the welfare of the patients of the Edington Hospital (“the Hospital”). • supporting the staff of the Hospital in delivering quality patient care. • assisting with facilities or equipment to enhance the performance of the Hospital and the patient experience. • providing amenities for patients who are cared for in the community by District or other Nursing Staff or other health professionals. • providing grants to support individuals with specific health needs or who need to travel to obtain expert treatment outside the local area. • campaigning where necessary and appropriate for the provision, retention, improvement or restoration of health services in North Berwick and the surrounding area. and • taking any action which, in the opinion of the Trustees, is incidental or conducive to the above activities of the Trust, including co-operation with other bodies. For the avoidance of doubt, ‘health’ includes physical and mental health, and encompasses chronic as well as acute conditions.
