Trustees, Annual Report Year ended 31 December 2025 Structure, Governance and Management Governlng Document The Church is administered in accordance with the terms of the Deed of Constitution (Unitary Forml. Recrultment and Appointment of Tru8teo8 Members of the Kirk Session and the Congregational Board are the charity trustees. The Kirk Session members are the elders of the church and are chosen from those members of the church who are considered to have the appropriate gifts and skills. The minister, who is 8 member of the Kirk Session, is elected by the congregation and inducted by Presbytery. The Congregation81 Board is appointed from within the congregation and members of the congregatlon are invlted to nomlnate Individuals who are believed to have the ski118 8nd commitment to contribute to the management 8ffairs of the Church, to become member8 of the Board. Board Members are then appointed at the St8ted Annu8l Meeting 8nd serve for a period of three years after which they must seek re-election at th8 next ststed Annual MeetinFI. Org8nl8atlonalStructuro The Kirk Session whlch meets six times a year is respon8ible for splrltual affalrs wlthin the church. Objectlves and Actlvlties The Church of Scotland is Trinitarian in doctrine, Reformed in tradition and Presbyterlan in polity. It exists to glorify God and to workforthe advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. A8 8 national Church. it acknowledges a distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of r8ligion to the people in every parish of Scotland through a territorial ministry. It co-operates with otherchurches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond. Knockando. Elchies & Archiestown Church has a strong'sunday Club" (Sund8ySchooll which attracts young people and families to the church and to learn to love God. There is also a well established group for teenagers, based on the Youth Alpha course. which meets on a Sunday evening. There are regular fellowship and outreach events particularly focused on the Heavenly Pieces and Winter Wamier events which provide food and fellowship for all in the community. and attract non members of the congregation tothe church.
Trustees, Annual Report {cont) Year ended 31 December 2025 Achlevements and Performance The Sunday Club and group for teenagers continued to grow through 2025, including leading services, a summer outing, prizegiving and natiwty play. The Heavenly Pieces and Winter Warmer events provided fellowship and outreach in a social setting. Financial Review The church's principal source of income 18 regular givingthrough weeklyofferings and standing orders, supplemented byannual income from a legacy8dministered bythe HDHWills Trust. Planned giving has remained steady, however. there has been a material uplift in costs during the year- particularly energy costs. This has been reviewed and monltored bythe Kirk Session, notingthat the church has healthyfree cash reserves. The likely increased relianc8 on reserves has been noted by Session. It is noted that in 2024 Income was higher as the HDHWills legacy payment was made twice in error bythe Trust. This not only shows as a variance in income between 2024 and 2025 but should be noted th8t it will be recovered by non-paymentof the bequest in 2026 which will likely have an impact on re8en4e8 in 2026. Re80rve8 Pollcy It Is the Trustees. pollcy to hold reserves of approximately four months expenditure (approximately £10,000) including design8ted funds. At the year end the Church held unrestricted cash funds of £71.463. Thi8 represents about 18 months expenditure and while this is higher th8n would normally be expected the Trustees are considering 8n 8ddition81 building or modifications to the existing church building in order to cater better for the thriving youth activitie8, for which there is very Limited space. and the additional reserves would be puttoward8 this purpose. The members of the Kirk Session must prepare financial statements whlch give sufficient detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Church during the financial year. The members of the Kirk Session are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which. on request, must reflect the financial position of the Church at that time. This must be done to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities and Trustee Investment Iscotiand) Act 2005, the Charitie8 Accounts Iscotiandl Regulations 2006 and the Regulations Anent Congregational Finance approved by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2007. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Church and must take reasonable steps for the prevention andlor detection of fraud and other irregularities. Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Kno¢kand, Elchies & Archiesti I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2024 which are set OL+t on the following pages Respective responsibllltles of trustees and examlner The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotlandl Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10111 Id} of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44111 Icl ofthe Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examlner's statement An examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotlandl Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts. and seeks explanations from tlie trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit. and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. Independent examlner's statement In the course of my examination. no matter has come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements.. to keep accounting records In a¢cord8nce with Section 44 11118) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and to prep8re accounts which accord with the accounting records 8nd comply wlth Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or to which. in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
