Buchanan Parish Church of Scotland Trustees, Annual Report Year ended 31, December 2023 Structure, Governance and Management Governing Document 'rh¢ Church is administered in accordance with the tern]s of the Deed of Constitution (Unitary Forn]). Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees M¢mb¢rs of the Kirk Session are the charity trustees. The Kirk Session members are the elders from those members of the church who are considered to have the appropriate gifts and skills. The minister, who is a memb¢r of the Kirk Session, is elected by the congregation and inducted by Presbytery. Organisational Structure The Kirk Session is chaired by the minister and meets several times in a year. It is responsible for the day-to-day and spiritual affairs within the church. Objectives and Activities The Church of Scotland is Triniiartan in doctrine, Reformed in tradition and PreSb￿erlan in polity. It exists to glorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. As a national Church. ir acknowledges a distinctive Call and duly to bring the ordinances of religion to the people in every parish of Scotland through a territorial ministry. It ¢o-op¢rates with other Churches in various ecum¢nical bodÈes in Scotland and beyond. Financial Review The results for 2023 show running costs are lower than the previous year with an increase in donations. This has resulted tn a surplus of £9:538 (2022.. deficit £17,049). Future Plans In 2024 the Church will close and unite with Drymen under the title Drymen and East Loch Lomond Church. The new united Church will link with Balfron and Fintry.

Buehanan Parish Church of Scotland Trustees, Annual Report (Continued) Year ended 31" December 2023 Reserves Policy The 'l'rustees have adopted, as a minimum. a reserves policy of nine montFLS expenditure which would currently be £13,995 however the charity currently holds unrestricted ¢ash funds of £148,535. This is kept at such a hkgh l¢v¢l in order to keep the Church and th¢ Manse maintained to the highest possible standard and helps in meeting the expenses of the Church and the ¢ongregation. The Church also held £16,582 in designated ￿lldS 8lld £21,222 in restricted funds for the purFX)ses specified in Note 3. Statement of Trustees, Responsibilities The members of the Kirk Session must prepare accounts which give sufficient detsil to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Church during ihe financial year. I'he members of the Kirk Session are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which, on request, must reflecl the financial posilion of the Church at that time. Respective re8ponsibilitA¢s of trustees and examiner The charity's INstee5 are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the tenns of the Charitics and Truslee Investment (Scotland} Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (SCotI£￿d) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(I}(d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state wheiher particular matters haTre come to my attention. Basis of independent examiner's Statement My examination is carried out in accordance Regulation I l of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept bv the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented wilh those records. It also includes consideration of any unus￿1 items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. 'I'he procedures undertaken do not provide ail the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by th¢ accounts. Buchanan Parish Church of Scotland Notes to the accounts for the year ended 31$1 Deeember 2023 Accounting policies Basis of preparatRon The Accounts have been prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards and under the historical cost convention, moditied to reflect the incluston of income and expenditure on a r¢c¢ipts and payments (i.e. cash) basis and investm¢nts al mark¢t valu¢, and in accordance with the Charilies and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, Th¢ Charities Accounls (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended) and the Regulations anent Congregational Finance approved by th¢ (ien¢ral Assembly of th¢ Church of Scotland in 2007. Funds Funds are classified as either Testricted funds or unrestricted funds, defined &s follows: RestYicledfund.s are funds subject to specific requirements as to their use which mas. be declared by the donor or with their authority or created through legal process¢s, but still within the wider objects of the Church. Unres¢ricfedfunds are expendable at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objeLts of the Church. If parts of the unrestricted fund5 are eannarked at the discretion of the tn￿leeS for a particular purpose, they are designaled as a separate fund. I'his designation has an administrative purpose only and does not legally restrict the tru5tees' discretion to apply the ￿nd. Incoming resour¢¢$ All donations and gifts are knclud¢d within r¢c¢ipts under either unrestricted or restricted fLmds according to the tenns under which the donation is made and when the amount can be quantified wÈth reasonable certainty. Donations and gifts in kind are brought into th¢ accounls at their market value to the Church. Investment income is accounted for upon receipt. Legacies are accounted for as receipts upon receipt. Resour¢¢s exp¢nded Expendtture is recognised on a cash basis as payment is made. Tangible fixed assets The Church has the right to o¢¢upy and us¢ for its charitable objects certain tangible fixed ass¢ts, including the Church and mans¢. vested in the Chureh of Scotland General Trust¢¢s. No consideration is payable for the use of these assets. Expenditure incurred on the repair and mainteThanL'e of these assets is charg¢d as resources expended in ihe receipts and payments account in the period in which the liability is paid. All tangible fixed assets costing in excess of £5,000 having a value to the Church greater than one year, other than those acquired for specific purposes, are capitalised. Taxatio Buchanan Parish Church of Scotland is recognised as a Church for the purposes of applicable taxation l¢gislation and is therefore not subject to taxation on its charitable activities. The Church is not registered for VAT and resources expended therefore include irrecoverable input VAT. 2. Trustee remuneration and Related Party Trydnsactions During the year three (2022: three) trustees received reimbursement of expenses incurred lotalling £288 (2022- £100). Furthermore the Minister received £nil (2022.. £453) in respect of Council Tax and £752 {2022.. £779) foi other manse related expenses. All Church of Scotland eongregations contribute to ihe National Stipend Fund which bears the costs of all ministers, stip¢nd8 and employer's contributions for national insurance, pension and housing and loan fund. Minist¢rs' stipends ar¢ paid in a¢¢ordanc¢ with the national stipend scal¢, which is related to years of service. The cost for 2023 was £30,135 (2022: £37,032). No other trustee received any remuneration in the year.
