Governfing Document
The Church is administered ill accordance with the tern)s of the Model Deed of Constitution of the Church of
Séodan
Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees
M¢mb¢rs of the Kirk Session and the Congregational Board are the charity trustees. The Kirk Session members are
the Elders of the church and are chosen from those members of the churth who arc coDsider¢d to have the
appropriate gifts 2nd skills. The Interim Moderator, who is a member of the Kirk Session, is appointed by
P.rGsbytery. The Congregational Board is appointed from within the congregation and members of the congregation
tre invited io nominate individuals who ￿ bclicved to hav¢ th¢ skÈlls and conjmitment to contribute to the
inana8ement affairs of the Church, to becoLnc m¢mb¢rs of th¢ Board. Board Members are then appointed at the
Statcd Annual ML eetillg and serve for a period of three years after which they must seek re-election at the next
Stated Annual Meeting.
Organi5ational Structure
'Th¢ Congregational Board is chaired by the Interim Moderator and nonnally meets six times in a year. The
t.féasurer is assisted by a small finance committee and reports and makes rccommendations at each Board meeting.

ackttowledges a distinctivc call and duty to brin8 the ordinances of religion to the people in every parish of
"Scotland through a territorial ministry. It co-operates with other Churches in v8rious ecumenical bodies in Scotland
and.btyond.

Woisbip Team 2nd Prayer GTOUP with many members of the congregation taking an active part in leading worship.

Since the Autunm of 2024 we have opened the church tivice per month on Friday afternoons as part of an
Open Church Initiative. This allows our community to come into the quietness for Spdce, reflection and
pIayer.
On the 29 September 2024 the church hosted the Kirking of the Council. Distinguished guests included the
Provost and Bishop Toal, who both took part in leading worship.
We were delighted to welcom¢ th¢ Moderator of the Church of Scotland,
on thc 30 Octobor 2024.
In December. we participated in the annual Blue Service foI the bereaved, in conjunction with Potts Funeral
Directors, with other faith communities in the town tak￿8 part. The service thi5 year was h05ted by Sacred
Heart Church and will return to us in 2025.
On the 8 December 2024 the church hosted a C￿lStmaS Family scrvicc for "forerunncIs Scotlmd,"
inter-denorninational Clristian group of Indonesians in Scotland.
On th¢ 19 DeceLnber 2024, a vcry w¢ll att¢nded "Big Sing" was held in the church with the three non-
denominational primary schools in the town taking part.
We EHd our annual Christingle Cgxol Servi¢e for all ag¢s. where around l 00 people gathered at the start of
the Christmas Season with Christmas lunch being available afterwards.

'Young Church.: Young Church is considered to be an integral part of Sunday Morning Services with young
people normally following the Scripture Union "Light" prograrnme for their own age group.
Chureh CboRrlMllsie: Bellshill Central has always been known as a'singing" church and this is aided by the
choir of some 15 members, led by the organist. We have met and prepared services throughout the Christian ye￿.
Highlights of the year were sin8in8 at Hatton L£a Care Home (one of local care homes) on four occasions as part of
our Playlist for Life engagement, singing at Beechwood Care Home for Christmas Carols, and participating in the
North Lanarkshire Council Kirking of the Council Service. We Gontinue to contribute to Church unity in Bellshill
by welcoming singers from Bellshill West Church, now that their own choir is disbanded. They have joined us for
various services, and feel part of the extended B¢llshilL Central Church family.
Since 2020, as part of & weekly check of the organ, the Organist Entertains has been a stsple of life at Bellsliill
Central, aud otheT locations ￿oUnd the world. "The OrgaThLSt Entertains," which grew from a 15-minllt¢ slot iuto
what 15 now at least an hour, sQtn¢times two hours of excellent or8an music. continued throughout 2024. Hymns.
Psalms. voluntaries and other Popul￿ tunes are chosen by the listeners. originally from Bellshill Central
congregation and the loca[ town but now from places as far away as Australi4 South Africa and Canada. Around
400 people tune in each week to watch and listen to 'Th¢ Organist Elltertains." Whilst thcsc cpisod¢5 have become
oie infrcquent, they still very popular. Our Organist EnteTt&uis produces a video at least every 3 months and is
very much appTeciated as part of our online outreach progTamme.

Nalio_llally the Quild has suppotted six major projects and organisation ovcr the past three years. Infomiation on
two of thc8c projects wer¢ shared with the congregation WI￿1 the Guild led Sunday Worship on l DecenLber 2024
and we have donated £50 to each of these two organisations. Sitnilar to previous years. four new projccts will
receiv.e Guild support over th¢ next few years and details of these will be shared with the congregation when the
.Qu.ild.continues to l¢ad Sunday Worship on an annual basis.
Prayer Group: The initiative started for Lent 2020 and has renuined part of our faith activities. The Praycr Group
meets via zi)om most Monday evenings for 30 minutes or thereabouts. The time in prayer is record¢d and uploaded
(gour YouTube channel and is appreciated by couutLess others from as far aficld as Australi& In the absence of
kovi￿ members of the Piayer Group have been greatly involved in leading Sunday Worship; especially prior to the
appointment of our part-time Locum.

.. The main activity under tbe supervision of the Kirk Session by which the congregation cngages with its
local community 1$ throiigh its successful uniforn]ed Guiding organisations - Guides, Browmies and Rainbows.
Girls are not required to attend Bellshill Central Parish Church of Scotland to be members of these organisations.
LeadeIs are also not r￿ul[¢d to be m¢mb¥rs of Bellshill Central Church. This is in accord with the ethos of the
Guiding movement. Nornially appioximately 51 girls from the ages of 4 years to 16 years attend weekly meetings
from September through to June. The Current waiting list is over 23 but units are at ￿pacity with a shortage of
senior children participating in Leadership. The programme of meetings and activities provided is enthusiastically
led and Teceived. All guiding units in Bellshill Central contribute to tbe outreach and engageLnent at BellsliWI
C¢ntraL.
BuwliD
. The congregation also hosts an inforn]al indoor bowling Club during the Mnter months and members of
all sections of the conllnunity ar¢ welcome to attend, This is a thriving Wednesday afternoon club. As part of 'O)Jt
Warm Wednesday initiative in response to the Cost-of-Living CIisis, this Club 15 even more valued by those who
allend.
HAII Let$: The hall was used by a Tae Kwan-Do for the first part of last year. and there are frequ¢nt reqiiests for
birthday parties and to host coffec mornings, ¢t¢ throughout the ye4r. In 2024 wc bc¥an a relationship with Hope
for Autism, through fulldraising events which led to a long-term hall rent for table top activities and Dungeolls and
Dragons sessions.
Uthco Ltd: Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre (ONC) ¢urr¢ntly retains a partnetship with Bellshill Central Pai4sh
Churlh. Two elders from the congregation rernain as Directors of Uthw Ltd. which is the private register￿.

Rcgular b￿8]neSs and activities We￿ slow to pick up following almost two years, closure due to COVID.
Services include the Wee Friendly Group which meet thr¢¢ days per week plus two days for the Men's Group.
Gtoup-befriending for four local sbeltered housing residcnts takes placc w¢¢kly as well as one-to-one Befriending
and regular telephone contact. Musical Memories is provided weekly and is also well attcndcd.
An all-day Café operates providing good, nutritious, ieasonablc meals five days pir w¢ek and is open to anyone. A
Community Fiidge initiative opened in October last year for people in the ML4 postcode ￿ea and this has had
amazing success in such a short time with over 150 members already signed up.
The premises are available for Let to individuals or group3 at r¢asonabl¢ rates. Further details can be obtsined by
cakling the Centre.

along.

eart and Sole: Heart and Sole is the infomial Walking Group set up by the Church in 2019. Short walks ￿OUrtd
tbe ,local area or to th¢ nearby Strathclyde Park are organised on a weekly basis during th¢
',Sp'_riogJSumnLer/Autumn. These are open to everyone. whether or not there is a church coJ)nection. Walking

,Church Chronicle: The Church Magazine is published at least four times a year and made available on a variety of
iiiterriet platfornis and also delivered to church members without internet access. Church news and photos are
Xnclud¢d along with quizzes and items from Local Councillors and teachers from local schools. It is a useful
.m¢thod of maintaining contact with the local community.

with Bellshill West Parish Churches during three Sundays in February. and again during Holy Week, with worship

Th¢.Guild actively participates annually in planning and leading the locally organised World Day of Prayer. The
lervice in 2024 took place in St Andrew's U F Church. The Guild also arrange an annuat Open Night when
niembers of all other churches in the area come along for an evening's entertainment followed by tea. Donations at
this ev¢nt raised £200 for Erskine Veterans. The Guild has, for very many ycars, held a Joint Annual Opening
Coiiununion Service with Bunthcad GuiEd which alternates betwecn the PTemises of the two churches involvcd.
Fund Raising and Soelal Actlvltles: Fund raising plays an important part in financing the activities of B¢115hilE
Centr41 Parish Church of Scotland,. while ￿$0 helping generate a sense of fellowship. Activities during the year
intluded a Burns Lunch, Daffodil Tea, two very popular Clothes Shows, Cheese and Wine, Harvest Lunch and a
chri?.t￿a$ Carol Service followed by Lunch.

'Cbristian Stewardshlp: As the accounts demonstrate the main SOUTce of financial support for Bellshill Central
P.ari.sh'Church of Scotland remains the committed Christian giving of the membership. Members of the
copgregation have been encouraged to change to direct transfer into the bank to maintain WFO. Details of The
Church of Scotland online donate facility and QR code are included in our online magazine, BCPC Chronicle.

Joint services of WOTship have always been appreciated by the eongregation as helping to foster a sense of
Christian unity witl]in Bellshill and it is hoped that thes¢ will again become more regular. Members
r¢8ulaTly assist in the conduct of worship. This include5 the public reading of th¢ Bible. leading prayers, etc.
Many people who had not previously read bible p￿SageS or prayers during Sunday Worship have become
more willing to do so after taking part in online Worship during the 202012021.
This has ¢n¢ouTaged more members to tak¢ an active part in face-to-face worship, llleaning additional
volunteers are now available for Bible Readings at Sunday Services.

Achievements and Performance
The Guild maintains meaningful contact with member5. Bellshill Central continues to offer a waTm
welcome to new members who come along.
Young Church is also very happy to meet new young people.
The Bowling Club continues to bring together people of all ages in the spirit of "A Church Without Walls"
The fabric committee is WOTking their way thiough a check and repair schedule with the propety being
checked on a regular basis. In a recent Presb￿ery Inspection, our propety was classified in Category A.
whcrc 'A' is rctention and 'B' is disposal. This Category was subsequently changed to 'B*:
claTifJcation on that decision is awaited.
Fund raising continues to be carried out in new ways with the congregation being encouraged to be
innovative.
Contact is maintained with local primary schools and they are encouraged to contribute to our Chronicle.
Significant contribution of the organist and the church choir enhancing worship and praise.
The use of the refurbished org&n as a eornmunity asset to raise funds for other ch￿ltieS. Infornation on
"The Organist Entertains" continues to spread worldwide and more locally. The publicity may encourage
more people to attend future fiJndraiser5.
The Facebook and 'X' accounts of Bcllshill Central, and its YouTub¢ chaDn¢l, have grown in th¢iT reacli
and influence.
The WhatsApp Group set up in 2020 to allow church members to keep in touch with each other and
continues to be a lifeline foT more than 60 people.
Raised £1,121 foT local and international charities.
The Guild donated £200 to Erskine Home and £lOO to the Guild's centrally nominated projects.
Heart and Sole ralsed more than £400 which was donated to charities.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
The Presbytery of Forth Valley and Clydesdale
The former Presbyteries of Hamilton, Lanark and Falkirk have now merged into a new larger group.
In 2023, it w&s noted that: the Church of Scotland was PTes¢ntly und¢igoing a nmjor rcview of all churches in
Scotland and each Presbirtery had been asked to prepare a plan for reorganising all of the chuTehes in th¢iT area.
This work is still ongoing.

Financial Review
The detailed financial position of the Church is set out in the attached accounts. Total general income was £57,219
with tot￿ cxpenditt)re £7L,869 producing an excess expenditure of £14,650. Tn addition, deposit intsIest of £587
Was Credited to the Organ Fund. The restrictsd surplu8 for the year was £309.
The church rcmains gratsfjjl to the J & A Potts Legacy for its continuing support. The income generated of £10,343
represents 180/0 of geneTal income. A further £702 was received for specific pu￿Ose$ from illvestsllGllts invested by
the Blackie Family, Corbett Memorial Trust, Sarah Schorn B¢quest and Tom Downs Memorial. The £405 receAved
from the Miss J Blackie Bequest is used for general expenditure.
Reserves Policy
li is the Tn￿tees. policy to hold reserves of at least 6 months, expenditure excluding designated fun&8. At thc year
end, the Church held unrestricted cashfunds of £20,875 of which £34 had been designat¢d for the fabric ￿lld and
£11,832 for the organ fimd. The ren￿illIng balance of £9,009 together with the £19,140 held in the COS Growth
und represents 6 moDth5' expendilmre.
The church also held £3,730 of restricted eath fi￿dS and £33,176 in the COS Growth Fund which have been

Statement of Trustees, Responsibilities
The members of the Kirk Session / Congregational Board must pr¢parc fulancial statements which give sufficient
detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Church during the financial year. The membeLE of the
Kirk Session I Congregational Board are responsible for keeping proper accounting records wbicb, on rcquest, must
refleLL the finan¢iaI position of thc Church at that titne. This must be done to ensure that the financial staternents
comply with th¢ Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities A￿OUnts (Scotland)
Regulations 2006 and the Regulations Anent Con8regational Finance approved by the General Assembly of the
Church of Scotland in 2007. They are also responsiblc for safeguarding the assets of the Church and must takc
re￿Onable steps for the prevention andlor detection of fraud and other 7rregularities.

Thc charity's trustccs are responsiblc fi)r the preparation of the accounts in accordancc with the tem]s of the
Ch￿itIeS and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 8nd the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.
The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulatton l O(1 ) (d) of the Accounts Regulations doe5
not apply. It is my responsibility to ex8Jnine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act to stalc
whether particul￿ matters have come to my attention.
Basis of indcpclldellt examiner's stat¢￿ellt
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation l L of the Charities Accounts (Scotlalld) Regulations
2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the clwity and a comparison of the
