GAS over the last year. They have guided me through my first year as President with patience
and solid advice. Can I take this opponuniiy also to welcome new members io the council.
who has taken over as Membeiship Secretaryand •WIII. who will be an ordin8iy
member. Past Pfesidents hold a vast reservoir of knowledge on GAS, it's history and how it
functions. l attended my lirst President's lunch in December 2024 and was greatly touched by
the supporl end advice they were willing to Import. It w8s with ore8t $8dness then, that soon
&fter. vle learned ol the passing ol past President.

my pleasure, as current President. to ensure his contribution and ochievemenls within GAS are
remembered.
l am delighted to see Ihal membership has grown this ye8r. This is thanks to our I'i.. 01 '
online purchasing of membership on our website. set up by our la51 Presideiii,

of the Postgraduate dissertation prize. He offered a lascinating presentation into his master'5
research and we are very happy to be sUPPOrting newtaleni within the University ol Glasgow's
archLicoIok>' department. I will look lorward to our next 202512026 with our Vice-Piesidenl,
taking the feins. He has promised something a little diffeient to the norn*l

The Glasgow 850 celebr8tions will also be the focus of our Dalrymple leciure series Ihis ye•r, to
lake place in November 2025. With fallingattendee nurnberslhe Dalrymple committee have
agreed to try a difterenl format Ihis year. Watch this space for more exciting news to follow!

We ran one excursion within Ihe city in 2024. In May we visited Ihe site ol the 1988 Glas8OW
Garden Festival where Investigative work Is ongoing into what has survived to form 8 legac
In lune we made a seltdrive Irip lo Low Parks Museum Hamilton and Y￿reE1Ven a tour of the
Mausoleum.
Our co8ch excuision was to the newly refuTbished Perth Museurn, where omongst other
exhibits, W8 viewed the Stone of Destiny in its new and permanent home. We also visited the
historical Kiik ol St john
Ai the beginning 012025 we ran Iwo excursions within the city. In Febrvary ¥ve walked Ihe
historic81 routc Irom George Square to Glasgow Cothedral. In March we had a guided tour ¢t the
8uirell Collection in Pollok Park.

The good news is publicity about GAS is stronger and bettef thank io GAS Council membe

have people with skills io use new social media piattorms. The new GAS website will also be
ablo to carry communications and publicity bottortoo.

Over ltre past 90 days I since 15 March 20251 the Facebook page received 9.198 views so
possibly an annu81 viewing could touch 30.000? As ever. converting vieweis inio members15 our
concern.
The XJTwittei account is locked to us and will ultimately perish. New plalforms to take on Trrtill be
found and Ideally the council members can use them lo promote aciivities, events and
announcements.

NOTES to Treasurers Report 2024
In the RECEIPTS section the DONATIONS total is considerably greater than the previous years. This is
dup to the very generous Bequest left to the S(Kiety by the late. long served GAS Member.
As to this sections Item titled, GIFT AID. There was again no submi$5ion this year to HMRC re
donation5 by Gift Aid. Thi5 was due to difficulties with the closure of the Societie5 Deposit Aco)unt.
which made It difficult to identify those who continued to support the Gift Aid scheme.
In the PUBLICATIONS section of the PAYMENTS colurnn, the Society rnaintains a quanlity of
Publications and there was no demand for lurther purchases this yeaf,
Also in PAYMENTS. the DONATION of E38158 95 was transferred to the Societies Skipton account. In
MISCELLANEOUS, the sum of f 19829.95 reflect5 the final c105ure of the Deposit account by the
Virgin Bank and the funds transfer to the Societies Current account.
Finally. In the STATEMENT OF BALANCES, the DEPOSIT account Is shown to be closed. There ￿$ no
rea50n given by the bank for th15 closure. other than this type of account was considered to be
obsolete . It Is worth pointing Out that this account contained almost all our Mernbefs StandirT
Orders.
