As governed by our Constitution, the Club provides activities, which further the personal development, cultural education and training of young people and make rural life more attractive to the young members of the community. A Management Committee who are appointed or elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Club administers the Club. The Club is affiliated to the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs, to whom the affiliation fees are payable. The Club can be contacted through: National Secretary Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs Young Farmers Centre Ingliston Edinburgh, EH28 8NE ## **Constitution** ## _**Objectives**_ - To advance the education and training of young people at large in rural issues, agriculture, homecrafts and related subjects - To advance the development of active citizens through development of individuals involvement within their local community and leadership of their Young Farmers group - In the interests of social welfare of young people in rural Scotland, provide and promote the provision of activities for recreation and other leisure time occupations which will improve their conditions of life and will assist in the development of their spiritual and mental capacities and self-reliance and individual responsibility ## _**Membership**_ Membership of the club shall be open to all young people over the age of 14. Membership fees will be determined annually at the Annual General Meeting. Any person failing to pay membership fees to the Club by the end of the financial year shall not be considered a member of the club. ## _**Management**_ The committee of management of the club shall consist of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and 26 representatives from the club. These persons shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting. One third of the membership of any committee of sub-committee shall form a quorum. The chairman of the club shall have a casting vote as well as a deliberate vote at meetings of the committee, subcommittee and at general meetings of the club. Members of the committee shall retire annually at the Annual General Meeting, but the Committee shall have powers to co-opt and appoint should a vacancy occur in the committee during the year. The administration of the club shall be entrusted to the committee. The Annual General Meeting of the club shall be held on the first Monday of March, when a report and statement of accounts for the previous year shall be submitted to the meeting for approval. ## _**Finances**_ A bank account or accounts shall be opened in the same name as the club and the treasurer and either the Chairman or Secretary shall sign all cheques and withdrawal orders. An independent examiner, who shall be a suitably qualified person, shall be appointed at the Annual General Meeting to examine and report on the Club accounts. This person shall be eligible for re-election. No part of the income or property of the organisation may be paid or transferred (directly or indirectly) to the members – either during the organisation's existence or on dissolution – except where this is done in direct furtherance of the organisation's charitable purposes. ## **Achievements and Performances** ## March 2024 We kicked off our year by finishing off Scott and Shona’s year on the 9th while competiting in the Ayrshire Talent Spot competition. We had a great night but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get to West Area. Now onto the 1st club event of the year, our New Members Night at Coylton Activity Centre on the 11th. We had a fun night of playing games with a fabulous turnout of 45 people both existing members and fresh faces. Between the 14th and the 18th, we held a variety of sports “come and try nights” with the aim of encouraging new and existing members to get into sports including football, netball, mixed hockey, and tug of war. All nights were successful, and we had at least 1 team competiting in each sport. Rally practises got underway in a slightly different form on the 21st with a baking practise with at The Coo Shed by kind permission of the . Rally practises for years have been 8 in number and almost identical in agenda. and I decided to switch things up this year by organising focused practises at more appropriate venues. The Coo Shed – Baking practise and flower arranging practise Craig Wilson Ltd (Ayr Market) car park – driving practise Ayr Low Green – field sports practise (Results – SB: , SG: , JB: , JG: ) Dinwoodie Farm – stob chapping, tyre throwing, wheelbarrow race etc Goosehill Farm – final consolidation of most competitions Glenside, East Enoch, and Mid Brockloch Farms – beef, dairy and sheep stock demo practises, respectively. Many thanks to everyone who helped us out by providing a venue and/or expertise in the field. The kingdom of rally was brought back to Ayr on the 23rd with our own chair winning rally queen! ## April 2024 Our club mock auction and valuation in conjunction with Crossroads YF took place at Drumsuie Farm, Drongan by kind permission of the on the 1st. It may have been a horribly wet night but that did not put off the massive 90+ people who attended! This was great practise for the Rally Mock Auction and Valuation on the 9th where our teams of placed 6th and 8th respectively. The 7th brought along our Football and Netball tournament in conjunction with New Cumnock YF. It was held at Queen Margaret Academy and even though the boys got wet outside playing football and the girls almost didn’t get into the hall due to a missed janitor diary entry it was a successful afternoon. Results - Football - 1st: Ayr & New Cumnock Netball - 1st: Kilmaurs, 2nd: Avondale A, 3rd: Ayr This event was great practise for both of our teams but the netball team in particular as the girls went on to place 2nd in the rally competition on the 21st with only 1 goal difference between them and the winners, Kilmaurs. Our clay pigeon shooting practise back in February was proven to be worth it on the 14th of the month as took 3rd placè at the rally competition up at North Ayrshirè Shooting Ground, Blackstone, Dalry. Next on the calendar was our Mixed Hockey Tournament in conjunction with Mauchline YF on the 22nd. It was a great evening at Doonside Pitches with a good turnout of 5 teams. Well, done to Mauchline for taking the top spot. Bragging rights must also go to Ayr B taking 2nd place over Ayr A (the rally team) who took 3rd. Beith Show was this year's venue for the Rally Dairy Calf Show and for the Ayrshire Tug of War eliminations. We had a massive 13 calf increase in entries for our club this year, this is something we are so proud of. Well, done for placing 1st in her class and 3rd overall in the AOB section, to for placing 3rd in hi5 class and to for placing 2nd in her class and 5th overall B&W. Both of our tug of vlar teams put in a solid effort on the day a150 Wlth the boys I placing 4th and the girls rriel placing 3rd. Unfortunately, neither teams qualified for the West Area stage at Gargunnock Show. To finish off the month some of our members went to Marr College to compete in the Rally Cross Country, Long Jump and Mixèd Hockey competitions. Ma First up in May for us was Ayr Show on the Ilth. We had members representing us in several competrtions including tug of war, handicrafts and stockjudging. Our boys tug of war team didn't placè in the compètition but didn't go out without a fight. Our 3 stockjudging teams unfortunately didn't place. On a more positwe note, both our handicrafts, teams did brilliantly with the junior handicrafts team placing 3rd and our senior team placing 1st. The 18th was Rally Day which is one of the biggest days of the year and yet again it did not disappoint. Wè may not have lifted the trophy that we so desperately want but we placed 3rd overall and increased our total points by 100 on last yearl A massive well done to everyone who competed andlor placed in any competition throughout the dayl A few honourable mentions include for ivinning the Polquhairn trophy for overall for placing 1st In the telel)andler, for placing 1st in the sheaf toss and for placing 1st in the stob chapping. Next up was our spring dance which i.lras neon themèd. This event took place at Maybole Town Hall on the 24th. We had a great turnout with our own DJ skills keeping us well entertained throughout the nightl The following day w35 Kirkmichael Gala. Sirnilarly to135t year we helped on the bar for this event whi¢h was a hit with several of our members and the local community. To finish off May some of our members competed in the AK Stoddarts competition which goes towards Rally 2025. This competition involvès both a livé and dead judging of cattle, some of which arè suckled calves from Rally 2024. We had a wonderful day earning some valuable points. Well, done to everyone vlho competed with special congratulations to for 1st overall bullock and￿ for4th overall hèifer both in the live competition and to for 2nd overall bullock and￿ Thom for 2nd overall heifer in the dead competition. June 2024 Straiton Show was our 1st stop in June on the 8th where we held our annual stall. We had several fun games to keep visitors entertained and scout for future members. Thank you to the show committee for the space for our stand, to some of our committee for helping on the Stand and to for providing the tractor for the "guess the number of balloons in the tractorf game. Up next i*Jas our annual car treasure hunt on the 16th. Thank you to this year's creators The hunt started at Carrick Academy and ended at Goosehill vJher& there iwjere refreshments and a raffla, thank you to the for providing the venue. We had a great turnout of 26 cars all of which made it backl Well, done to Lizzie's team for placing 1st, The Sloans for placing 2nd and Sisters & Misters for placing 3rd. Now to the highlight of the summer for most young farmers, the Royal Highland Show. Some of our members didn't go to the show strictly to socialise, competed in the shearing competition. Massive wèll done to David for achieving 4th in the Intermediate class. Our treasurer didn't have Saturday morning to recover from Friday nights fun as he competed in the stockmanship competition. Our handicrsfts teams did us proud yet again with both teams placing 4th in their respective competitions. also received special prizes for a perfect score in each of their items. Jul 2024 Sunday 7th was a lovely day for a stroll and that's exactly what we did l Our open dog walk was a hit with 9 people and 10 dogs attending. The world "stroll. wasn't the correct term though as the walk in fact ended up being 8.2 miles long and took nearly 4 hours (including lunch stopl starting at Kyle Academy heading in the direction of Auchincruive and The Bothy Café following the same route back. Dalryrnple show was the 13th and was rnuch the same as Stratton with the addition of u5 helping in the show bar for the duration. Thank you to the show committee for giving us the stand space again and to the members of our committee who helped on our stand and behind thè bar. We took our stall along to Myrèmill Farm, Maybolè on thè 20th to the First Milk's Règénèrativè Farming Show to spread the word about our club. We took along some club merch as well as an information leaflet and a couple of activities. The stall was well received, and we thank First Milk for the OPF)Ortunity to come along to their event. On the 30th of the month wa took to the slopes of Ravenscroft for our slip'n'slide night, thanks to the Purdie family. We had a great turnout of 30 members, all of which had a fun time getting soaked and covered in bubblesl ust 2024 We held our annual beef cattle dressing in conjunction with Kilmaurs YFC on the Ilth at Knocknaib Farm by kind permission of the￿ll. We have 5 teams between the 2 clubs all of which did a lovelyjob of makingthe calves look show readyl Shona Stevenson was our coach and judge for the second year running, we aro grateful to her for giving up her time to come along and help us. Results- 1st- ie Next up w35 our New Members Bowling Night on the 14th held at LA Bowl in Ayr. We had a massive turnout of 48 new and existing members. Rèsults- 1st- ISBI, ISBI, ISGI, ISGI, IJGI IIGI 3rd- King Pin e ISBI, ISGI We finished of our tour round local shows with Coylton on the 17th. Similar games were takan and thankfully everyone managed to avoid the sporadic showersl The 22nd brought back a competition which has been lost in the last few years in the club, speechmaking. Our"Have your say night" brought out the hidden talent of sevèral of our members. Thank you to at The Coo Shed for providing the venue and to Scott Anderson and Fiona Cuthbertson for coming along to give us some pointersl Results- 1st- ISBI, ISBI, ISGI. ISGI, ISGI, IJGI ISBI. IJBI Our exchange away leg with Curragh YF in Northern Ireland was a blast from the 23rd-25th. The action-packed weekend included BBQ and get together, The Lake Kilrea, Belfast visits and Donaghadee YFC BBQ among many other activities. Our 1st Open Dairy Stockjudging in many years was massively successful with attendance of 300+ people and a profit of almost £4,000. A massive thank you to the Dunlop family for providing our venue, Raithhill, to Quest Farm Supplies for donating the burgers and to Genus ABS, ElectroMech Agri, Glasson Grain Ltd and B&G Mole Patrol for sponsoring the prizes! ## September 2024 Some of our members went to The Garage, Kilmarnock to compete in the Ayrshire Bowling competition. Unfortunately, our team did not place, however, junior member Imogen Purdie won Queen Pin. Our 1st event of the month was on the 6th and was our Beef and Sheep Stockjudging in conjunction with Mauchline YF at Dykes Farm, Auchinleck by kind permission of the . We had a great night with a turnout from both clubs. Results – 1st – (SB), (SG), (JB), (JG) 2nd – (SB), (SG), (JB), (JG) 3rd – (SB), (SG), (JB), (JG) and , and competed in the Ayrshire Beef Cattle Dressing competition at Ayr Market on the 7th. Well done to for placing 3rd in the Senior competition. Our charity All Star Mr & Mrs night with auction following was a massive success. We were raising money for both FarmStrong Scotland and Beautiful Inside and Out. Each charity received £2850, which was a 50% share of the profits plus a donation from the club to round the number. A massive thank you must go to our contestants, . A massive thank you must also go to our host, , our auctioneer, , our , our caterer, , and our venue Craig Wilson Ltd – Ayr Market. Results – 1st – 2nd – 3rd – and competed in the Ayrshire Country Cooks Competiton on the 19th at Kilmarnock college. Next up was our Roots and Industrial competition which was held on the 19th of the month at The Coo Shed by kind permission of the . Thank you to our judges for the evening Results – Roots: 1st – Industrial: 1st – 2nd – 2nd – 3rd – Dunlop 3rd – Our annual Fish & Chip Quiz was at Ayr Rugby Football Club on the 27th. Thank you to our quiz masters and Dinos for our dinner! Results – 1st – Still Game 2nd – Yuille 3rd – 10 folk and still no idea! Dairy Cattle Dressing was next held at East Enoch by kind permission of the on the 27th. Our capable judge did a fantastic job and gave us some valuable feedback. Results- Seniors.. 1st- Juniors.. 1st- 2nd- October 2024 Both￿ and I competed in Ayrshire Mr& Miss on the 5th. We had a fun night ofchatting and consuming a few drinks with all the other competitors. Very well dona to for placing 3rd in the Miss section of the competition. Next up wa5 bale art building which took place on the 6th at Lyonston Farm on the edge of the A77 Maybole Bypass. A few members had a great, although slightly cold and damp, morning building our centipgde with the words "moving forward together step by step, lets keep talking. in support of RSABI'S Keep Talking campaign. Ayrshire quiz was the 8th and was a successful night for us with our A team I placing a close 2nd and progressing to West for the second time as a team. Ayrshire Roots. Industrial & Foursomes was the 13th of the month and despite the unlucky number was a lucky competition for our clubl We picked up 3rd overall large club, 2nd in the foursornes and placed 2nd and 3rd in the roots section and￿ placed 2nd and￿ joint 3rd in the industrial section as Lkne.l as many other prizes in individual £lasses1 We held a surprise meeting at Thè Coo Shed on thè 14th. The meeting was all aboLrt wellbèing with our guest speaker running a mental health workshop with a talk and then discussion that was informative for all who attended. This year Heather and I havè brought back prime lamb dressing to the syllabus after an absence of 10 yearsl Wè ran this event in conjunction with AyrshTre givTng the entire district the option of trying out at a dying competition! Thank you to our host and judge for use of his lambs and for the benefit of his experience. Results- 1st Ayrshire Dairy Cattle Dressing and National Beef Cattle Dressing were the Saturday and Sunday of that week. We didn't have much success in the way of placements however, all the teams we put fonmard to thes8 events enjoyed themselves and came away better than they went after some helpful ¢onstru¢tive ¢omments from the judges. On Friday 25th 14 of our members met up with Stranraer & Rhins YF at Stranraer ice rink for some fun curlingl Wè had a great night getting to know some of the members from another club in the West Region and despite their being a fèw bruisès at the end, everyone had a great night trying to lèarn a nèw skill l Thanks to curling captain, his brothe as well as some S&R members for trying their best to teach us bit about how to playl our Junior Speechmaking is a competition in which we haven't competed at an Ayrsh ire level in 12 years, hoivever this year we changed that by entering 2 teamsl Ayr A-￿ Ayr B The teams did not take horne any prizes hobvever bve are m35sivèly proud of them for taking part in a quite often daunting competition! To finish off the month we had a pumpkin carving night at The Coo Shed, by kind permission of the 15 members came along for a competition to see who has the best carving skillsl A great night was had by all and thank you to ourjudge for the evening￿1 who unintentionallychose his own daughter pumpkin as the winner. ## November 2024 November started off with Heather and I heading to Dunblane for the SAYFC 5 Star Awards as we were both in the final 3, Heather in the Driving Force award and myself in the Rural Ambassador award. Congratulations to Heather as she won the award she was up for. Our concert week followed immediately after. The show “Baltic Bliss and a Crisp World Twist” was on stage on the 6th, 7th, and 8th of the month. The concert was a great success after many months of work with all nights being nearly sold out and great feedback from those who came to see it. Thank you must go to and the rest of the production team once again for making concert week a success! On the 20th competed in West Junior Quiz as part of the Ayrshire Junior team coming 1st in the competition, the team then went on to place 2nd in the National Competition on the 30th. We held a club outing to Flip Out in Glasgow on the 18th. Fourteen members headed along for a fun hour bouncing around. All had a great night. Next up on the calendar was National Lamb Dressing where we had 2 teams competing: . A massive well done to who placed 1st in the junior competition. On the 28th we had our annual trip to The Garage, Kilmarnock for our Go-Karting Competiton. We had a great turnout of 29 people. Results – **----- Start of picture text -----**

## December 2024 December started off with an annual part of our syllabus, helping Carrick Round Table with their Santa’s Sleigh. Two members of the committee attended each night from the 2nd to the 13th of December collecting money and spreading some festive cheer around some of South Ayrshire’s villages. On Monday the 16th our vice chair and assistant secretary organised a festive new members night which was held at The Coo Shed, by kind permission of the . This was very well attended with 49 new and old members present. We had a great night of playing games, winning silly prizes, and getting to know the new group of young people joining the club. The 18th brought a night of advice from an expert. We had come along and talk us through the basics of rearing rally calves and what to do at this stage in the year to make sure we are set when it comes to May. On the 19th and I took some of the junior boys to Silverburn for some ice skating. It was a truly terrifying experience for both of us as some of the fearless boys went flying round the rink at breakneck speeds. Luckily, there were no injuries and more importantly everyone had a blast! On the 23rd g took Carluke by storm winning their Jingle Beat Battle. To finish up the month we started senior speechmaking practises on the 29th. We may have been tight for time between this first practise and the date of the competition but that didn’t stop us being able to have 2 teams ready and raring to compete. ## January 2025 The first event of the month is an almost new feature in the diary with this only being the 2nd year it has been run, Bingo! We held this event at Coylton Bowling Club, a great venue with a bar installed which keeps a certain demographic of the club happy and attending. We had a great turnout of 44 people all of which went home smiling. Next up on the 11th was the charity Dyno Day in conjunction with Crossroads Young Farmers. The competition ran from 10am till 4pm with 54 tractors being put to the test against each other on the Dyno to find the most powerful. The charity supported through this event was RSABI with the sum of £2123.78 being raised. Sunday the 12th was a nerve-racking day for 6 of our senior members as our 2 teams headed to Ayrshire Senior Speechmaking. Ayr Black was made up of (placed 5th) and was made up of myself, (placed 6th). Well done to my fellow Ayr members for putting in such a sterling effort. Next up, some would say, was the best night of the year! The annual Burns Supper, held at Maybole Town Hall on Saturday 25th. A massive thanks must go to our volunteers who recited Tam O Shanter, for doing The Toast to the Lassies, for the reply, for performing the Selkirk for doing the Address to the Haggis. Thanks must also go to Ghuilli Dhu for catering, The Reel Stramash for keeping us entertained and to Carrick Round Table for running the bar. The people who attended all had a great night of dancing and celebrating the life of our great bard Robbie Burns. On Sunday the 26th all headed to Greenacres to compete in Ayrshire Curling. A massive well done to the team as they placed 3rd and made it through the next stage. ## February 2025 Into the final month of our year, we started off with Bubble Football on the 5th at Kilmarnock. We had a great turnout of 24 members with more than half attending being juniors which is a great boost for us as we’ve pushed to increase our young membership this year. We had a great night in to bubbles knocking each other over and occasionally scoring a goal, needless to say there weren’t any defined winners as everyone was too busy messing around. On the 9[th] Heather and I competed in the Ayrshire Member of the Year competition. Massive well done to Heather for winning the competition, if that wasn’t enough, she went on to place 3[rd] at National on the 22[nd] . Next up we had our Panel Night on the 12th at The Coo Shed by kind permission of the . Thank you to our amazing panel members and to our very capable chair . Loads of great questions were asked and we all now more about our panel members interesting backgrounds in Young Farmers! Our exchange home leg with Curragh Young Farmers in Northern Ireland was a long time coming. Organisation between the 2 clubs over matching suitable dates meant that this leg was later than we had hoped. Needless to say, we had a great weekend from the 14th to the 16th with our new found friends doing a number of fun activities including a farm tour at Raithhill Farm, Sundrum by kind permission of the Dunlop family, lunch at The Coo Shed and a pub crawl around Ayr and Prestwick. On the 25th of the month 6 of our junior members headed to Craigie to compete in Ayrshire Debates. Well, done to Ayr White consisting of consisting of for competing with special mention to for being awarded with the Best Junior. To finish off our year we held our annual Dinner Dance at the Brig O Doon Hotel in Ayr. We had an amazing turnout of 95 people. We also had the most awards given out at an Ayr Dinner Dance in approximately 10 years with 20 trophies and 51 certificates being given out on the night. Thank you to our speaker for keeping everyone entertained and a massive well done to all of our prize winners! ## March 2025 The year finally came to an end with our Annual General Meeting being held on Monday 3[rd] March at The Coo Shed. After a fantastic year the club leaders were delighted to report the achievements of the club and its members. The evening proceedings saw a new top team leading the club into I’m sure, another great year. ## **Future Developments** The Club will continue to organise activities, which meet the objectives of the Club. In the coming years we aim to allow the club to continue to go from strength-to-strength. The way this will be undertaken will be two-fold – 1) prolonging the financial future and stability to the club through careful monitoring of cash flows and assets, with both the secretary and treasurer having direct access to monthly bank statements, and 2) continuing to encourage new members to join the club, and ensuring the current membership list is maintained – whilst allowing members to undertake competitions and participate in events at all levels. The club also aims to maintain the number charity events throughout the year and donate to at least one charity annually – which will be done by continuing to have a charity event like the All Star Mr & Mrs held we held in her 2024. ## **Financial Review** The accounts for the year are attached and form part of this report. The income and expenditure account along with the statement of balances for the year ending 28[th] February 2025 disclose a surplus of £4,702 (previous year 2024 – a deficit of £5,127). The accounts have been examined by Ms Sheila Tannock of Stewart Gilmour & Co, Independent examiner and Charted accountant. During the financial year we continued to manage out finances in a way which safeguarded the financial assets of the club. The club continues to be financially sufficient and has adequate resources to continue running for the foreseeable future. The club’s investments continue to be solely in cash – through a Treasurers current account with Bank of Scotland. This is a strategic decision to ensure the club is not exposed to any unnecessary risk – particularly that of alternative investments solutions, such as the stock market. The club continued to support local charities by holding a charity All Star Mr & Mrs competition and auction which raised £5667.86 which with our donation to round up to £5700 meant our 2 charities FarmStrong and Beautiful Inside and Out received £2850 each. We also ran a charity Dyno day in conjunction with Crossroads YF. In aid of RSABI which raised £2164. There were several events which contributed to the profits made this year but a very big contributor was our Open Dairy Stockjudging approximately £3000. We are also now in our 84[th] year meaning our finances look a lot better than the previous year. The anniversary celebrations are over from the previous years and we are currently looking at ways to invest some of the profits made from this years events in order to support a possible 100[th] celebration if applicable.
