The trustees present the annual report and accounts for Old Kilpatrick Bowling Church for the year ended 31 December 2025.

Structure, Governance and Management

The church is administered in accordance with the terms of the Deed of Constitution (or Deed of the Constitution Unitary Form) and is subject to the Acts and Regulations of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees

Members of the Kirk Session are the charity trustees. The Kirk Session Members are the Elders of the Church and are chosen from those members of the Church who are considered to have the appropriate gifts and skills to deal with the spiritual affairs and discipline within the Church and to contribute to the management affairs of the Church.

The Kirk Session meets twelve times a year. The minister, who is a member of the Kirk Session, is elected by the congregation and inducted by Presbytery. Elders are appointed to visit each of the church organisations and they report back to the Kirk Session.

Members of the congregation are invited to join Session teams which are Worship, Pastoral, Finance, Education and Marketing, Property, and Social and Fundraising. Members contribute their skills and commitment in the management of affairs in the Church. The Finance Committee deals with the management of funds while the Property Committee looks after the maintenance of all buildings.

Objectives and Activities

The Church of Scotland is Trinitarian in doctrine, Reformed in tradition and Presbyterian in policy. It exists to glorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. As a national Church it acknowledges a distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion to the people of every parish in Scotland through a territorial ministry. It co-operates with other churches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond.

Service of Worship

Old Kilpatrick Bowling Parish Church has one place of worship and serves the villages of Bowling, Milton and Old Kilpatrick. At least one service has been held every week in Old Kilpatrick Bowling Parish Church at 11.00am

We are most grateful to Rev. Yvonne Smith, who was our Interim Moderator until September 2025 and we now have Rev. Barbara Ann Sweetin as Interim Moderator and to all Ministers, Readers and Elders who have conducted our Services. We are still in a vacancy and await the outcome of the Presbytery Plan for us to enter with Damuir Barclay Church. In October 2025 we entered into a Parish grouping with Dalmuir Barclay Church and will hold joint Services and Session meetings on occasions. A joint Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services were held using each Church.

An open air service is held at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday, led by the Boy’s Brigade. This is supported by the other youth organisations and the wider community.

Youth Activities

The Boys Brigade meets on Monday evenings. They provide a badgework programme for 30 boys fram the age of five upwards. The Captain, lan Stormonth, and the officers have all been trained to Boys Brigade standards. Boys work towards their Queen’s Badge achievement and can follow this with leadership training. The young men are encouraged to realise their potential and look out for one another. The Captain and officers all hold Church of Scotland PVGs.

Social and Fundraising

The main Social and Fundraising events, which involve the congregation, the organisation and the members of the local community are mainly soup and sandwich lunches after the Church service a few times a year, including a Christmas lunch this year at the Glen Lusset. Our Christian Aid Coordinator Kathleen Leitch organised a cream tea for Christian Aid

Achievements and Performance

Special Services at Easter and Remembrance Sunday were held. Communion Services were celebrated on various Sundays throughout the year.

Our Support is still given in Christian Aid, organised by Kathleen Leitch.

The Church contributed to the Presbytery scheme which supports 2 children from poor families in the Holy Land through their education. Also to the Moderators appeal for Milawi.

Our property convener maintains the upkeep of the manse, halls, grounds and the Church. The general décor of the manse is up to date.

Throughout the year there were 12 funerals, no weddings and 1 baptism.

Risk Management

The trustees have reviewed the operational and functional risks to which the Church is exposed and have established procedures to mitigate the identified risks.

Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities

Charity law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which show a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and its financial activities for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Approved by the Trustees and signed on their behalf, 1 March 2026

Reserves Policy

The charity trustees have considered the reserves required and have taken in to account their current and future liabilities. It is the Trustees’ policy to hold reserves of approximately 18 months expenditure including designated funds. Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Old Kilpatrick Bowling Parish Church

| report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2025 which are set out on pages 6 to 10.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently | do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: e to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations,

  2. e to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or

  3. towhich, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
