Girlguiding Dumfries and Galloway County aims to give all girls throughout Dumfries and Galloway the space and opportunities they need to thrive, grow, and become confident young women through fun, friendship, challenge, and adventure.
Across Dumfries and Galloway, Girlguiding is delivered by our volunteers. The six themes of the Girlguiding programme; Know Myself , Express Myself , Be Well , Have Adventures , Take Action , and Skills For My Future , enable our members; Rainbows , ages 4-7, Brownies ages 7-10, Guides ages 10-14 to Rangers ages 14-18, to come together, be true to themselves, grow in confidence, and help their communities.

Thinking Day
In February 2025, members across Girlguiding Dumfries and Galloway held Thinking Day events with a focus on ‘Our Story.’ Girls were encouraged to dive into the past, present, and future of the guiding movement, reflecting on its rich symbolism and values.
International Women’s Day On and around the 8th March, we celebrated International Women's Day. Girls and young women across the county celebrated in their own ways, within their units and individually. Many also proudly earned their Girlguiding International Women's Day 2025 badges to mark the occasion.
Amsterdam - April 2025
In April, a contingent of Brownies and Guides travelled to Amsterdam to take part in Girlguiding Scotland's Wide Gameacross the city.
The group stayed on a traditional Dutch barge and enjoyed an actionpacked trip, taking in some of Amsterdam's famous sights. From tasting delicious chocolate and trying on wooden clogs to exploring the zoo, there was something for everyone. It was a fantastic adventure, and everyone had a wonderful time creating memories that will last a lifetime. Big thanks to contingent Leaders - Linda, Leeanne, Diane and Sophie!
Thistle Award
County Commissioner Libby and Assistant County Commissioner Becci were delighted to attend a special afternoon tea in Castle Douglas in April, where they presented Ranger and Young Leader Caitlin with the Scottish Chief Commissioner's Thistle Award.
Caitlin received the award in recognition of her outstanding dedication to Girlguiding, her kindness, and her commitment to ensuring everyone feels included. Her positive attitude and support for others make her a truly deserving recipient. Congratulations, Caitlin, on this well-earned achievement!
Girlguiding Scotland Celebrates!
Congratulations to four of Girlguiding Dumfries and Galloway’s volunteers who have been recognised and attended the inaugural Girlguiding Scotland Celebrates event at the Sheraton Grand in Edinburgh, in June 2025.

Everyone enjoyed a very special afternoon tea, and a wonderfully inspiring talk from Deputy Chief Guide Sally Kettle. What a treat!
India - July 2025
In July, after two years of fundraising and hard work preparing, a Dumfries and Galloway contingent of Rangers, Young Leaders and Leaders embarked on an unforgettable two-week adventure to India.
The group visited Mumbai, then Pune and the Sangam WAGGGS World Centre, where they took part in the ‘Brave Space’ leadership programme. They also supported local community projects in Pune, in a creche and a girls hostel.
They then travelled through the Golden Triangle, visiting Agra, Jaipur and Delhi, with a memorable sunrise visit to the breathtaking Taj Mahal.
It was an incredible experience for everyone, offering the opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture, language, food, climate, traditions and faiths, while creating lifelong memories and friendships with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from around the world.

Speak Out Champions
Dumfries and Galloway was proud to have two Young Leaders, Caitlin and Elsie, selected as Girlguiding Scotland ‘Speak Out’ Champions.
Working alongside their ‘Speak Out’ peers from across Scotland, they received advocacy training and have championed youth voice. They cocreated the Girls' Manifesto, ‘Scotland: For Girls, By Girls’ which was launched at the Scottish Parliament in August 2025. We are incredibly proud of their commitment to ensuring girls' voices are heard and represented.
Blair Drummond Safari Park Takeover
In September, members from across Dumfries and Galloway joined Girlguiding members from across Scotland for a spectacular two-day takeover of Blair Drummond Safari Park. With thousands of members in uniform, it was an incredible sight to behold, and a reminder of how big our guiding community is.
From getting up close to amazing animals to sharing adventures with friends old and new, the weekend was packed with laughter and unforgettable memories such as Alice the camel causing a traffic jam! We think we were louder than the monkeys and scarier than the lions! Fun times!
Remembrance Sunday
Remembrance Sunday in November saw units return to parading with their units in their local communities to pay respects to the fallen. Always a sombre affair, but the girls were smart, respectful, and did themselves and Girlguiding Dumfries and Galloway proud.
Zootastic Cinema Takeovers
Throughout December, lots of our members across D&G saw special screenings of Zootroplis 2. We had members from all sections; Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders, Leaders, and Trefoils join in. There was a lot of popcorn and ice-cream enjoyed, and all received a sparkly badge. What a brilliant movie! Thanks to all our local independent cinemas for their wonderful hospitality.
