Mabie Farm Park Takeover
In June, nearly 300 members from across the county gathered near
Dumfries for our very first County Sleepover-and what a night it was! We
took over the fantastic Mabie Farm Parl and with the weather on our
side, the fun never stopped.
From meeting the animals and exploring the play areas to singing
around the campfire and enjoying a delicious BBQ tea, there was
something for everyone. The laughter, the excitement, and the sense of
adventure made it a truly unforgettable experience.

Every participant proudly went home with their Mabie Sleepover badge and their Girlguiding Scotland ‘Grow and Explore’ badge, both well-earned through a day full of discovery and joy.

A heartfelt thank you to:

- Our county team for generously subsidizing the event, ensuring it was accessible to all.

- The incredible Mabie ‘task and finish’ group—your hard work and dedication made it all happen!

- Our wonderful hosts at Mabie Farm Park for welcoming us so warmly.

Here’s to many more adventures together!

## We’re off to see the Wizard

50 Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders went to see the Wizard of Oz in Edinburgh. We also visited Girlguiding Scotland Headquarters, where we had a tour, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and visited the shop. For many, this was their first theatre experience - and all had a wonderful time!

## County Banner Project

Our partnership with Creation Mill in Langholm has been very successful. travelled around the county visiting units and giving all young people the chance to get involved with the creation of a new county banner. The young people designed the banner, and got to learn new skills including embroidery, applique, weaving, pom-pom making - which created a unique and beautiful county banner which was unveiled this summer. We are so pleased with it and will always show our banner with pride!

Special shout out to for making us a stand to hang our banner. A vital part of our project!

Remembrance
Remembrance Sunday in November saw units return to parading
with their units in their local communities to pay respects to the
fallen. Always a sombre affair, but the girls were smart, respectful,
and did themselves and Girlguiding Dumfries and Galloway proud.
Our new home in Dumfries
We secured a new home for our County Archives at the Municipal
Chambers. Thanks to Judy and Laura, our wonderful County Archivists,
for their hard work packing up ahead of our premises move. Thanks to
everyone who helped with boxes and furniture
it was very much a
team effort!
Our new space is more visitor friendly
with space for units to visit, explore
and enjoy the archive materials.
It is also a great HQ and meeting space for Girlguiding Dumfries and
Galloway, with Executive meetings and First Response Trainings taking
place there. Watch this space for new County Archive badges that will
be available to all who visit, or who host a visit from the archive.

## Cinema Takeovers - Moana 2

Throughout December, lots of our members across D&G saw special screenings of Disney’s ‘Moana 2.’ We had members from all sections; Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders, Leaders, and Trefoils join in. There was a lot of popcorn and ice-cream enjoyed, and all received a sparkly badge. What a brilliant movie!

Thanks to all our local independent cinemas for their wonderful hospitality.

## Christmas 2024

We rounded off another fantastic year of Guiding across Dumfries and Galloway with Christmas celebrations. These were held in units and our local communities, and included parties, crafting sessions, Christmas fayres, and visits from Santa too. A good time was had by all, and commemorative Christmas 2024 badges were available to order for those who wanted one for their collection.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Girlguiding Dumfries and Galloway Scottish Charity Number SC011629**

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31[st] December 2024 which are set out on the following pages.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement**

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

   - (i) to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

   - (ii) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
